HISTORICALLY FUN FACT:
Though the thirty years long war was definitely a LONG war, it's not the longest in that time. The Dutch, while a small country, had an even longer war with the Spanish Habsburg that took 50 years longer, making the Eighty Years war the juicier to cover, right? Well, even though it was 80 years, it wasn't that action-packed. There were long times were just... nothing happened. But hey, maybe we'll make a video on the war in the future. Who knows!

Starting massive wars by throwing Catholics out of windows is a Bohemian tradition. Though the first time around they managed to beat back five crusades using only peasants and wagons so I'd say that one's more impressive.
Honestly wondering, in that town in Bohemia (or the modern German state which was Bohemia) do they have an annual tradition of throwing effigies out of high windows? It would be an interesting local tradition.

EDIT: Just one thing I want to correct. The Habsburg dynasty may have had it's origins in a castle in Switzerland, but was by NO MEANS swiss. The habsburg dynasty came to power via a series of marriage alliances which would end up securing them vast amounts of territory and wealth through inheritance. They not only ended up loosing their old castle very early during their expansion, but would end up fighting the Swiss and have no real connections to the nation besides the habsburg castle.

One fun extra bit to this is that even though Gustavus Adolphus was considered the great Protestant champion in the 30 Years’ War, his daughter and successor Christina converted to Catholicism and gave up the Swedish throne to follow-through with it. She was also a philosopher and one of the most remarkable women of the 17th century in her own right.

I've watched a few summaries of the thirty years war, this is the only one that explains the basics enough that it makes sense. Great job
Problem is that it is not accurate. Many important things like the Treaty of Bärwälde, almost involvement of of the Ottoman Empire, the Emperors literally giving into the demands right from the start!!!! and well alot of personal ambition being down to "religion"

Not far from where I live (Switzerland) there is a whole kanton (appenzell) which is split in half because of this war. They have different culture, politics and even dialects, and this pattern repeated in some other cantons as well, which is funny regarding almost everything started because of a piece of paper on a door...

I do love this animation style. It's interesting how much of history is wrapped in stories and legends. Such as the "nailing on the door", which has no actual supporting evidence. It was him printing off hundreds of copies and distributing them that actually had the impact.

This channel is definitely a changeup compared to the other channels part of the Arch family. Great video through and through but I just wanna mention: Alot of Southeast Europe was largely Eastern Orthodox and Muslim.

Btw the defenestration (a fancy way of saying "throwing someone out of the window")of Prague that started the war was a third defenestration of Prague. I'ts kinda become a cultural tradition and every time we have a government that we don't like, we say its time for a fourth defenestration. Great video btw, liked and subscribed
