    I see Alisson broadcasts as a work of art. In cut, showing off her inner talents, she could be in an art museum or in my living room. I think you have incredible good taste in transmission manufacturing

    This is the best no-nonsense explanation of almost any type of auto trans ever. I'm not a truck driver, just a classic car guy who's rebuilt a couple of auto transmissions. Now I fully understand how the planetary's work. I'm curious though if OTR truckers like the auto vs. the manual trans.

      Im not a OTR I have a private use IH4800 40kgvwr and I normally prefer a hand shaker but an Allison is another story. It is not quite like other trans at all, I wouldn't have another brand auto, I have a long history of destroying slush boxes just never have had an Allison quit on me other than running one out of fluid a few times over a coolant line leaking but it got back on the road as soon as I dumped some fluid back in it, that will usually ruin anything else. That trans was an older 3 speed (cant remember model) but it sure was tough. My current rig has a MD3060 with the built in retarder.

    At about four minutes in, he states helical cut gears allow more power though.
    Helical cut means two or more teeth are in mesh simultaneously.
    For the same size gear, there is less metal to metal contact, and there is the added complication of the transverse wiping effect.
    Straight cut gears have no wiping, and 100% of the tooth metal structure is available to absorb loads.
    Helical cut gears are designed for quieter and smoother performance.
    They have a lower load capacity, and place higher strains on the oil.

    Is it possible to program the torque converter lock-up to occur at a different gear point or to make it manually selectable for heavy haul off-road ?

      Jester Mclarpet idk what series you have,but numerous aftermarket companies make manual lockup controls for the allison 1000,in the 2001 to current chevy trucks. They are very popular with the sleds pull and drag racing community. In high performance trucks,they like to lock the converter as soon as the truck launches.

    I def like my MD3060, what sucks is to unlock that 6th gear, there isn't any switch, you better pray whoever made the chassis will agree to the unlock or Allison won't give you the CODE you need to unlock that 6th gear. Funny how he makes it sound so simple. Hoping to get mine unlocked..... We will see how that goes....

    On our 2nd in 10000 mi. MD 3060. And towing to shop tomorrow, for probably number 3. All in 10,000 miles. My wife and I can't afford this.

      I'm Jose from Santa Rosa California and I Work for Recology Corporation. I'm a maintenance mechanic and I perform PM SERVICE ON THE GARBAGE TRUCK'S, we been having a lot of problems with Allison 3000 and 4000 Transmissions. We Service the Transmissions Every 2000hrs . And some times the Service Light comes on before every 1000hrs . What cost the light to come up too soon ?

    I have a allison transmission it starts off slow at times no codes pops up trans is good been to five shops why is it doing that

      big dog last call hard to say,without knowing what you mean by "starts off slow". Is it short shifting,slipping,taking lots of throttle input to begin moving? Most likely,it simply needs a forced "relearn"/clear tap cells.

    I dont know about trucks but the automated transmissions on cars are way faster than allison or any other ( double clutch transmissions)

    My only issue with this video is that he keeps saying "engine you can put behind this transmission". Last time I checked the transmission went behind the engine.

    Only thing I can say about Allison that is bad is well when someone like me buys a rig/bus with a MD3060 and has 6th gear locked out, there is no flipping any switch, you have to beg the mfg of your rig to give you their blessing in writing to then go beg Allison to charge you a few hundred bucks to unlock that switch your talking about and it's beyond FRUSTRATION having to fight to get that 2nd OD when it's not under warranty and Allison can't be held liable for what I do on or off road. Causing people like me to goto 3rd partys to get it unlocked instead of jumping through hoops and waiting to have to shovel out money for that little switch to be flipped. Dude is lying about any switch, the TCM has to be reprogrammed for the ratio increase and it's a massive pain that doesn't have to be that way.
    "multi million dollar engine"? In what exactly?
    He is right though, when I drive I just keep my foot down to the floor, it's governed at 55 so it doesn't matter much LOL.

    In his introduction he said “it’s kind of like school just give me the facts” phahahahahah schools is all screwed for a while now. I don’t know what school is he talking about but schools don’t teach facts now days sadly...
