i literally was like "mikey probably looks hot in this" aND THEY DIDN'T EVEN FILM HIM THE WHOLE TIME AND WHEN THEY DID IT WAS JUST A FLASH IM DISPLEASED
Gerard's said that he was influenced by Britpop a lot, and loves British music, plus I think he's part Scottish. Guess cause he's singing a British song here he's picked up a bit of the accent
I remember seeing MCR at T in the Park, and then when Pulp were on you could see Gerard and Mikey at the side of the stage belting out every word and losing it, the same way I did an hour earlier. Was lovely.
As a long time fan of Pulp who would place Different Class as easily the best album of the 90s (it really is fucking sublime), I have only just stumbled across this by chance. I'm no MCR fan, in as much as I know their singles and quite enjoy them, but that's it. However, to my mind, anyone who says this isn't a fantastic cover is nothing other than a music snob. Great energy and you can feel how much the song means to them and the singer in particular.
This may have the only point in the 2010-2011 Gerard felt like he was doing something he wanted to do, because he didn't want My Chemical Romance anymore. He wanted to do something that he enjoyed, he loves Britpop. He doesn't look happy in this clip, but maybe this is the closest thing he to doing Britpop (Along with the Millions and Zero Zero Demos). Maybe this cover made a bit more bearable. So happy he's much happier now.
Common People is one of my favourite songs and Pulp one of my favourite bands.. however this cover is absolutely amazing - how can anyone not see that? I went in with so many preconceptions of how badly MCR would cover this yet they've surprised me so much!
it's a decent sound and everyhting , but i don't know how so many people are saying this is much better than the original. The original was a vocal work of art. Gerard might have a good voice, but jarvis actually told an important story with a perfect dose of cynicism. It was lyrically a masterpiece.
*9 years later* I mean most of the people watching this video are probably MCR fans first and discovered the song through this cover, and I feel like in the vast majority of cases, the first version of a song you hear is the one you prefer.
@@TheVaultable I agree in most cases, though HIMs version of Poison Heart by the Ramones is better than the original. I LOVE the Ramones (I'm one of a quiet few Englishmen who think the Americans did punk WAY better than we did - the Ramones are a far superior band to The Sex Pistols, there, I said it) but HIM's version of the song just has so much more heart to it.
@@TheVaultable MCR is my favorite band of all time but I found the Pulp version first, and when I found this I think I screamed at the top of my lungs in excitement
I do Believe My Chemical Romance Is A True Fan Of Pulp, Of Course. The Album Called Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. And Pulp's Song Misshapes Has A line that states, "Revenge is Gonna Be So Sweet," Check Out That Music Video and at 3 minutes and 22 seconds into the video is when Jarvis Says The Line. But I swear Jarvis Sounds Like Gerard at that One Point.
AHHHHHH THAT'S SO HUGE!!! Mcr is such a great band... can someone seriously deny their ability to do what they used to do? And they picked Pulp which is pratically uncoverable... i love it so much
i love the fact that a lot of people love this cover but of course no one can do it better than pulp obviously. including astro zombies by misfits a lot of mcr haters love that cover.
SO MUCH HATE GOING DOWN ON MY VIDEO! I know you (us) My Chem fans can be pretty passionate and dedicated, but no need to hate on differences opinions. Anyway ENJOY! ;) CHAR XXX p.s. i totally used to hate on mcr haters when i was like 14, but now it is all sweet (i promise you hate filled mcr lovers you will grow out of this phase)
No way is it better then the original, but it love it too bits and if any band should cover a pulp song. Or any song for that matter is my chemical romance. X
I'm a bit late but if you have spotify, it's on there on the 'The Only Hope For Me is You' EP. Not sure if that's the same for other services. Hope that helps x
Not a fan of the band. Not one bit (But I don't hate them). But this is fooking awesome. I never thought this song could be covered with, any decency. I was wrong. Well done MCR.
My Chemical Romance are amazing, can't imagine my life before them! I just wish they would hurry up with Conventional Weapons! I'M WAITING!! I guess it's better to get it right though!!
Of course, when you're doing a live cover, that's totally different, because a lot of times the song is simply fun to hear live and works in getting the crowd excited. In that case, it's OK if one makes it sound similar. But with a studio version, especially in our age with the internet, I could easily go and listen to the original, which I have every reason to, because it sounds so similar to this one.
Although sound production could be improved… OH MAN Gerard nailed the high tempo vocals (but I guess that’s MCR for you) and as always he put his unique twist into the sound.
This defines a perfect cover for me, they take a classic British indie song and literally make it sound like something off danger days rather than an exact clone of the original. THAT ladies and gentlemen is true musical talent.
I LOVE HOW WHENEVER HE SINGS HE HOLDS HIS HEADPHONES
lmao yassssssssss it's so cute
I do that all the time. I thought everyone does?
Doesn’t everyone do that?
He can hold my headphone anytime 😉😋
Dude watch John Lennon record, he has that gentle hold
I never thought anyone could ever pull of a Pulp cover... Until I heard this
Fidlar does a dope cover of this song too
There's a Jeff Rosenstock cover of "Dishes" that is amazing. I had no idea this MCR cover existed. It's great.
Shatner my man
@@rileyk5228 eh, shatner's is good but in a so bad it's good way. still enjoyable though, so you've got a point
Good version alright. Wasn't sure if American audiences would have understood the slang used for cigarettes though.
Is it a crime for me to say that I actually love this cover?
not at all
I do too.
no its a good cover. Coming from a Pulp fan
Jade Kerr no I looooooove this cover

He says 'fine' in such an English accent. It's nice.
funny because he's from new jersey usa
yeah, i know. i guess he sang it that way because it's an english song

fergalicious it's beautiful
I want Gerard Way to take me to a supermarket
+Lucía Bonilla Cañero same
Who doesn't
Lucía Bonilla Cañero same
to see a marching band?
Me too, we can shop for some.. Milk together
I want MCR to make a cover of every single existing song out there
Favourite song, covered by my favourite band. COULD MCR GET ANY MORE PERFECT?!?
They could still be together
Kirsty Wilson they could still be together
I'm sorry
Not O F***ing K lol we said the same thing
YOU'RE HURTING ME

Anyone else here after the reunion?
Im always here lol, Just suffering and in love with Gerard singing this song
Two of my favorite thing,... MCR and Britpop.
I'm obsessed with this cover
This is one of the best covers I have ever heard
the original is always best of course, although, i will admit i love how this cover sounds.
I'm a fan of Pulp. I'm a fan of My Chemical Romance. But more importantly, I'm a fan of great music, and therefore I love this cover.
If Gerard did more Brit Pop covers, that’d be just fine with me 😎
nailed it.
