    I hope everyone is smart enough to compare price per weight/volume anyway, the real tip was the wedge for pouring, thanks!

    What an unexpected treat! I never knew how to search for "how the heck do I get contact cement into anything else without ruining my entire balcony" but this video was it. That tape-edge trick is a life-saver. Thank you for the video on it!

    I am doing this but instead of duct tape, I cut a empty water bottle in half and use it as a funnel. It fits perfect in the small can and it is disposable. Although, I may use the duct tape as well because it will keep the glue from getting all over the rim of the large can. Thanks for the tip!

      @@mgbrowning yeah that’s the big thing to take away is keeping the rim clean so it doesn’t impede the top from coming off 👍

    Awesome! I’ve been planning to do this, I’m just getting started so I only have the small can at the moment but will get that bigger one! Thanks for tip about the tape. Can’t wait to get some of the HD foam

    I found the brush inside the lid of the smaller jars to be very handy...until it gets weak at the joint and breaks free from the lid. Steve, do you use that brush for crafting, or a different brush?

    • @SKSProps
      @SKSProps  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use the brush to get the glue out and a general placement. but then I’ll usually switch over to foam scraps to move it around and thin it

    Any tips on how to start and making my own business making props. This year is my first year making a suit and mask… Wolverine, of course. I literally made it from scraps and things I had laying around so far the mask came out amazing but having trouble w the suit. I saw your videos for tips but want to maybe pursue it as a money making hobby. Open to any and all advice. Thanks

      99% of the time I will tell people not to make it a business because you're going to have less fun once you're not just making for yourself. but on top of that to work on commission you need to develope your skillset as much as possible well before you can start charging. because if people are paying it better look good if not great. I've been a prop maker for over 12 years and made thousands of individual projects. Most don't understand the time it takes to master something. So first off you need to crank out as many good quality props as you can to show what you are capable of well before you can start to open commissions

    Will contact cement stick to poly?

    • @SKSProps
      @SKSProps  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For polyfoam you want to use 3m 74 or 77

    A full gallon runs ~$55... 4x the amount over the 32 fl. oz. can at $20.

    • @SKSProps
      @SKSProps  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yeah but unless you are working on industrial projects there is no way you are going to use a gallon of contact cement on props and costumes before it starts to thicken up, air will make it more difficult to work with and then you have to add thinner to even use it

    • @SKSProps

      As far as glueing stuff together yes it’s still contact cement. I used to use barge but switched to weldwood several years ago because I like the fact that it’s thinner and cheaper

    Extra tip two: wait until it’s tacky on both parts before trying to stick it together.
