It’s hilarious that Eva and Wolfgang were probably the two most talked about characters for the last 3 years just for them to both get clapped in the first chapter💀💀💀
I think it's okay to not like someone dying, and im not here to say thats a wrong opinion, but personally I don't think they couldve made a better victim and culprit combo. Shock value is a part yes, but lasting impact is another factor. Having an early death means you have to leave a lasting impact (sayaka/kaede/leon) or leave unanswered questions to be wrapped up later (imposter/rantaro) since you dont have as much time to get attached. I think both of these accomplish this. There's still a lot of unanswered questions revolving Wolfgang that will probably be wrapped up around the end of the game and I think Eva's death shows good symbolism as well as she was able to create a lasting impact. I prefer that way more than a character with little screentime dying because they need to save the important ones. There will still be antagonistic forces, a support character, etc. Wolfgang and Eva dying doesnt remove the game from that, but I understand if people are upset that they are gone.
Sadly... Wolfgang was the perfect chapter 1 victim. Due to the blackmail, he had plenty of mystery, he got along with almost everyone too. Someone that most people liked dying early on leaves a lasting impact. Makes the situation the cast is in really sink in. Was I expecting him? No... I thought it would be Diana because I thought that she would be getting close to Damon based on the ch 1 demo WeebyNewz described. Eva was also the perfect culprit. In all 3 Danganronpa games, one of the people dying on chapter one got along with the protag. Sayaka, Twogami, and Kaede. It set them up as a red herring for the support character. This gives the protag a push for their development. Thankfully, they were both given plenty of screentime. Whether it was the prologue or ch1, they were given screentime so it made their deaths hit hard for us.

But that doesn't mean the others didn't have potential either Now with both roles of antagonist and support gone, Damon will definitely have other characters fit that role in his story and whoever they'll be, it'll help expand their characters and lore which is good Eden's Garden is trying to go a different way than Danganronpa, leaving the most obvious "main characters" off but still having their stories revealed as the chapters go, and at the same time giving more focus on the "goofier" characters which make them more than just.. Comic relief
Also, now that Wolfgang is dead the students dont have a "leader" and i can totally see them tearing apart from each other and going in differents pairs. (Wenona and Ulysses, Desmond and Eloise, Kai and Damon, etc)
@seaberrysvideodump9602 It's likely Diana is going to be the groups new leader AND Damon's rival. The two are likely foils to one another. After looking at CH1, it seemed like Wolfgang and Eva were actually foils of one another as opposed to Wolfgang and Damon. Wolfgang and Eva opposed each other entirely while Damon still held respect for Wolfgang. Diana and Damon are like, the less extreme versions of Wolfgang and Eva. If that makes sense.

The game's themes seem to be "Just Looking at Facts vs Caring about Feelings" and "Useful" and "Prestigious" talents against those who are simple hobbies. Wolfgang, while optimistic, was a lawyer, who was also hard on criminals and simply pursued facts, much like Damon, while Diana cares about feelings. And She's a cosmetologist, a talent whose sole propose is make people happy, which Damon wouldn't like. Not to mention he's a snake, a reptile that stays stale, while she's a Chameleon, a reptile that adapts. She's the perfect fit for a second main character imo.
I'm gonna be real I wouldn't stand to have the antagonistic and overly hyped character up to chapter 5 to stir trouble for the 4th time. Let them cook.

Ngl, I actually expected both of the people who died to live until chapter 5. Though I guess Eva being a chapter one culprit sorts makes sense, since I remember watching a video by Weebynewz analyzing and theorizing Eden’s Garden and something about Eva being the first to give into temptation and something like being based on Eve being the first human to actually give into temptation
Oh man how did I never make the connection between Eve and the Garden. I love the animal and religious symbolism in the game. Wolfgang being a "sheep" is such a great way to showcase that there is more to him than his cuddly exterior, something hinted by his blackmail
Okay chat, honestly im quite happy that Eva and Wolfgang, not to say I hate them. They were interresting characters. But it gives more spotlight to others characters like Grace, Kai etc...Plus, The creators said that this game wouldnt redo the mechanics of a average danganronpa killing game. So dont expect to have 2 deaths in chapter 3. Or the buff one to die in chap4. If you dont like the game because your fav characters died early. We dont care, go cry, its not like its going to change their fates anyway 😂
Those who people want to see live most… are those who are most desperate to escape. When they realise that it’s kill or be killed, they’ll struggle to survive. Only because she yearned for hope, was Eva consumed by the Despair of her Reality.
And here I thought that Kai would die early on. I’m so glad he’ll (hopefully and probably) live longer than that, considering it seems like he’ll be the new support for Damon
I hate how ppl are purposely missing the point of two important characters going in one chapter. You all are so wired to the danganronpa tropes, you base survival off how important YOU think the character is gonna be. P:eg said in the beginning “they were not doing danganronpa tropes.” So many ppl view things at such a surface level, that you’re unable to see the multitude of other characters that have the potential to step up in these two’s places. It’s a death game. Why are so many ppl viewing it as smth that has to be based on character importance, when the entire point of these two dying is to show that no one is safe in these situations. Just bc it wasn’t predicable like you wanted it to be doesn’t mean the writing is bad. If you can’t see why these two were good picks to start out p:eg, then just don’t watch and leave it for ppl who want smth different instead of the same old story. Great job mischaracterizing the points people are actually making with a strawman. (Nobody argued about ’importance’. They’re talking about potential, the predictability of it, and how the story could’ve been better overall. Along with a multitude of other things.) I’ll given an example, I don’t feel like writing an essay: The pathos and logic route connecting to Wolfgang and Damon’s characters and the potential for their power struggle being wasted, (while the canon does usually have some sort of power struggle, the antagonist has way less ground to stand on than the protagonist and are usually disliked by the other members of the cast. They’re not nearly as charismatic or as emotionally intelligent as Wolfgang, just making ‘evil’ expressions and being transparently manipulative.) Also, If you think shock value = good writing, I don’t even know what to say to that. Consume other pieces of media.

Same. Even though PEG said that they weren't going to use a whole lot of tropes from OG DR games, the red-herring support is a trope that is too perfect to pass up on. It's a trope that can jumpstart the protags character development and motivation throughout the rest of the game. Other tropes like ch3 triple murder, or ch4 buff death, they're tropes that aren't necessary and are niche to only Danganronpa. Red-herring support characters can happen in any story and work as excellent plot-twists and hooks.
I think its really weird how Tozu/the mastermind(s) did everything to make her the first killer (the equation only she could solve and the traitor perk that cemented her fate upon acquiring it)
I kinda expected Eva to be a culprit in this game (maybe not on the first chapter, but still), but man.. i wish Wolfgang had his chances to live longer and has his own character development.. Atleast grace is still alive (for now)
SPOILERS I like this. Eva as the culprit in chapter one makes sense. Her character design may seemed intimidating but her commentary throughout the game you can tell she’s fragile. Wolfgang’s death didn’t bother me, I never cared for him I found him quite annoying tbh. I will say I wasn’t expecting him to be the first victim though. I don’t understand why people are so upset they made it very CLEAR they weren’t using danganronpa tropes and that they were doing their own thing. And y’all should know by now that when it comes to any danganronpa styled fangame or danganronpa in general never get attached to a character. This isn’t brand new 😒 I understand people can have an opinion but some of y’all are doing to much. Also for those saying they’re so many unanswered questions, THATS THE POINT! Wolfgang’s blackmail adds something to the story that we will figure out later in game. On the other hand, I don’t see the uproar about Eva. Once it was revealed that her true title is ultimate mathlete instead of ultimate liar I didn’t think her character was important anymore I don’t see what else she could have added to the story.

@ Danganronpa is a famous well known franchise. I know they were gonna use some tropes or methods from danganronpa it’s kinda hard not to, it’s literally the blueprint. There were some tropes used from Trigger Happy Havoc that were noticeable in this chapter. When I said not using danganronpa tropes I meant character wise not plot wise. Let me elaborate a little more. Instead of people looking at the characters in a standalone aspect they’re grouping and comparing them to danganronpa characters to spot loopholes in the story/game that’s what I meant by them not going in the direction. For example I seen a lot of theories prior that said Diana would be the mastermind since she gives Tsumugi vibes, however that’s to obvious and follows a danganronpa trope as we all know in v3 her the ultimate cosplayer was the mastermind. Also I feel them getting rid of the 2 fan favs earlier on is a good idea, it gives the spotlight to other characters in the story. Hopefully this made a little more sense to comment earlier.

Thanks for changing the thumbnail. I was honestly spoiled by it because I was trying to find a stream that continued gameplay after daily life only to see who was executed. The shock factor and mystery was definitely gone by the time the culprit was revealed, but I guess it was interesting paying close attention to the culprit, especially during investigation and trial as I was seeing everything unfold for the first time.

(POSSIBLE SPOILERS) If im gonna be honest, I don't really want a nagito/kokichi antagonist. While yes, they're interesting characters, I want an antagonist like Byakuya, someone who's not full on "evil/crazy", rather someone whose morally grey, or is the complete opposite of the protagonist. If theres one thing Danganronpa does in its games, its create a message with antonyms, like "Despair/Hope" "Truth/Lies" etc etc. Im not 100% sure where PED is going in this direction. I think the message for this game is Hope/delusion?? Not really sure, but I have a prediction about how this games gonna go. In every Danganronpa game, theres always atleast one character who will be different from the rest of the cast, someone who doesnt agree with everyone else's beliefs, Ex, Byakuya, Nagito, Kokichi. In this game, we're the antagonist, (to everyone else atleast.) Damon, like everyone else, wants to escape, but doesn't like to believe in all that false hope stuff. In the prologue, he talks about how useless everyone's talent is, causing a majority of the cast to dislike him. One of those people who still had hope for him being Diana. I feel like Diana's gonna be the antagonist for this game and Im all for it. After the class trial ended, she made this speech on how she's gonna "continue Wolfgang's legacy" and try to find justice. During the prologue, Im pretty sure Wolfgang was the antagonist? (Im not 100% sure, to me it was kind of confusing on who was who.) Now that he's dead, we have someone picking up his legacy. Unlike the other antagonists, Diana isn't morally evil or even grey, so far, she seems like someone who wants to step up and save everyone. I feel like Diana doesn't fully think Damon is a terrible person, we've seen her try to be friendly with Damon and I doubt she's gonna stop acting friendly towards him. In my opinion, this game is a breath of fresh air from the stereotypical Danganronpa game, it feels more realistic than the others (Hope that makes sense.) I wish for the best with this game and am 100% for chapter two!
Honestly i was fine with Wolfgang dying so early, not because I hated him but i feel like even though he died he will still have a strong presence or secrets that we can explore in later chapters (idk I could be wrong) As for Eva im less okay with dying? Not because i don't feel she won't have presence in later chapters like damon will obvs talk about her and some other characters too but idk. I'm like actually sad she is gone so early i was really enjoying her character but it is what it is. I will just let them cook and see and also think about this more.
He 100% is going to have a major presence in later chapters. He's likely going to be one of the biggest factors in the finale. He's likely going to be like Rantaro. Since he was also the groups leader, his death is also going to jumpstart their development. Which we see with Diana. For Eva... she's kind of like Sayaka and Kaede. Both are characters that were close to the protags of their respective games and their deaths is what drove them to develop. P:EG said that they weren't going to rely on tropes for this Fangan but I think they meant Danganronpa specific tropes. A red-herring support isn't a Danganronpa specific trope and can happen in any story because it's an interesting hook and impacts the protag in an interesting way.

The agony and emotion in this execution far exceeds any canon dangan. for a fanproject this is nothing short of exceptional. I'm not sure how much I agree with both characters set-up for importance dying in the first chapter, perhaps it's a little bias for danganronpa tropes however I think Eva had a lot more to give and her character could've developed in many interesting ways which I'm sad won't be explored further now.

Well, acc, many games showcase a character in a lot of promotional material just for them to later die on, but they still leave a lasting impact on the story either way so.

Honestly, completely agree. Once the shock value wears off, it just feels empty and pointless. It’s like if they killed off Kokichi or Komaeda in chapter 1 as a culprit. I really feel like this decision will kill a lot of interest in the game.
@@bernkastel7438 I think it will make the game stronger. Characters like Wolfgang and Eva are such staples in Danganronpa that an over reliance can be created on them. If the game needs Eva to be interesting it was never a good game to begin with.

From the start, I had a feeling those two characters were going to die. It seems like Danganronpa fangame creators are always trying so hard to shock their audience that they end up doing the most predictable thing. They say they want to break away from the original formula, but then they rely on "shock value" by killing off characters who were clearly set up as the main ones. They get all the attention in promotions and are made to feel super important. In trying so hard to be "unpredictable," they actually make it pretty obvious. That said, I really enjoyed the chapter and the justification they gave for it. It’s just a detail I happened to notice. Hopefully, this opens up opportunities to focus on other characters who didn’t stand out as much at the beginning, "filling in" the roles left vacant now that these two are gone.

I’m actually so disappointed. Taking two of the characters with the most potential and killing them off for shock value. (That doesn’t even work when V3 and SDR2 did those twists already, it’s played out and tired)The potential for the duality between Wolfgang and Damon, the potential for an interesting rivalry. Eva’s potential as Damon’s support. It’s all gone. There’s no reason to care about the rest of the story when it’s likely just gonna be generic Danganronpa fare now.
Not to mention that the execution has nothing to do with Eva’s talent, her personality, or her backstory. It’s just lazy, with choppy animation to boot. I have no clue why they thought these deaths were a good idea for the story. This reeks of a game that was in development hell and went through 50 rewrites.

There will still be antagonistic forces, a support character, etc. Wolfgang and Eva dying doesnt remove the game from that, but I understand if people are upset that they are gone.
Sadly... Wolfgang was the perfect chapter 1 victim. Due to the blackmail, he had plenty of mystery, he got along with almost everyone too. Someone that most people liked dying early on leaves a lasting impact. Makes the situation the cast is in really sink in. Was I expecting him? No... I thought it would be Diana because I thought that she would be getting close to Damon based on the ch 1 demo WeebyNewz described.
Eva was also the perfect culprit. In all 3 Danganronpa games, one of the people dying on chapter one got along with the protag. Sayaka, Twogami, and Kaede. It set them up as a red herring for the support character. This gives the protag a push for their development.
Thankfully, they were both given plenty of screentime. Whether it was the prologue or ch1, they were given screentime so it made their deaths hit hard for us.

Now with both roles of antagonist and support gone, Damon will definitely have other characters fit that role in his story and whoever they'll be, it'll help expand their characters and lore which is good
Eden's Garden is trying to go a different way than Danganronpa, leaving the most obvious "main characters" off but still having their stories revealed as the chapters go, and at the same time giving more focus on the "goofier" characters which make them more than just.. Comic relief
Also, now that Wolfgang is dead the students dont have a "leader" and i can totally see them tearing apart from each other and going in differents pairs.

After looking at CH1, it seemed like Wolfgang and Eva were actually foils of one another as opposed to Wolfgang and Damon. Wolfgang and Eva opposed each other entirely while Damon still held respect for Wolfgang.

@@enastruewifeI agree. In fact, I think Wolfgang would have been a bad antagonist choice. The game's themes seem to be "Just Looking at Facts vs Caring about Feelings" and "Useful" and "Prestigious" talents against those who are simple hobbies.
Wolfgang, while optimistic, was a lawyer, who was also hard on criminals and simply pursued facts, much like Damon, while Diana cares about feelings. And She's a cosmetologist, a talent whose sole propose is make people happy, which Damon wouldn't like. Not to mention he's a snake, a reptile that stays stale, while she's a Chameleon, a reptile that adapts. She's the perfect fit for a second main character imo.
I'm gonna be real I wouldn't stand to have the antagonistic and overly hyped character up to chapter 5 to stir trouble for the 4th time. Let them cook.

Great job mischaracterizing the points people are actually making with a strawman. (Nobody argued about ’importance’. They’re talking about potential, the predictability of it, and how the story could’ve been better overall. Along with a multitude of other things.) I’ll given an example, I don’t feel like writing an essay: The pathos and logic route connecting to Wolfgang and Damon’s characters and the potential for their power struggle being wasted, (while the canon does usually have some sort of power struggle, the antagonist has way less ground to stand on than the protagonist and are usually disliked by the other members of the cast. They’re not nearly as charismatic or as emotionally intelligent as Wolfgang, just making ‘evil’ expressions and being transparently manipulative.) Also, If you think shock value = good writing, I don’t even know what to say to that. Consume other pieces of media.

Same. Even though PEG said that they weren't going to use a whole lot of tropes from OG DR games, the red-herring support is a trope that is too perfect to pass up on. It's a trope that can jumpstart the protags character development and motivation throughout the rest of the game. Other tropes like ch3 triple murder, or ch4 buff death, they're tropes that aren't necessary and are niche to only Danganronpa. Red-herring support characters can happen in any story and work as excellent plot-twists and hooks.

I like this. Eva as the culprit in chapter one makes sense. Her character design may seemed intimidating but her commentary throughout the game you can tell she’s fragile. Wolfgang’s death didn’t bother me, I never cared for him I found him quite annoying tbh. I will say I wasn’t expecting him to be the first victim though. I don’t understand why people are so upset they made it very CLEAR they weren’t using danganronpa tropes and that they were doing their own thing. And y’all should know by now that when it comes to any danganronpa styled fangame or danganronpa in general never get attached to a character. This isn’t brand new 😒 I understand people can have an opinion but some of y’all are doing to much. Also for those saying they’re so many unanswered questions, THATS THE POINT! Wolfgang’s blackmail adds something to the story that we will figure out later in game. On the other hand, I don’t see the uproar about Eva. Once it was revealed that her true title is ultimate mathlete instead of ultimate liar I didn’t think her character was important anymore I don’t see what else she could have added to the story.

@ Danganronpa is a famous well known franchise. I know they were gonna use some tropes or methods from danganronpa it’s kinda hard not to, it’s literally the blueprint. There were some tropes used from Trigger Happy Havoc that were noticeable in this chapter. When I said not using danganronpa tropes I meant character wise not plot wise. Let me elaborate a little more. Instead of people looking at the characters in a standalone aspect they’re grouping and comparing them to danganronpa characters to spot loopholes in the story/game that’s what I meant by them not going in the direction. For example I seen a lot of theories prior that said Diana would be the mastermind since she gives Tsumugi vibes, however that’s to obvious and follows a danganronpa trope as we all know in v3 her the ultimate cosplayer was the mastermind. Also I feel them getting rid of the 2 fan favs earlier on is a good idea, it gives the spotlight to other characters in the story. Hopefully this made a little more sense to comment earlier.

The shock factor and mystery was definitely gone by the time the culprit was revealed, but I guess it was interesting paying close attention to the culprit, especially during investigation and trial as I was seeing everything unfold for the first time.

If im gonna be honest, I don't really want a nagito/kokichi antagonist. While yes, they're interesting characters, I want an antagonist like Byakuya, someone who's not full on "evil/crazy", rather someone whose morally grey, or is the complete opposite of the protagonist.
If theres one thing Danganronpa does in its games, its create a message with antonyms, like "Despair/Hope" "Truth/Lies" etc etc. Im not 100% sure where PED is going in this direction. I think the message for this game is Hope/delusion?? Not really sure, but I have a prediction about how this games gonna go.
In every Danganronpa game, theres always atleast one character who will be different from the rest of the cast, someone who doesnt agree with everyone else's beliefs, Ex, Byakuya, Nagito, Kokichi. In this game, we're the antagonist, (to everyone else atleast.) Damon, like everyone else, wants to escape, but doesn't like to believe in all that false hope stuff. In the prologue, he talks about how useless everyone's talent is, causing a majority of the cast to dislike him. One of those people who still had hope for him being Diana.
I feel like Diana's gonna be the antagonist for this game and Im all for it. After the class trial ended, she made this speech on how she's gonna "continue Wolfgang's legacy" and try to find justice. During the prologue, Im pretty sure Wolfgang was the antagonist? (Im not 100% sure, to me it was kind of confusing on who was who.) Now that he's dead, we have someone picking up his legacy. Unlike the other antagonists, Diana isn't morally evil or even grey, so far, she seems like someone who wants to step up and save everyone. I feel like Diana doesn't fully think Damon is a terrible person, we've seen her try to be friendly with Damon and I doubt she's gonna stop acting friendly towards him.
In my opinion, this game is a breath of fresh air from the stereotypical Danganronpa game, it feels more realistic than the others (Hope that makes sense.) I wish for the best with this game and am 100% for chapter two!

He 100% is going to have a major presence in later chapters. He's likely going to be one of the biggest factors in the finale. He's likely going to be like Rantaro. Since he was also the groups leader, his death is also going to jumpstart their development. Which we see with Diana.
For Eva... she's kind of like Sayaka and Kaede. Both are characters that were close to the protags of their respective games and their deaths is what drove them to develop.
P:EG said that they weren't going to rely on tropes for this Fangan but I think they meant Danganronpa specific tropes. A red-herring support isn't a Danganronpa specific trope and can happen in any story because it's an interesting hook and impacts the protag in an interesting way.

The agony and emotion in this execution far exceeds any canon dangan. for a fanproject this is nothing short of exceptional. I'm not sure how much I agree with both characters set-up for importance dying in the first chapter, perhaps it's a little bias for danganronpa tropes however I think Eva had a lot more to give and her character could've developed in many interesting ways which I'm sad won't be explored further now.

I think it will make the game stronger. Characters like Wolfgang and Eva are such staples in Danganronpa that an over reliance can be created on them. If the game needs Eva to be interesting it was never a good game to begin with.

This entire chapter feels like a train wreck
From the start, I had a feeling those two characters were going to die. It seems like Danganronpa fangame creators are always trying so hard to shock their audience that they end up doing the most predictable thing. They say they want to break away from the original formula, but then they rely on "shock value" by killing off characters who were clearly set up as the main ones. They get all the attention in promotions and are made to feel super important. In trying so hard to be "unpredictable," they actually make it pretty obvious.
That said, I really enjoyed the chapter and the justification they gave for it. It’s just a detail I happened to notice. Hopefully, this opens up opportunities to focus on other characters who didn’t stand out as much at the beginning, "filling in" the roles left vacant now that these two are gone.

I’m actually so disappointed. Taking two of the characters with the most potential and killing them off for shock value. (That doesn’t even work when V3 and SDR2 did those twists already, it’s played out and tired)The potential for the duality between Wolfgang and Damon, the potential for an interesting rivalry. Eva’s potential as Damon’s support. It’s all gone. There’s no reason to care about the rest of the story when it’s likely just gonna be generic Danganronpa fare now.
It gives a good symbolism tho as Wolfgang represents Adam and eva representing eve

Not to mention that the execution has nothing to do with Eva’s talent, her personality, or her backstory. It’s just lazy, with choppy animation to boot. I have no clue why they thought these deaths were a good idea for the story. This reeks of a game that was in development hell and went through 50 rewrites.

But symbolism doesn’t = good writing. Where would they take the story after this? Sure, it’s shocking. I’m surprised. But what is the implication? Think carefully about what they’d do from here and whether or not any of that would be interesting at all.
