He's very focused and mature. He's bringing that non american attitude about the league. American media wants to make it seem as if sports are bigger than life. All that success/failure narrative. Euro players are not like that, they pay no attention to the noise, just put their heads down and play ball. He's going to be in the perfect environment in SA. Let's just give this kid room and time to grow as we did with Embiid and Giannis, and he will flourish into a dominant player for sure. His mind is in the right place for it.

I think what gives Europeans such a detached attitude is the popularity of basketball in Europe. Especially in France, here the French basketball players are not big stars that we idolize etc. So from what I understand from the USA, even the high school players are stars and known across the country. This environment is bad for young people. This is in my opinion one of the reasons for the progression of non-American players in recent years. I would like to have American opinions on this subject :)
This interview is now 8 months ago and Victor's development in every aspect in that time period is just INSANE!!! GOAT in the making. Stay tuned and we will have a new GOAT debate very soon. One L🤍VE from your neighbors in Switzerland. Bonne chance.
Congratulations to his parents and coaches. Here we have a young man that can have a successful life outside sports. His mind and attitudes are beyond his age; he sounds respectful and grateful to his parents and coaches.... In other words... he is a good listener.... We need more of that in these days, in sports and in society in general. All this, aside from his sports skills.. AWESOME.... Welcome to the world Victor Wembanyama.. ! ! !
Basketball aside, props to this young man's family. He clearly had a great upbringing to be so thoughtful, mature, and well-spoken at such a young age with so much pressure and noise surrounding his basketball talent.
Yeah I’m excited to see what Wemby has to offer. The way he thinks, speaks, and moves is literally years ahead of his time. I won’t make comparisons out of respect for his individuality and overall unique structure but I’m definitely pulling for him to have a great career Edit: I’m also happy asl he’s going to the spurs because he’s too mature for the hornets, rockets, pistons, & Trail Blazers lol and I’m a Nets fan
As a french who didn't watch basketball, I start watching it because of Wemby's hype. Football is still my number one obviously but this kid already can change people hobbies. I will root for him and his good health
The amount of pressure thats on this kid right now at the age of 19 is wild. 1st pick in the draft, representing a country, have sky high expectations put on you, being given the keys to an NBA franchise. Nothing but luck towards this young man.
Exceptional. I want nothing more for this man to but to stay as healthy as possible for his career. He’s simply a special person and could be an all time player.
I got a ticket for his 2nd game in Vegas and it was outrageous how skilled he is. He's got the ball in his hands as a PG one moment, hitting a 30 footer, a turnaround fade on the baseline, or finding guys for an assist, the next moment he's under the rim blocking shots, rebounding, and being heavily disruptive on D. He's also an EXCELLENT free throw shooter from what I saw so good luck trying to ever get away with a "Hack-A-Shaq" like gameplay. With all that said, what I thought was most impressive is that after the game, he went over to one side of the court (opposite where I was sitting) and took photos/talked to the fans. Seems like a genuinely great kid. I think also the reason he's so good is probably because he doesn't shut it down at any point. I hope he continues with that work ethic and attitude. It's refreshing to see some effort in this day and age where everyone seems to just be wanting to collect an easy paycheck or engage in BS load management during the regular season. I say take the Ohtani route and if he wants to play or thinks he's capable, let him do what he wants as long as he's not feeling any pain. I think he will majorly excel in the NBA not only because of his physical gifts, but also his approach to the game. Best of luck Victor and enjoy the NBA!
I'm so happy to see such a young talent man to be so mature and wise. It's still early to tell on what he has to offer and if he is true to his words. But the way he presents himself and being humble until he shows everyone his resume first it's so rare. Perfect player for the spurs
As a french Spurs fan it's so exciting to see this young man coming to SA ! And it's also kinda funny to see all those "old Spurs fans" that were nowhere to be seen for the last 4 years showing up today saying "WE" got Wemby, where were you while Devin, Keldon, Tre, and Keita and friends were fighting through hard times ? ;)
@@jordannietos Defo ! I'm still a bit concerned by the lack of shooting 3's at the PG position (and I love Tre, he's an absolute competitor) but the roster is taking shape 😎
34:44 Exactly what Jokic learned when he started doing one-legged shots with his right foot. Now known as the Sombour Shuffle. Dude was having left ankle pains so he started making one legged shots with his right and found it natural to his motion
Really impressed by Victor in this interview. Very thoughtful in his responses and clearly has the mindset of a player you want to build around. San Antonio is the perfect place for him because there’s an organization and coach that knows how to handle a talent of this caliber. As a beleaguered Wizards fan, I highly doubt any other organization in a lottery position would’ve been properly equipped to put him in the best possible position to succeed.
An equally impressive answer, paraphrased: "Yes I want to win every game next year, but more importantly I want to learn HOW to win, ASAP." That's dangerous.
That's what they said about every European players coming in the NBA . And now Europeans are dominating. Tony Parker was called soft and he lead the spurs with Duncan and Pop , HOF Finals MVP etc etc
@@matthieusaade3616to be fair, he's the only french player that wasn't a softie :) and a spurs version of Diaw. So basically, if you're french, go to spurs :)
The Spurs, an elite organizational group to influence his mindset. He reminds me of TD and TP mixed together, he’s uniquely confident within himself, and seemingly as dedicated to the craft of learning as, Tim Duncan was. He’s got some moxie, and people are going to want to play hard for this guy.
I think we can safely say that he won't be recording himself on Instagram holding a gun in a strip club, and probably won't have pornstars threatening to leak tapes lol
Its amazing that we can get to know young players through social media and podcasts. It gives another level of connection from fans and allows the players to be seen as people instead of products.
Damn, as smart and thoughtful as he is translating in his head, I can't wait to hear him in interviews as he gets fluent. Kid is clearly brilliant as well as talented
I’m absolutely impressed of how well spoken and smart this guy is. 19 years old and speaks like a man. Also it shows the mentality difference between European and American kids, where the first are humble and focused while the second cares mostly about their image and clout. Best of luck Victor!
@@zachadam8572 Look at Giannis, Jokic and this kid mentality and compare them to the American gangsta rap culture of the USA. I’m sorry you got offended by that, but it’s just a fact. I could have avoided to talk about the American dudes but can be a good point to start to speak about this problem.
I really like the guy, no offense to usa but you can tell he's european by how humble, well spoken and not flashy he is. Hoping he is healthy annd makes europe proud
This young man’s spirit is so special. His maturity in all of his interviews makes the American culture and educational system so obviously underdeveloped. Grown men interviewing a young man, seemingly less evolved. Mind blowing.

His mind is in the right place for it.
he's not Euro, Europeans are White, he's African that's from Europe, big difference...
@@JoWasHere79 What are you on about? He's born and raised in France. He's French, he's European and that's all possible while having African ancestry (though his father only btw).
@@JoWasHere79WTF why you speak like racist lol IS mom IS white and french and his born in France for you curry LeBron mj are not américain because they are black? WTF you are sick man of race lol accept the true Victor IS french lol like lebron IS american
@@zeb-zebas a American, you’re spot on bro
The only thing that worries me, is the fanbase and media not giving this brilliant young man the space he might need.
Pop will carve that space out if need be.
The Spurs aren't the fan base to be concerned with for that!
the fans will be there
Literally getting compared to lebron and mj because he’s tall that’s so much to live up to lol
@@Prestiginiinot because he’s tall bro because of his unlimited potential
This interview is now 8 months ago and Victor's development in every aspect in that time period is just INSANE!!!
GOAT in the making. Stay tuned and we will have a new GOAT debate very soon.
One L🤍VE from your neighbors in Switzerland.
Bonne chance.
Vic not counting the last 3 Star wars movies as valid ones already made him my favorite rookie
Really think it was planned to have Wemby with Pop. It’s for the best, he will learn quickly how to win in the NBA. Great kid!
tbh I rather have it planned that have players go to wack to some franchise that waste away talent
not to mention duncan will be around to help him out too!
Nah and Tupac isnt alive nor did that submarine rejoin ghosts of the titanic,if a roach crawl across the floor yall think it's a conspiracy
Basketball aside, props to this young man's family. He clearly had a great upbringing to be so thoughtful, mature, and well-spoken at such a young age with so much pressure and noise surrounding his basketball talent.
And half way through the season he’s having one of the best rookie seasons of all time, what a gem
Yeah I’m excited to see what Wemby has to offer. The way he thinks, speaks, and moves is literally years ahead of his time. I won’t make comparisons out of respect for his individuality and overall unique structure but I’m definitely pulling for him to have a great career
Edit: I’m also happy asl he’s going to the spurs because he’s too mature for the hornets, rockets, pistons, & Trail Blazers lol and I’m a Nets fan
His way of thinking aligns perfectly with Pop...
As a french who didn't watch basketball, I start watching it because of Wemby's hype.
Football is still my number one obviously but this kid already can change people hobbies.
I will root for him and his good health
pareil c'est la premiere fois ou je suis vraiment interesse a la draft et au basket
The amount of pressure thats on this kid right now at the age of 19 is wild. 1st pick in the draft, representing a country, have sky high expectations put on you, being given the keys to an NBA franchise.
Nothing but luck towards this young man.
The scary thing is he would have looked 10 X smarter and 20 X wiser if he had spoken in French.
Lol fr fr... but even if he did and people could understand, 80% of humanity is too dumb to even grasp how smart he is
Fr bro, I speak french and watched almost all his french interviews. He's wise beyond his years and well surrounded by his family
His English and ability to express himself is actually better than a lot of people I grew up with who are native English Speakers XD
Are you in the top 20 percent thats smart enough? I wish I could be as smart as you
@@natedogg890 He said that he wanted to be in the NBA, so he learned English to be able to communicate well. Which is so far sighted.
Thank you. Brilliant. Simply Brilliant. I watch after the 1rst nba season... so insightful 😊❤
I'm so happy to see such a young talent man to be so mature and wise. It's still early to tell on what he has to offer and if he is true to his words. But the way he presents himself and being humble until he shows everyone his resume first it's so rare. Perfect player for the spurs
When he said he doesn't know anything so he will be humble, curious, & learn 😢 I damn near shed a tear 😅
99.9% of the world population know everything, fight everything, and learn nothing.
As a french Spurs fan it's so exciting to see this young man coming to SA !
And it's also kinda funny to see all those "old Spurs fans" that were nowhere to be seen for the last 4 years showing up today saying "WE" got Wemby, where were you while Devin, Keldon, Tre, and Keita and friends were fighting through hard times ? ;)
I love Keldon he was a trooper. Glad he's not gonna have to hard carry anymore and get some help.
Sombor* shuffle.
Man I didn’t appreciate JJ when he played but he’s a hell of a sports analyst
An equally impressive answer, paraphrased: "Yes I want to win every game next year, but more importantly I want to learn HOW to win, ASAP." That's dangerous.
Y’all are goated for securing this ahead of the draft
He couldn't have landed in a better home than the Spurs, best of luck to him in his career!
He’s going to be special
He’s from France he’s going to be SOFT AS CHARMIN TOLIET PAPER
@@CiauskhaleesiWell provide evidence that he’s soft, let’s see data or you’re wrong which one is it🙃
That's what they said about every European players coming in the NBA .
@@matthieusaade3616tony parker was half american. Look at his last name ffs. Does Parker sounds french to ya?
The Spurs, an elite organizational group to influence his mindset. He reminds me of TD and TP mixed together, he’s uniquely confident within himself, and seemingly as dedicated to the craft of learning as, Tim Duncan was. He’s got some moxie, and people are going to want to play hard for this guy.
This 19 year old kid has a better head on his shoulders than my 30+ year old self. He’s going to go very far in life.
Félicitations JJ d'avoir pu réaliser la première vraie interview US de Victor
How could we be so blessed to have this man 🙏🏾 it’s still unbelievable!
I think we can safely say that he won't be recording himself on Instagram holding a gun in a strip club, and probably won't have pornstars threatening to leak tapes lol
Its amazing that we can get to know young players through social media and podcasts. It gives another level of connection from fans and allows the players to be seen as people instead of products.
love how humble big wemby is. you can tell they enjoyed talking with him
Damn, as smart and thoughtful as he is translating in his head, I can't wait to hear him in interviews as he gets fluent.
Now try doing that in a foreign language :D
@@erich3784 yeah he speaks incredibly well and normally French people doesn’t.
In Europe we have Wembeanyama mentality, in USA Ja morant’s 🔫🔫🔫🔫
You dont find it a bit odd that you couldn’t compliment this kid without disparaging american kids?
@@zachadam8572 Look at Giannis, Jokic and this kid mentality and compare them to the American gangsta rap culture of the USA.
I’m sorry you got offended by that, but it’s just a fact.
I could have avoided to talk about the American dudes but can be a good point to start to speak about this problem.
@@8OttoDix8 well said ! 100 percent agree,, the gangsta look and act is destroying kids globally not only in the us
I can’t tell anyone why but you guys have the best interviews/content with your guests… this sit down with the youngen will go viral
Welcome to Spurs Victor Wembanyama , such a humble respectful guy, he’s going to shine in the NBA 👏👏👏👏👏🌟
7’ 4” Paul Sartre has come to the league. What a time to be alive
This podcast will go down in history as one of the most legendary podcasts
As a Spurs fan I love to see all the positive comments on Wembys future, the complete opposite from instagram.
We need one of these every year!
How could you not fall in love with Victor Wembanyama after this interview?
Imagine being 19 and giving this level of interview in a foreign language...
Goated Interview by JJ and Tommy 👑 Congratulations on grabbing the first interview and bodying it too.
Also I believe the hype. Haven’t seen a single full game yet but his mindset is incredibly mature and focused. It seems like the people around him are protecting him and keeping him focused
The way he talks and gets his ideias across is remarkable. Specialy coming from France
This was so enjoyable. Thanks JJ! Victor Wembanyama seems more evolved than the rest of us. I can't wait to see him play.
This is how I wish I could wake up every morning and enjoy my first hour of the day. The interview...phenomenal. The interviewer....amazing. The interviewee... words can't describe him... ty JJ and Tommy for this gem. Can't wait for next season and to watch this amazing young man's career unravel in front of my eyes. Truly became a big fan of Victor and I'm not a Spurs fan one bit but I'm so happy Victor will be taught this life of an NBA professional by the best in the business. Let's hope Pop is ready for the task of shaping this young man's career
Super well composed for someone of his age. He’ll fit in perfectly with the Spurs culture.
Wow this is huge for this podcast. This will go down in history. New media taking over…
seems like a great young dude, all the best to vic for his journey in the nba.
His beyond his years outlooks on life and maturity are not compatible with NY LA Miami lifestyles.
He's perfect for SA and Texas. Welcome Victor
Vic is trully unique. He's like this Giant Artist who happens to play basketball. His creativity has no limits on the court and the Spurs should be a perfect environment for him to thrive and express his talent!
Wemby has a good head on him. Firm mindset and seems unfazed by the preposterous pressure put on him. Look forward to seeing him prosper.
I REALLY REALLY hope Vic stays healthy and succeeds in the NBA because he looks so promising and exciting.
Man he's so well spoken and has a great head on his shoulders. Him in San Antonio is a perfect match
Coming back to this at the end of his rookie year is surreal
Love JJ’s insistence on the totem question. “.. yeah yeah but seriously let’s get back to inception.” Love your work JJ and Tommy! Been fun to see you progress from the early days of the JJ pods. Let’s get JJ in as the next Spurs coach when Pop retires. You’ve already got chemistry w the star 😂
the words composed and level headed jump right out. the perfect teachable mind it's gonna be a fun ride Pops
I’m french, it’s been 4 years that I watch I’m… trust me… if he stays healthy… you’re not ready… his progression is crazy, and under Pop staff, I can’t imagine on what he can turn on
So excited this guy is going to my team. I just really hope he stays healthy
Hadn’t really heard him talk before this interview; really impressed with this kid. Makes me excited for the future of the NBA
VICTOR!!!!! We can’t wait bro, you’re gonna do great things!!!! GO SPURS GO
Great interview, thanks! He know what's he doing. And he's really mature for his age.
I wish the best for Wembanyama, success!
Very impressed with this kid. He has all the tools to be a superstar
This guy is my age (19) and never have I seen someone so emotionally intelligent and mature for his age. Can’t wait to watch this guy for the next 10-20 years.
Only JJ would interview one of the best prospects ever and explain a Christopher Nolan movie to him 😂
PRAYING FOR VICTOR’S HEALTH THROUGHOUT HIS ENTIRE CAREER GENUINELY.
HAS A CHANCE TO BE ONE OF THE GREATEST, I WANT HIM TO WIN SO BAD!!!
It's crazy that the man interviewing him was a professional basketball player because the size difference is unreal
JJ's podcast is the gold standard of basketball talks. Can't wait for Wemby interview Part 2 after he wins the ROTY.
He loves art, works hard, talks about being free in the universe, and casually quotes Spider-Man. I love this guy
Good Luck to Wemby! The whole basketball world is rooting for you.
No one can say for sure whether he will reach his insane potential in the NBA and be able to stay healthy for the long term. One thing we can say with confidence after watching this interview: you will not be seeing Victor waving guns around on the gram when he's 23. There's a good head on top of those ridiculously high shoulders.
Only god can judge …everybody’s path is different my guy …ppl grow up different and it takes time for people to understand life and their gameplan to succeed in this reality …Peer pressure and social media are two different things that eras in the past didn’t deal with so in a sense this era of youngsters are Guinea pigs to technology but God will give each person an opportunity to grow and learn ..this is real life bro ppl go through things
I'm so excited to see Victor play next year! I've watch his game and his height and skillset are incredible. I'm hoping he can stay healthy through out his career and be part of something special for years to come as a player.
I have a feeling the hype is real. Hope we get to watch this guy be great
The Nba literally set this up perfectly… no center in spurs history has ever had consistent injury problems. I don’t think we can compare this kid to any big before him.. I think he will for sure be a top 5 player in this league and a generational talent
Glad he’s coming here to SA! Vic Wembanyama A.K.A. “The Future” 🏀
What an incredibly professional and humble guy. Very excited for his career. He really gives me hope for the new NBA generation
