Mike Kirby was born in Manchester, educated at Manchester Grammar School and the Universities of Durham, Birmingham, Manchester, Cambridge and Cumbria. He worked within the NHS as a Radiotherapy Physicist at the Christie and Royal Preston Hospitals; and academically at Liverpool and Manchester Universities.
At Liverpool he teaches and supervises both UG and PG therapeutic radiographers; at Manchester he supervises at doctoral level, Clinical Scientists (Medical Physics) training for Consultant roles in the NHS. He holds membership of professional bodies and Radiotherapy/Oncology societies in the UK, Europe and the USA and is a published author and researcher.
His national work is presently as a Fellow of the British Institute of Radiology; organising research, meetings, webinars and international conferences on Radiotherapy and Oncology. He trained for the Church of England at Westcott House in Cambridge and was ordained Deacon in 2013; priest 2014. He has held positions at the Cathedrals of Blackburn, Chester and here in Liverpool.
