This very nearly was the perfect crime. Had the murderer gotten rid of the Rolex like he did with the rest of Platt's means of identification, the crime would've gone permanently unsolved. All it took was tossing the Rolex 60-70 feet in the opposite direction, and it wouldn't have been found.

This was a good summary, but there is SO much to this case. Originally they never suspected him, but one day they went to talk to him and he wasn't home so they asked a neighbour where he was and that neighbour told the police that they knew him as a different person. They couldn't find the boat originally HOWEVER a police officer not involved in the case who was walking by the board with the boat's name on it remembered where it was docked because he goes fishing there. The anchor was going to be sold off on a car boot sale (after it's sold it's almost impossible to find the new owner) BUT it happen to be one of the items that NEVER SOLD. The list goes on, it was good luck after good luck on this one.
Wow this is a small world, my uncle just told me about this story because hes mates with one of the brixham fishermen who found the body. They did end up selling the anchor for cheap when they could've sold the rolex instead😂
