    That moment when you try to find a level of volume that lets you hear Nick, but not the person eating next to the microphone.

    So happy to hear a student with thoughtful feedback. Really adds some needed balance to the "other" commentary.

    Think like a dan:
    "Hidden move go is fun!"
    "My toddler makes me tired."
    "I like tea."

      Lesser-known but equally valuable thoughts:
      "Andrew Jackson Sucks at Go."
      "Gather 'round, children."
      "But the robot says to play here."
      "THIS IS THE MOVE!"

    Omg, first time on this channel for 2/3 years, back then it was this move comes from variations studied by “insert Japanese go master from pas centuries”, today it s become smth like the IA says this move is -2% compared to its preferred move.
    That does make sense when trying to find the best move ... can t help but to think smth has been lost though ... some magic along the way ... go is still great, our time is frightening though ...

    Can somebody shut up Dan? I'll subscribe to patreon if one of the funding goals will be gaging him for the time of recordings.

    I don't get the opening at all. In the opening theory video you said this was a bad move (black on the lower right) because now you give your opponent space to develop along the bottom.. am I missing something?

    • @baduk_pov
      @baduk_pov 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this case, the difference is that Black is playing the move. That is important because Black goes first and so they are not actually giving the opponent space to develop but rather Black is making that side more attractive for themself! You can even see that this happened in the game: by making an enclosure in the lower right, Black indeed played on the most attractive side :) The point is, if it was White playing the move, Black could follow up by playing on that side (which would be "bad" as you said). But for Black it is fine.

    I am a dan!... on Foxy... so not really

    • @paysonfox88
      @paysonfox88 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too! Foxy doesn't have real dan players until you get to about 3D. 3-4 dan on foxy is roughly equivalent to AGA 2D and KGS 1D from what I've experienced. I've never played anyone strong in real life, so I wouldn't know. However, I know That foxy can't be more than 2 stones weaker than the AGA ratings. There is an article on the rating systems between real life and compares internet servers too. I assume that your foxy 1D rating equates to at least 3K in real life right?
      Are you a 2-3K player Wook2a?? Just curious. I'm trying to equate my own level in the AGA based on my own foxy rating.

    13:30 -- O3 is bad for several reasons. The Primary one is Direction of play. The other approach works with black's corner enclosure and strengthens his moyo. The move you feared was the right one because it does multiple things and would have been in the right direction.
    Nick, you have read the book "the direction of play" right??? That is textbook DOP problem there.

  • @paysonfox88
    @paysonfox88 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Or you could play like I do -- think like a Dan on LSD.
    My style is to offer trades to my opponents. Since nobody ever counts them, I tend to come out on top. It wouldn't work against Nick or Andrew who are trained in the old ways, but against my internet opponent's they do well.
    Also, I win a lot of games where my opponent is trying to reject my trade offer due to it being obviously good for me, and they make a dragon. Then I get to have about 40+ moves of great fun chasing it around.
    If you get to at least KGS 2K level at any time in serious play -- look at your opponent's game logs to get their style down. Watch out for players who's strategy is to slay dragons. Great Dragon slayers require much preparation and reading to defeat. See, it's like hard work up front, then cruise control after the thing forms. If you get a dragon slayer, watch out for a one sided affair either way. I've lost games by 40 to even rated opponents, but won by 50+ due to big kills. It's a very exciting style of Go and really helps with shape, direction, and reading .
    I challenge any of you SDK players to try my style of dragonslayer. It will force you to improve all fundamentals and helps with reading to boot.
    Nick would never suggest that way of learning, but it's FUN!!!
