A Memoir on How the Batla House Encounter Made Everyone a Suspect

- On 19 September 2008, on a tip-off, Special Cell of Delhi Police raided L/18 flat in a Muslim-majority neighbourhood of Batla House. The area was cordoned off to nab the suspects of the Delhi Blasts. In the gunfire exchange, two occupants of the flats were killed, one occupant surrendered, and a police inspector was martyred.
Neyaz Farooquee was at the time, studying in Jamia University and lived in a flat close to where the encounter took place. Years later, he has penned a memoir on his experiences as a boy from Bihar who came to Delhi’s Jamia Nagar for better prospects.

Here are those 'Upon reaching the four-storied house the police’s attempt to storm the flat on the second floor at around 10 30 AM (IST) led to a heavy exchange of fire. Sharma received the first burst of fire from the terrorists holed up inside. After the ensuing exchange of fire two suspected terrorist, Atif Amin and Mohammad Sajid were killed, two other suspects Mohammad Saif and Zeeshan were arrested, while one managed to escape.[19][20]Also two Delhi police personnel were injured, among which, Sharma who led the operation, later succumbed to the injuries. Later, the intelligence team said that the arrested allegedly had links with Dubai and further questioned if they had any link with Dawood Ibrahim.[21]
It is now learnt that Mohammad Sajid was not killed and he later surfaced in Syria as an ISISrecruiter.'
What you have mentioned is not verified according to the judgement of court? You're a renowned TH-camr and yet, you're publicizing a cock and bull tale that even the police considers just as a witness's statement, not as a valid investigation report. I'm graduated, doing masters and the group with whom I have been kidding around since my school days is consist of only one Muslim and that is me and I see other Muslim friends who left study just after school they are all same they can't connect with other communities and living in the same distance with same thinking that they don't belong here or like they are different. Before telling you something want to tell. My village is completely Muslim village and out of 10 house 7 belongs to thouse people's who are directly working in indian army approx.
My mother grandfather was in indian army, my maternal and paternal grandfather was in BSF and Police for 40 years. My dad was in indian army, my uncle and many cousin are in police and Indian army. My friend are in India army. I faced an accident and become unfit for army so i came civil line and become an IT engineering. I work almost 16 states of india and meet lakhs of people's in my 12 year out of home. I meet more Hindu then Muslim and 99.9% are my good friends. But when i came first time in Delhi my company HR told me after when i asked for sailary of one month that everyone got except me & one my Hindu frnd, she said you people's was on leave for two days dont know you r JK people's you can be terrorist. I have 20year educated Qualification as well my frnd is educated and staying in India can be terrorist even wd 100% sure non of her family member was in army. I face discreamination many time for food (even I dont eat that hurt anyone) for name and for religion. Sometime even dont get room on rent.
My dad who served 18year Indian army still every night call me and ask stay safe stay side do go near Mandir or Hindu dense area.
After 70 year of independence we still searching our safety and existence. Almost we lost that generation who fought for our freedom now we are equal but still get treat like second class and feel unsafe.

There are police encounters with suspicious circumstances of foul play but I truly believe batla encounter was genuine. Though we cannot deny the fact that the incident had repercussions but such actions are needed to ensure security.

Not only three men, but Zeeshan was also arrested and Ariz Khan managed to escape.

Delhi still suffers from this, I knew a young Muslim in his 20s, coming from an educated family with relatives who hold ranks of reputable designations in the department and Delhi university got caught by the police while he was with his friends. His friends were allowed to go but he wasn't Reason? He had a Muslim name and a big beard (although all his non Muslim friends had much bigger beard as well). Obviously they got nothing on him besides those 2 things and had to apologize since the seniors came down heavily upon them for the unnecessary hold up. Poor chap had to cut his beard down for few days. But can you imagine if he were to be an outsider in Delhi and no one to call for help or who could actually get him to prove his innocence? Till now the stigma is there, till now the fear is still there. It's a shame and no other wants to show or talk about it.

While I Condone the event and show my emphatic sentiment with this young man, some questions haunt me....Why don't you also show similar stories of rudresh of Karnataka (RSS worker) who was slaughtered like a goat by Islamic radicals in 2016, kar sevaks family of godra incident of 2002, Sikh families of 1984, and brahmins persecution in the 1960s in Tamilnadu, families of Kashmiri Pandits and so on and so forth. While quint's heart bleeds and panders to the minorities why do you not take up such similar stories of the majority community or other minority group's stories like Jains and Buddhists or even Sikhs? Are they in some ways fewer humans. While it is important to accommodate and stand up for the rights of the minorities, paying equal attention to the tragedies of the Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs.
