    Whenever the charge port on my Kia E-Niro seems to be stuck I press unlock on my remote key and the charge port is unlocked. It always works even in slushy freezing weather....The same should work on the Soul, same electronics, mechanics and software. I have now made 64400 km with my E-Niro and never had a problem. We need to start the “Society for automotive charge port placement”. A research and advocacy group who will make recommendations, and name and shame car markers who put their charge ports in stupid places. This freeze-prone charge port is not smart. Honorable mention to Mercedes e-Vito who managed to put their charge port in the dumbest and most inconvenient position possible on a van!

    • @alejandromeneses7735
      @alejandromeneses7735 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Like many others, Mercedes decided to ignore the need for a convenient port location (that people will need to use almost daily) and stick with the same place where the fuel cap was. VW even said that they left it on the passenger side near the back because "Drivers already know where the fuel port is, so that will make it easy for them to remember where to plug". They really think we are stupid like that?

    • @Reason077
      @Reason077 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@alejandromeneses7735 Passenger side near the back would be a big improvement on the e-Vito. Mercedes put it right in the middle, so you need a super long cable no matter how you park it. The only worse place to put a charge port would be on the roof!

      @@Reason077 True... I forgot you RHD guys. To me, either right in front of the driver door (unless you have a monster bonnet like Bjorn once endured) or at the back is perfect. Indeed, it should not be too difficult to have it on the driver side for LHD or RHD depending on the market, right?

    • @Reason077
      @Reason077 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alejandromeneses7735 In Tesla's case they would have to design different charge port parts for LHD and RHD vehicles, and it would probably effect placement of the charger hardware within the vehicle and maybe even the design of the battery pack. So, probably more difficult than it seems!

    Wish Tesla M3 sr+ & Soul were the same price in UK, Tesla that means l wish you were cheaper! M3 is about 17% more expensive & attracts luxury vehicle tax. My Soul is being delivered this month, very excited.

    • @fleyua7176
      @fleyua7176 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Took the soul over the M3, it is a very comfortable car and sits higher as well. The m3 in Canada cost nearly 10k more. If the soul has the glass roof it would be perfect especially with no bar in the front. But then you get more noise with less insulation. There is no free lunch I guess. The have stock with the souls here in BC. If they shaped the back like a Porsche, while keeping the front, Kia would make a killing.
      I think you bought an awesome car.

  • @fleyua7176
    @fleyua7176 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I got the Soul EV 2020 64KWH here in Canada BC. 99% of the time can charge at 45kw even in -10C. I picked the soul because of the room and no need to sit "down" into the car. More comfortable than the M3 as well and about 10k cheaper than the base model 3 Sr+ with more effective range. Heating is also very efficient on this car when I compared with other tesla owners. It's generally cooler here in BC so even idling doesn't use up much at all because of the heat pump.
    If the shaped the back like a porshe it would be an awesome looking car. Front is great and led lamps in the front is great for visibility. Not sure that was shown in the previous videos but it's worth a mention. Lighting to the side of the vehicle is excellent and is great for driving safely.

    As for the charge port, our eNero has been doing that as the hinge has dried up with the rain and road crap. I now use the Kia key fob (a flat, thin, metal tag) to gently prise it open it by a few mm, to get a finger around it.
    Front mounted charge port ? Bad idea. What happens when the flap is mashed in a low speed shunt ? If it won't stay shut, you can not start the car!

      Tesla model s and x both with 100kw batteries severely cut charging rates when over 50%.
      Smaller batteries cant handle the heat of fast charging and they have a smaller safe zone of rapid charging .
      Model 3 has better cooling system than even the s,x.
      Rivian may be able to rival the cooling system of the 3.
      Porsche , etron uses a good cooling system and adds a large top and bottom buffer to protect the battery. Thus they can fast charge near 100 %.
      They can always use over the air updates to release more of the battery for usage if they find their batteries are holding up good

      Did have any problems with the soul down to -10C. Driving 70kms a day, snow doesn't do much and just requires a firm touch to open.

    • @seabream
      @seabream 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. I've had two Leafs, current generation and the one previous. I haven't had the lid get frozen shut just due to weather while driving. I have had it freeze and not pop up when I press the open button on the new one when it's been really cold when I've gone through a car wash and I haven't opened it up and dried it before leaving the station, but it's not hard to open in those cases - just press the open button on the key and pull the lid before the latch locks again. I've had both freeze shut when parked outside overnight in freezing rain, but, you know, if you have a centimetre of ice all over the car, it doesn't really matter where the port is. You can't even open the driver's door in those circumstances anyway.

    What probably happened with the stuck charge port was that it was locked. This same thing has happend with my Kia E-Niro. When you went in to got the plastic bag with warm water you propably locked the car. When you got back you unlocked the car with the remote key and at the same time the charge port unlocked. It had nothing to do with the the port being frozen shut

      Jepp...sometimes I need to unlock one more time with the remote to unlock the charge port in front of my e-Soul. You also have to use your whole palm, and lay it across the whole "door", and use a lot of force when there is slush everywhere that is halfway blocking it. @Bjørn Nyland you can't use lady fingers to push this charge door :p

      @@bjornnyland I would like to see someone fill in all panel gaps with a clear or color matching silicone.
      Then slice the silicone in the middle of the gap at an angle so the door, trunk, frunk, charging door can be opened.
