This was my first "half stack" back in the early 90's. Paired with a Peavey 4x12 cab that was loaded with G12K-85 Celestions. I recall in the middle of band practice one day, it caught fire. Luckily we doused it quickly before we burnt the house down.
Great tones man! Here in Finland this amp is kinda legendary, because it was used by our most legendary guitar hero Albert Järvinen back in the 70's. I have searched one to buy about 10 years now and still haven't found one, so I'm kinda jealous of Americans, who can buy these for under 100 bucks :D
@@stevewinwood3674 I was able to get a Peavey keys 60 amp for free. Also in free deal; Yamaha 88 key keyboard, M Audio 61 key music station non-working so far, and a keyboard stand. Just get this old stuff out-a-here. I love FREE.
@Ian Yeah I listen to all kinds of 60s-70s psych/garage/acid rock, including the 13th floor elevators. Hook up a guitar with single coils and crank the reverb and I bet this amp would do it no problem.
My Second (and first BIG) amp, bought in 1978! I had three cabs with it... a Peavey 2x15, a Traynor 8x10, and a generic brand with 4 ten inch speaker with "whizzer cones" designed to give more high end. This through those 3 cabs played outside on my porch would elicit noise complaints from neighbours 3 miles away! Now, I get club owners asking me to turn my 15 watt Vox down!! Ahhh the good old days!
Just found one through a friend and I'm definitely going to aquire this. Wasn't too hip to it but my God I'm so glad I found it and I'm sure it will make a fitting and excellent addition to my Amp collection
Had one in the early 80's ran 2 4x12 baffles , Vox wah peddle and fuzz box. Best amp i ever had. Regret selling it. You have to try different settings to get that tone just right.
I just got this version and the version without the "Master" section. FUCKING KILLER amps. The Effects channel alone can get all sorts of crazy tones. The six band EQ has some serious POWER.
I have this amp and I’ve been having troubles with the clean channel. Not a lot of info on these online but I’ve figured out that far right inputs are for clean with no effects. But when I play through it I can hear a weird fuzziness behind the clean sound.
Greeting!!! Thank you very much for the channel you made ... I and my friends in Serbia are big fans of Peavey amplifiers and we have a lot of them. Some are correct, some are fixing :) Please, if you are interested, record a short video with the presentation of the fuzz section ... that is a problem for us. We are not sure if the repair was successful because we mix clean and fuzz sound at the same time. Thanks a lot :)
For that time in the 70’s the Fender twin had 100 watts rms and considered loud as hell ! This Peavey had 210 and would blow your head off !!! And the tone was actually pretty decent
I just picked one up today after I bought an excellent unmolested Peavey TNT150..$150 for the TNT and the head was free..Needs some cleaning but all works in exception of the reverb...These go way back..
Can you give any details on what kinds of things need to be looked at or common repairs on these old solid state peavy amps? I am done with buying used tube amps after buying two that were DOA because the sellers couldn’t give a damn about properly shipping the amps 😔
I used my old one (1978-1981) with a Big Muff or MXR D+ into Normal Channel, I never got much I liked soundwise going into the other channel. Sold my Amp in 1983.
I just bought the musician 400...mine had the solid chrome looking knobs and no master controls...any idea what year it was made? Serial starts with a 4-A
This sounds SO GOOD. Sorry for the loaded question, but what speakers / microphones / mic placement / reverb in the DAW did you use? I LOVE how big it sounds; thanks for the great demo of such a slept on amp!
It’s been such a long time that I don’t remember all the details (I didn’t think to take note of it at the time), but as I recall, I used a 2x12 cabinet with Eminence Cannabis Rex speakers with a SM57 on the center of one of the cones. I used a stereo reverb in the DAW and I think I also used a stereo spreader plugin.
@@solidstateappreciation No problem at all man! I really appreciate the rundown on your speakers / microphones and that reverb! As someone who's struggling with recording guitar, I really really appreciate it; thanks again!!!
Just picked one of these up. I’m finding that the effects channel sounds like it has the effects happening behind a clean overtone, as if the whole signal is not being affected and is just playing underneath the regular sound, and I need them cranked to hear it. Tremolo, distortion and fuzz all the same thing. Any idea what could be wrong? It’s like that for either effect input and when it try the blended inputs. Thanks! Love your videos!
@@solidstateappreciation ok phew! Might just need to clean the pots and get it up 100% then. Thank you for the answer! Have an old standard 260 too, love these old gems.
hey my dude. i picked up one of these today same make and model you have pictured with the original cab. still has the round ball wheels on it. Ive never messed with a 2ohm amp or cab before so i have a few questions. I have 2 16 ohm marshall cabs. Can I run both of them at the same time with this amp?
You could re-wire each marshall cab for 4 ohms, then run them both into the amp for a 2 ohm load, but it will make you deaf. You can also run them both together for 8 ohms, but the amp will have reduced output. I definitely find that these old solid state amps like being run around 4 ohms.
Yep, that was the original Molly Hatchet. We were all looking for something better in the day, but, we shouldn't forget its legacy. But, good Lord.... what watts....

Smokin The Day Away, great choice in riff

Thank you. Now people can see why josh and Troy both use two of these as their main tour amps for qotsa
For real haha? Now I'm getting one
When I saw em back in 2018 Josh was using a late model Peavey Standard, the one with a master volume control. Troy had a Musician 400 though
Is that a Night Sun riff I hear?!

It sounds like your fuzz is working properly, peavey designed it to blend a fuzzy signal in with your clean signal. Kind of an unusual idea for sure.

Usually the most common repair is replacing the power capacitors. Depending on the age of the amp it may also need a grounded power cord etc.

Can I use this amp on 4-16ohms bugera cab?

Why is the clean channel not bleeding over to the distortion channel like all the other ones. Do you have volume cranked?
How did you get the distortion or fuzz to work?
I didn’t use those amp effects in the video (I don’t think either of them sound particularly great), but they will work without the footswitch.
The riff at 40 seconds, where it from? I can’t place it! Thanks, dig the video!
That is the main riff from “Smokin’ the Day Away” by May Blitz. Really great 70s psych/prog album.
How do you use the parallel and in series Jack's?
Shibboleth Burden They work like a regular guitar input, you just plug into one of them and you can run both channels at once in series or parallel.
how is the amp working when nothing is plugged into it?
I wonder if the actual Steve Winwood is this dumb?
Hell Yeah !!!
Is that reverb the built in spring?
The amp does have spring reverb, but for the demo I just used reverb from the DAW.
