    I’m 83 & arthritis makes bowing & use of 4th finger difficult but I practice an hour a day & am pleased with every little bit of progress I see. Love your videos!!

    I practice an hour and a half to two hours a day. A typical day I pick a scale going through all the scales from G to f sharp chromatically major and minors. Appegios and different types of bowing. Scales are very useful for improvisation and accompanying singer song writers. As singers are notorious for choosing obscure keys to suit their voice. I also try these scales at different tempi subdividing and triplets. Scales and appegios are not just about intonation but also playing in time with a metronome. Scales and appegios are the building blocks for all music. I spend at least an hour on these. Then play some Irish tunes at slow tempi . when it comes to sessions I will find it easy to play them at the required tempi. I feel with these two things no reading music is required.

    Thank you for the video! Ideally I want to practice for 2-3 hours especially when I have a lot of free time, however I get really tired after an hour😭 so I usually practice for an hour and thirty minutes.

      1,5 hour of intense concentrated practice is much better than 3 hours of routine practice. Focus on the quality. If you're tired after an hour, this might be a good sign.

    I practice 45 min to an hour every day. I am 45, I took lessons for 10 years as a kid and was somewhat competent- I was being forced to learn- but then quit. Didn’t play for 10 years. After 10 years I only fooled around a bit on the violin occasionally for the next 15, then I joined an orchestra. The last session before the pandemic i struggled with the pieces even more than usual and so when it started up again I signed up for private lessons. My teacher is great and I have to relearn certain basic things. My skills are imbalanced. I like this though as it’s really helping. I wouldn’t have even known i was so off without her. My practicing is more focused than as a kid and more motivated, I also enjoy boring exercises now! But I do get tired after about an hour. And so far it’s enough to improve a lot. I never practiced more than an hour as a kid.

    How do you think about paganini? He supposed play the violin for ten hours per day

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe he did... maybe he didn't... and I'm sure he had a very specific way of practicing (see more at www.violinlounge.com/paganini) and made sure he was focussed all the time. Not all of us can focus for so long and get quality practice.

    Hello. Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. I'm an adult student. My kids are grown up so I have a little more time. I usually practice for at least an hour a day. I usually break it up into 2 sessions. The issue I have is that I don't focus on a specific technique the way I should. I get caught up in wanting to learn a certain piece and my technique suffers. I'm going to try to be more focused and specific with goals for each practice session.

    I practice 1/2 an hour on scales, and maybe 1/2 an hour on memorized fiddle tunes and if I'm lucky 1/2 an hour on learning new tunes.

    Ohh... I want to practice minimum 30 minutes every day (on average), I would like to practice minimum 1 hour, for my progress I think 2 would be ideal. This week I practiced 1 hour in total. :( not much energy left after work.
    I am learning since 2 years. edit: im 45 years old and started during covid after watching twoset videos. I always liked violin.

      @@M_SC The point is that if you're not a child or a professional, it's nearly impossible to make music your top priority and organize your life around it. I did watch the video and I understand the rule of thumb of practicing in general (any skill) regularly.

    The idea that I am stuck on is trying to land my pinky on e on the a string I get it about once out of 5.
    I'm measure it by using a tuner. Even when I seem to land my finger in the same spot it does not come out exactly perfect go figure
