She is a famous tiktoker now in Ph. She tried though but proved harder. Glad she found her niche. Maybe she'll try again in the future ...Common occurrence yes. Hard to surprise a Filipino in terms of singing (and dancing) because we see it all the time in any age from all walks of life.

I remember when I was growing up in the Philippines, my babysitter was training me to sing all songs in her song book. I ended up singing for my class when I was 8 to 10. But I never picked up the mic again decades later when I came to the States. I think it's how people in PH are raised and how kids are surrounded by people willing to teach anyone. Got my early training, just didn't pursue it.

Here in Japan, I also have a filipina classmate. I've never seen her singing in school even in her house. And then when we decided to go to karaoke to sing and have some fun, she sings like a pro like she didn't do any practices nor it was her hobby. Their breathe control and air capacity is insanely large that they can sing some high notes songs like it was natural for them even without doing any practices.

Growing up in PH, I remember most of our teacher in all different grades encourages us students to sing. The teachers will often ask if there's anyone with talent they'd like to share, no matter what it was. You could literally raise your hand randomly and ask the teacher for permission to sing, she will either say go ahead, or maybe in 5 minutes, but she/he would never say no. I have lived in the US most my life, but my best and fondest memory has always been my childhood in PH. I have travelled the world and there's no other country like PH.

Why did you leave if I may ask? Cause not only are the people beautiful inside and out, but the country looks so too!
Or is that just what the tourist board wants everyone to see

@@FishFinga17 it was my mothers decision to move to the US. The US is a great place to live if you are young and want to work hard to make $, but it is not a great place to live once you get old and retired imo. Well, just like most countries, it has it's flaws, but for the most part PH is wonderful, specially if you are into amazing beaches, friendly people and want the relaxed province life. I also like how affordable it is to live in PH, unlike the US where you have a mortgage ball and chain for 30 years, it feels more like slavery. Dont even get me started with government in the US..... PH gov for the most part leave you alone, unless you do something illegal. I also enjoy the food in PH, everything is made fresh and for the most part, organic ingredient is the norm, not the exception. The fruits are also out of this world delicious, non can compare. I have been to all the Caribbean islands, I've been to Europe and I have seen most of America, parts of south America and half of Asia, and I pick PH as my place of retirement. The only real issue for me in PH is the heat, holy hell it's hot even during winter. lol :)

@@draxxes1 No escaping the heat in the tropics. And PH is slap bang in the middle.
Never been to the PH, in fact have not managed to travel much beside going to the UK (not a culture shock as a South African I know) in the late 90's, and talking about mortgage, I basically lost the home I grew up in recently due to the economic turn from this awful virus. I'm sure we'll come through this stronger though.
I do believe I'll make my way to PH someday. It's definitely on my bucket list, cause beside the beaches.
I need to see Katrina Velarde. I call her the Beast from the East.
Katrina, Jona, Darryl Ong. I could go on and on.
PH is the land of the singer. Period

@@FishFinga17 sorry to hear about your house, that sucks. If you have an open mind and a positive can do attitude you will fall in love with PH. There's a lot of foreigners that visit PH for a few weeks or a few months and they end up staying for years or permanently. Check out '8 Days in 8 Minutes' on YT, it shows the good and the ugly. Katrina V is amazing! My favorite female artist in the world is Morissette Amon, she is called. "Asias Phoenix" for a reason. Check her cover of "Rise Up" on the Wish Bus. If you visit PH, Manila is a good start, it has all the western world supplies you need, but it is expensive, almost the same price as US with the traffic to go with it. Cebu is the best of both worlds, you have the city to buy what you need and the island vibe when you want to chill by the beach. Still expensive, but not as much as Manila. Mindanao is my favorite, the media has scared the tourist from visiting it, so there's less tourist traps and more local vibe....The smart tourist have figured out that the Media is 1000x hyping the danger. It's a secret that Mindanao is safe that most of us dont tell others. lol. If you visit Mindanao, you will probably meet Australian, Canadians, Russians living their among the locals just fine. Just like any place you travel, just use common sense and you'll be safe. No expensive jewelry, dont flash your cash in public and dont be an A hole with an attitude, or they will def kill you. lol. Pilipino do not like being made fun of or disrespected. 85% catholic, they are nice till you piss them off.

@@draxxes1 "Do'nt be an A hole, or they'll kill you!" 🤣. Sounds just about right. I was born into the Anglican church, so the Catholic vibe is not foreign to me at all.
I'm so yearning to go there now. Starting to lick my lips at the prospect.
P.S No need to tell me about Mori. She's a marvel. Don't know why, but my heart is with Katrina.
Scary thing when you blink, there's another crazy good singer. It's insane the talent there
