I may just a regular person but i want to learn about smartphone photography and thinking about upgrading my phone to pro i but I don’t want to miss some selfie. In the latest review of another xperia series their selfie camera still not good enough so i kinda concern
This was the first pro i video that made me NOT want to upgrade to the 1V. Ive had the Pro i about a month and was really bummed that it overheated after about 3 mins of recording in 99° Texas heat. The more efficient power consumption of the 1V is the only upgrade im excited about.
Pretty good video. I know many people are talking about the crop. And the crop is real but in the other hand a good shooter/editor will do the best out of this camera or any other camera for that matter.
You are a professional man, you really know the capabilities of the Sony camera phone. A professional review and one of the best review I've seen for Xperia pro i phone Subscribe to your channel for this.
Nice review! I'm getting into vlogging etc. I love Sony phones (in America... Yes I'm an odd one) and have the Xperia 5ii and love it. I'm giving it to my mom and debating hard on getting the Pro-I vs the 1iii. I actually like the 5ii size and have been waiting for the 5iii. Thoughts?
The VLOG MONITOR combo pack of the XPERIA PRO-I will make vlogging easier. The screen is really nice! And the rear mic is also very good as you can hear from this video. On the post side of things, for now, I've still yet to find a decent video editing app for android so editing VLOGS on the device itself is a bit of a challenge. Luckily, we can offload the footage to the microSD and edit on a computer. Lumafusion, a popular iOS editing app, is supposedly coming to Android so it should make life a lot easier.
I'll wait for the next Pro I if I were you. Because next time Sony will have the few features that was missed on Pro-I like the wireless charging and dynamic refresh rate. Also they could decide to throw that Samsung sensor in the front and use a Sony sensor. Might even come with 5000mAh battery too. I am glad I didn't jump on Xperia 1 and I was rewarded with 1ii that had everything the Xperia 1 missed. So I'll wait for the next PRO Sony
But saying it's "niche" is discounting how many people would enjoy it. Sure...it's not a mainstream phone. You are right about that. But the "niche" you speak of still includes photographers, videographers, vloggers, and hobbyists/enthusiasts into photography. And that is a sizable niche. If anything SONY is being very smart in catering specific phones to communities of interest, and professionals. Of which there actually are a lot of said people underserved by mainstream phones made to be a jack of all trades but a master of none. As well as the increasing number of basic features being removed from phones. And its clearly working given SONY's growing smartphone sales by 30% for three financial quarters running now. Plus it's just smart for SONY to do their own thing and provide a unique experience. There is really no point in trying to be an iphone or Galaxy. Those are already good at what they do. You can't succeed trying to copy what someone else is good at. You have focus on doing what you are good at.
@@Sabundy Thanks for sharing! Love to discuss this with you 😊 I agree with a lot of things, but still it's a niche product also because of its price point. It's definitely not for mainstream enthousiasts or photographers or videographers. I think the niche group is the pro level or people with a decent income. Definitely not mainstream.
@@GaryJahman to be honest, Sony is the only Tech Giant that can charge big money 💵 for their products when they want. Because lesser tech companies like Samsung and Apple who are nowhere near Sony when you look at history and innovations charge well over 1000 for their devices. So a company like SONY should charge much more to maintain exclusivity. My freaking Mustang GT is faster than a 25yr old Ferrari. Has more comfort and features. Do you think you could compare the prices?
Hi are you doing sir thank you for your good tutorial on this phone. I purchased this phone and how do I set the phone for 120 frames a second video and do it work for all the apps.
If possible can you please compare the edited photos from the Sony Xperia i & iPhone 13 Pro ? Bcos its not fair to compare edited pics of Sony with unedited pics of iPhone 13 pro. So if possible do this test. A lot of people are waiting for this. Thank you
Amazing photos. I remember Panasonic made a phone with an one inch sensor but somehow that never caught on. I recall there’s supposed to be a feature of using the phone as a streaming hub that can be attached to big cameras. Did they change their mind?
Given that you can edit the picture right away without having to transfer from an SD card.. would this be a good stand alone camera over a rx100 of any sort? … I understand there’s a significant price difference, the only thing that attracts me to it other than also being a phone is the ability to edit and post somewhere all in one package
I too enjoy this aspect so I would say yes! Though keep in mind, the 24mm is the only lens with the 1in sensor backing on the XPERIA PRO I where as with an RX100, you have a solid range (24-70mm or 24-200mm from the RX100m7) Otherwise, the 16mm + 50mm on the XPERIA PRO-I are also decent enough to edit with as well. A lot of my favorite photos from Paris ended up being w/ the 50mm. Hope this helped!
The most impressive with it, no it’s the 1inch sensor but his AF… I shoot with my 12 Pro Max and, if a kid run, i got blurry results … 20is and 4k120 is impressive too. I Hope an version 2 in the future around 1400$ and i will send my iPhone 12 Pro Max
If Sony captures a top 5 market share, they will price their 5 series in 800$ bracket, 1 series in 1000$ bracket and PRO series in 1300-1500$ bracket. For now with current market share they have to be super aggressive and expensive to turn profits and that's working for them.
Great review along with some beautiful shots! Any chance you have another Xperia phone that you could try the vlog monitor with? Sony says the monitor will only work with this phone but curious if someone has tried it on other phones.
Truly amazing review and photos. I would have bought the Sony Xperia pro-I if I saw your video before I bought Google phone. Any way you should do quick tutorial in how you edit the photos of this phone and using the phone.
Is this phone camera able to replace a Sony a6600 for example in terms of photo quality and printing sizes, I'm hoping one day i will only need my phone to take high resolution, sharp, quality photos that i could print to say A3 /A2 size and sell professionally, currently i have the sony a7r iv which is about as good as it gets for extra large, high resolution, clear prints, but often i have to almost plan to bring the camera with me, which as we all know you will more likely find that special shot accidentally whilst carrying just your mobile phone. There's definitely a gap in the market for a mobile phone with a professional camera, larger size sensor, or even a compact ff camera, like the a7c with, perhaps a slimmer version with a phone device built in to it. Id be happy to carry around a lump of a phone to have a pro camera.
would this record good rock concert footage. ive tried galaxy s20 it was terrible thought about getting the s22 i like samsung over iphone but i don't know. this phone seems like it could do the job. my top reasons to buy a phone for video especially concert recording the phone jack the sd card the battery
do you have any idea if the monitor from the pro-1 would work on the xperia 1iii? I bought it a month before this one came out and love it so won't be trading up any time soon. I'd love to be able to use the monitor for vlogging though if possible on my phone.
Okay so no stereo microphone? Also is there any optical and sensor stabilization? Finally for those of us in 50hz Pal land is there a 50/100 frames per second option? My current Android forces me to 30/60 and as such lights cause strobing effects which I wouldn't accept from this Xperia's price tag
Hello Jason, thank you for sharing the video. It's great! Can you please tell me how to take a timelapse recording with the Sony Xperia Pro-I? Thank you ;-)
I haven’t tried it myself yet but Drew Geraci found an app called Manual Camera app and was able to do Timelapse with it! Looks great! Check out his channel for it when you get the chance
I really wish that Sony would add a log profile to their Cinema Pro app. I don't want to buy a third party app like Filmic Pro to get it especially since Sony advertises the Xperia line as a smartphone for filmmakers and photographers. Jason, please pass the request to Sony for a log profile in their Cinema Pro app next time you communicate with them. 🙂
Most people would prefer Iphone or samsung, but the problem with their camera is that Ai decides everything for you, making night into day shots is not really realistic is it? Dark areas are meant to stay dark, and not over brightened all the time.
Great video Jason I just wish Sony could figure out a way so the phone would integrate better in a MacOS workflow, ie. wireless photo transfer like Apple AirPlay.
Really impressive smartphone. But some photos do look better without editing tbh. Often the orange, yellow touch is way to much and it looks like HDR Fake.
Hi..great video..i owned xperia 1 iii and rx100 vii, i am planning to sell both and get xperia pro i. It would be very practical carrying one device that xperia 1 iii can do and 1 inch sensor of rx 100 vii.But i am still hesitate to do so, do u think pro i can replace rx100 vii in term photography? your advice will be much appreciated. Thanks.. :)
that's hard to say since the RX100 VII has focal lengths beyond 50mm. The whole lens is backed by the 1" sensor as opposed to just the 24mm on the PRO-I. I'd prefer the RX100 VII more. However, if you find yourself shooting 24mm often (wide) over tele often, the PRO-I can be a great solo device for photography!
@@JasonVong Finally, after I saw your video and photo were very tempting. I decide to sell and purchase the PRO I, besides the amazing quality of picture produce I agree with you the practicality that makes me decide to get PRO I, the ability to capture, edit and sent in the same time with one device. And do you mind I asking on how you capture timelapse using PRO I? once again..thanks..
@@Stan-jx3zt I haven’t tried it myself yet but Drew Geraci found an app called Manual Camera app on the Play Store and he was able to make an amazing Timelapse. Check out his channel for it when you get the chance!
What apps support its live-streaming capabilities, if you’ve tested any? I love Sony’s αlpha system and this phone looks really capable. For the price, it would mean quite an investment into a such niche system. Also, really expensive as a second phone and no trade in discounts. Price has to come down before I’d take a chance on it. Maybe a great option for those with money to burn or for non owners of already expensive mirrorless cameras.
Streamlabs have been working the best for me as it can actually detect the different camera inputs from the XPERIA! However, the VLOG MONITOR only works Sony's photo/video pro app.
Well, what you fail to mention is absolutely unacceptable background "jumping"/"freezing" during videos - seems to be an issue with OIS. Some other vlogers actually pointed this out - I think it would be fair to mention drawbacks of this camera, you only talk about pros :)
Really great shots, sir - thanks for the views. I definitely have this device on my radar. I'm also waiting to see what the Xperia 1 IV looks like... I wonder if the Pro-I will upgrade to Android 12 soon as well... I've been using A12 since the betas, so I'm quite accustomed to the changes now, I don't think I'd like to go back to A11. Nonetheless, a great device. I'm tempted!
Awesome video, can't wait to shoot more with this, however I'm running in to overheating warnings popping up on the camera apps, it also runs pretty hot in general use :( such a lush phone though. Do you get overheating issues?
@@JasonVong 1. Battery life at 120hz screen mode (even at 60 not good) 2. Sometimes not enough screen brightnes, especially on the sun or snow around you. You can't do correct exposure. 3. Have no macro-mode on 16mm lens(as iPhone and Galaxy) Now I'm thinking how it's critical for me)
Your explanation of the sensor crop is just plain wrong. A 12MP sensor of the exact same size as the area Sony uses for this phone would behave exactly the same as this and there is no benefit using a bigger sensor other than Sony getting to use sensors they already make. I get that they couldn't make a lens this close to the sensor that covers it, but stating that there are benefits to the bigger sensor is just PR bs....
@@silva_br1 it is true for the noobs and rightly so. In my country iPhone is 2x the price and Sony is even more expensive. 3300$ for the Pro I with import tax and etc. iPhone 13 Pro Max 512 is 2100$. But I don't buy with vendors. I buy from online stores from different countries that ship it as gifts circumvent import TAX so I get the proper MSRP. Those who can't learn the world workings go pay the stupid inflated prices with taxes. Even in Dubai when 1iii was launched, Amazon had it for 1900$ where as you can import from Hong Kong for MSRP$1300. If you know how, then it's epz

Is the Venice profile no good? Looks like a form of log to me but I don’t own the camera.
@@realMDizzy The Venice profile is the flattest color profile they have but it's not really as flat as a log profile could be.
Sony (or someone like Momentum) should make a snap on lens system specifically for the main camera. That would be friking amazing.
👍 👍 Muy buen video genial
Most people would prefer Iphone or samsung, but the problem with their camera is that Ai decides everything for you, making night into day shots is not really realistic is it? Dark areas are meant to stay dark, and not over brightened all the time.
Question, does the zhiyun crane m3 software work with the pro I? Cause as of now my a7c isn't compatible yet
Hi Jason, do you know if the monitor kit works with alpha camear or not? could be a decent little monitor to use
Strange I thought I answered this already. No it does not work with anything else but the PRO-I
Sony XPERIA PRO-I-II should be my purchase
what a name! haha
You think that vlog monitor will work on the older xperia 1 models?
Only works with the XPERIA PRO-I afaik. I tried it on last year's XPERIA PRO and it doesn't detect it.
As a keen photographer i cannot wait to get this phone, to replace my old p30 pro
why not the external mic directly into the sony xperia instead of into the vlogging monitor? wtf XD
Great video Jason I just wish Sony could figure out a way so the phone would integrate better in a MacOS workflow, ie. wireless photo transfer like Apple AirPlay.
Sony has its own ecosystem. You should start using.
@@arcsephiroth Sony does not sell desktops or Tablets that I know of.
How about I buy this phone and A7C+zeiss 55mm so that I got 24 mm and 55 mm looks.
That could work! I've done a bit of that during my time in Paris. 24mm with the XPERIA PRO-I and the Tamron 35-150mm on the a7S III.
Can this shoot 120fps on the 16mm lens?
Unfortunately no. Capped at 30 😭
So why all the disappointed reviews I've seen, so that it deterred me from purchasing it.
Their recent announcement of a new model has me excited.
Really impressive smartphone. But some photos do look better without editing tbh. Often the orange, yellow touch is way to much and it looks like HDR Fake.
Made in which country?
Sony is japan
Good job. 👍
@@JasonVong thank you..
this or sony rx100 mark 7?
I'd push ya towards an RX100M7 since you get a whole array of focal lengths backed by the one inch sensor VS just the 24 on the PRO-I.
@@JasonVong I’m scared to pull the trigger to buy the RX100 M7 cause M8 might come out.
Next time you head to Paris, DM me.
Very Nice and honest test. Very capable caméra but very expensive. You can buy Sony A7III for this money / Or Panasonic G9 + lens + SD card + Tripod
no problem! thanks for watching! :)
Sure you can.. But can you ring off it? Do e everything else a smartphone can do?
Really great shots, sir - thanks for the views. I definitely have this device on my radar. I'm also waiting to see what the Xperia 1 IV looks like... I wonder if the Pro-I will upgrade to Android 12 soon as well... I've been using A12 since the betas, so I'm quite accustomed to the changes now, I don't think I'd like to go back to A11. Nonetheless, a great device. I'm tempted!
needs a great selfie camera fr that price
Well done 👍🏾
thank you!
Awesome video, can't wait to shoot more with this, however I'm running in to overheating warnings popping up on the camera apps, it also runs pretty hot in general use :( such a lush phone though. Do you get overheating issues?
SLOG?
its not in there :(
the price :OOO
Amazing video
Thank you!
Amazing video! Thank you so much. It helps me to buy Pro-I again. I completely sorry for sold my first one...
??? Why did you sell it the first time?
@@JasonVong
1. Battery life at 120hz screen mode (even at 60 not good)
2. Sometimes not enough screen brightnes, especially on the sun or snow around you. You can't do correct exposure.
3. Have no macro-mode on 16mm lens(as iPhone and Galaxy)
Now I'm thinking how it's critical for me)
Shame the Sony vlog mount isn't a gimbal because the stabilisation on the Xperia is awful.
Just put a small mirror on the backside of phone for vlogging. Instead of buying the extra screen
I truly appreciate your immense work but oh my sweet lord almighty why use a white background to showcase the pictures whyyy 👾👾
U real pro
I almost asked every youtuber, but no one answered me ...could you please tell me that vlogging monitor works with pixel 6 pro...!!!?
Only works with sony… sorry 😢
How about you selff your pixel and buy sony
iPhone 13 pro Max Pro Res vs one Sony boiiii.
Who needs PRO smartphones? REAL PRO needs PRO - PRO! 😆
2 times the price of Zv1 or Zev10.
Phone was given many features these two do not have.
Also, it works as cellphone as well.
ZV1 can do a phone call? Or using google chrome? 🤨
Girlfriend? Dude I always thought she was your wife. Put a ring on it. She's wonderful.
make that lady your wife in2022. God bless you both 🙏
Amen
Your explanation of the sensor crop is just plain wrong. A 12MP sensor of the exact same size as the area Sony uses for this phone would behave exactly the same as this and there is no benefit using a bigger sensor other than Sony getting to use sensors they already make. I get that they couldn't make a lens this close to the sensor that covers it, but stating that there are benefits to the bigger sensor is just PR bs....
It's 1" type. It's not even close to 1" . Measure it 😆
😊😊😊😊❤❤❤
Unless you plan to make movies with this thing super over priced
In some locations, for this price you do not even buy iphone 13 pro max 128GB.
It is true.
@@silva_br1 well Amazon UAE still price 1ii @ $1500. 1iii @ $1600. But surprisingly Pro-I is priced @ $1950 😂
Still your girl friend, need to get married Jason!!!
