Well, if they were gonna address it, relentlessly mocking Steve for not even having the decency to get a paycheck from the bad source first was probably the right way to do it.
I mean, good on Steve for taking it on the chin. For all the tin-foil hats hating on the retraction, the silence from mods, deleting of comments; etc. it does actually make me feel better that even Adam and Jesse gave Steve the "lol, how in God's name did you fall for that". I feel we've seen Dangle's content for TOO LONG to legitimately think he just sold out for an imaginary Saudi-backed league. Also, shoutout to Schlossman for the update; I live in ND and he does great reporting in the Herald
Yep I have done some digging too and apparently this guy (or atleast "businesman Max Chambers) has tried to start a pro Can-Am baseball league with severall franchises in 1991. All sort of pie-in-the-sky type of talks. That ofcourse never went anywhere either. But got some media attention and some people fell on it. Also tried to relocate CBA (basketball) team in 1990. In 1984 he was very briefly owner of 1984 SJHL Yorkton Terriers. Until financial problems arrived quickly. That man has likely done it for decades.
This was the perfect way to address the MLH situation, kudos to Steve for taking it on the chin, and you know you have a good group of buddies when they can laugh at you on a very public platform and you can all have fun with it. Good stuff!
Thank you Adam for finally acknowledging what got Reilly suspended, it was all because he skated after him to deliver the hit it’s not the same as the Sousey cross check at all.
Lost in all of this is the fact that Allan backed Steve's MLH report. I'm not the biggest fan of Allan but can't deny he has a pretty good pulse on what happens in hockey behind closed doors. So when I saw him support Steve's reporting, that's when I bought into it being real.
Lots of people had heard the same stuff but the guy trying to start it has been questionable in the past (tried to buy the Blues but nobody could validate it)
And he is wrong. He is so quick to mention rule 69, he fails to keep scrolling and see Rule 69.7 "in a rebound situation, or where a goalkeeper and attacking player(s) are simultaneously attempting to play a loose puck, whether inside or outside the crease, incidental contact will be permitted, and any goal that is scored as a result thereof will be allowed."
I would argue the rebound is happening during the incidental contact. Rewatch the play again. When Bennet hits Coyle in the back. The shot was already blocked by Swayman and was infront of Coyle and Bennett as a rebound. Now, you could argue Coyle was interfered with on the rebound by Bennett. That I could see. But that is not what was called. What was called was goaltender interference. Coyle played some terrible defense by being in the crease and being in the way of Swayman, possibly, being able to get to the other side of the net. Even if Coyle was not in the crease, Swayman's legs and knees were on the ground. He wouldn't have had time to push off on his left leg. To possibly make the save because....it was a rebound shot Bennett got off in quick succession of the hit. Again, it is not just Bennet playing off the rebound. It's the rebound, Coyle being in the crease and already blocking a potential path (fully blocked, or partially blocked) and Swayman not being in a position to quickly respond to a quick rebound due to his bodies position. It was the right call to not overturn the goal due to Bennett's hit. As much as people want to be angry at the officiating, which people can be. Playoff officiating is always horrendous. But in this instance, no. It's a good goal.
@andrewmartin6120 69.7 specifies it's incidental contact between an attacking player and the goalie. Bennett intentionally cross-checking Coyle into Swayman wouldn't fall under that. This is goalie interference in any serious league. But as we know the NHL refuses to have consistent Goalie Interference rules
Considering how ruthless the NHL was at taking down the WHA decades ago, why wouldn't the NHL absolutely crush the "MLH" league before it ever gets off the ground?
To add onto Steve's point about the players adapting if you call the rules, look no further than Brady Tkachuk complaining that he's not allowed to be a goon in the World Championships against Slovakia. Look at what happens if the officials and organization commits to not allowing the kind of ridiculous physical play that is typical in the NHL and the Tkachuk brothers make their living on. Suddenly, they're forced to play hockey and they will even if they don't want to. He hems and haws, but you know what's not happening? No one is getting sucker punched in the face in that game and staying in the game and the tournament. No one is getting cross checked in the face after the whistle. Brady isn't laying out everyone then trying to start a line brawl after every whistle. The players will adapt if you make them. It is 100% percent possible to make these plays and injuries and styles of play disappear from the NHL. They just do not want to. Imagine if a player got tossed after throwing one punch in a scrum after the whistle and then the very next play. Think anyone on the ice is gonna risk throwing that punch if they know they're out of the game for doing it and not just a 2 minute time out? There's a reason in football they do not break into spontaneous fights at the end of every play like happens in playoff hockey despite being an equally physical sport especially talking about linemen. Every single one of those players knows that they will be thrown out if they do it, and they will hurt their team and that's not worth it. Everyone else has figured it out. Even baseball! There was a fight between white sox and Guardians last year where the benches cleared and the guys fought each other. The players involved didn't go sit in a box for 5 minutes. They were suspended for 6 games each as well as the managers for a game each. The mlb embarrassed the guys that engaged in that fight instead of glorifying them for being tough guys, and as such fights are very rare in baseball now when they used to be far more common. There's your path NHL.
Yeah, Steve was definitely right about the NHL not caring about being a sports league. They care more about being the violence on ice league. I bet they even think all the talk about the referees is good for the game because "no press is bad press"
Yup. I’ve grown up around rugby my whole life, and ‘magically’, ‘somehow’, that sort of BS is rare as hen’s teeth. Because-shocker-the rules are policed and enforced. I just read a news item the other day about a player in my country being suspended for several weeks (yes, weeks) for a dangerous play. (And thus North Americans are frequently tickled pink by how polite large rugby players are to refs 😅)
@@avalnz86 I saw a clip of two rugby players getting scolded by a ref for dangerous play, and both of them promised to get their players under control. And they did. I literally cannot imagine that happening in hockey.
@@JoeMagician Ha, yes that was what I grew up thinking was just how professional sports were. Imagine my rude awakening getting into hockey a few years ago. The prevailing cultural attitude is to blame the player too, i.e. *they’ve* quite possibly left their team in a difficult position for X many games due to undisciplined/juvenile behaviour, rather than assuming the disciplining body was in the wrong.
Feel like having Adam & Jesse streaming different series has done wonders for the podcast; they’re able to fully understand what it’d like as fans of non Leafs teams beyond Twitter / TH-cam clips.
Thank you for mentioning rugby, Steve. As a newer hockey fan, and an international one who was not raised on any North American sports, I frequently roll my eyes at North American parochialism (/exceptionalism) with regards to hockey. The high standard in Rugby Union reffing is what I’ve come to expect, and the standard of reffing and player safety rulings in hockey-regardless of team, regardless of player-is the worst I’ve personally ever seen. So egregious it often feels comical, and I think it really does impact the sport’s international marketability and growth. I find I have to think of hockey as having some inherently unserious elements or I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it.
Hyman cross-checked Zadorov in the face too! Right after Soucy’s. Z had to get stitches but ZERO consequences for Hyman. The double standard is the problem. Hyman should also be suspended for a game.
Carson Soucy being suspended one game leaves you wondering why - in the same scrum, Hyman cross-checked Zadorov in the face with Zadorov needing stitches, and there is no supplemental discipline for the exact same play.
I didnt understand all the outrage to begin with, but Steve's sense of accountability is very admarirable. Love that Jesse and Adam broke his balls for it. Perfectly handled, even though it was really a non-issue.
Bruins fan in Sydney, Australia. Enjoy your informed opinions and the frustration against the refs is real. Refs are ruining games sometimes. Have a great week.
Seems fair, McDavid earned those cross checks with the over hand 2 hand slash that was ALSO after the whistle. You can’t do what big Z and Soucy did, but you also can’t do what McDavid did either.
Crazy that there’s not even a fine or acknowledgement of Hyman cross-checking Zadorov in the face on that same play, hard enough to cause him to need stitches.
@@bondageknightgael9410 Huh? Watch it again. Are you talking about the slash to Soucy's pants which is followed by Soucy's slash to McDavid's pants? Nobody with a shred of common sense is complaining about a couple slashes to the pants, those are extremely minor.
Can vouch for Steve's point about fans just leaving when they get tired of the bullshit. Reffing is a big one but also the blatant lack of morals throughout the league. Used to watch all 82 games for my team plus whichever match up was best on the west coast almost nightly. I have watched 4 games in the past 2 seasons and I usually end up changing the channel.
This is why most reporters are trained in how to verify a source. It's unfortunate Steve made this mistake, but hopefully it can be a good opportunity to learn the important of verifying information from more than one source before blasting it out to the internet as a fact
My respect for steve after that rant on the officials has absolutely sky rocketed. Good on you the sport is starting to hurt because of these officials.
Hockey has such a huge opportunity to become more of a mainstream sport in America, especially with the overwhelming success of the PWHL and the post-covid landscape benefitting sports generally and the NHL specifically, but you're absolutely right. I bet a lot of people who would otherwise enjoy hockey are one egregiously badly officiated game away from losing all fledgling interest. And I've never seen this amount of fans, offline and online, all united in pointing out how bad the officiating is across the league. Everyone feels pretty united here in their anger.
Steve for sure doesnt watch other sports because the NFL is so so much worse than the NHL. And with how awful the reffing is in that, it still manages to stay as the number 1 sports league in the world. If people are leaving hockey to go to another sport, they are going to get equally or even worse reffing than hockey.
Honestly knowing now what happened with the MLH thing, it's very understandable. Don't get me wrong, you gotta do your due diligence, but also having worked in freelance journalism (albeit in a very different part of the field), I can tell you confidently many major reporters for huge outlets don't do their due diligence, but their mistakes are often lost in the noise while their major breaking stories become their resume. Really what you've learned is what so many people learn which is you're not the type of person for breaking stories, and that's fine. I wasn't either and the only reason I didn't embarrass myself trying is because as a freelance journalist no one is going to pick up your story anyways so I'd just be nuking my career (which ended up not being much of one anyways in my case) with absolutely no benefit. As for a source screwing you over, I know that all too well. Sadly the current media sphere requires things to move fast which makes dependence on insider sources so much more important, but also means if they burn you there's very little time to see it before it's too late.
Hyman should also be suspended. He cross checked Zadorov in the face (aimed for it because height difference) and Zadorov needed stitches. But no, not even a fine for him. How am I not supposed to feel like Edmonton is receiving favourable treatment?
Much more so than Steve. Also much smarter. Steve is just a blowhard that got big in the early days of TH-cam by screeching and shrilling like a 12 year old girl on Leafs videos.
I always love Steve... I have lost my faith in the NHL... I will still follow Steve and all similar outlets, but I lost faith in NHL playoffs from here onto eternity... Either the officiating is blind and ignorant, or they are following prescribed marching orders. I don't want to believe either option... but what else is there??
Steve and Jesse, you're out to lunch on Soucy/McDavid. Comparing it to Rielly is ludicrous. Rielly went out of his way to blindside cross check Grieg when there was no physical engagement. Soucy deserves a game, but Adam is right. CMD was facing Soucy, gave him a two hander and Soucy meant to xcheck him in the chest. I agree the standard should change. For example, Rielly should have got 12 games, minimum. But you don't arbitrarily change the established standard in the middle of the playoffs.
Just want to take some time to thank all the trolls adding a bunch of extra comments to last sdpn and giving these guys the extra exposure by helping their algorithm! Appreciate it folks! Any comment is a good comment! 😂😂😂
Much respect from a bruins fan who has followed you for years. No one does Bruins analysis like SDPN. ALSO thank you for being the one smart person responding to Sweeney’s comments thinking they way he phrased his words to demand them put the refs on the stand to be questioned. Everyone was pisses he didn’t “intentionally take the fine and give them a piece of his mind” What a win would it be if we could question the refs? The biggest of all time that’s what.
Gym bro here and got to defend Steve pullups and pulldowns both primarily work the Lats. Pull downs are good accessory work or training if you struggle with pull ups.
Here’s an idea. If the NHL wants to grow in popularity, how’s about the NHL hold their officials A LOT more accountable than the NFL, NBA or MLB. Make the refs face the media after every game. Now, I also say pay them more to take on that responsibility and transparency. I’m telling you, fans of other sports will tune in knowing that officials are being held accountable…
Adam seems to be the only one who actually watched the Canucks-Oilers game, because it was on a school night. Most East Coast sports media seem to be either unaware or ignoring the big two handed slash by McDavid against Soucy before he got crosschecked. The fact that McDavid gets nothing for a huge slash is a joke. I thought Soucy would be suspended, especially after all the lobbying by TSN and Sportsnet hacks, who made it sound like McDavid was rescuing kittens when he got crosschecked out of nowhere.
Bruins fan here. Thank you for validating my opinion on that bullshit goal last night. I am just absolutely crushed man. Juat go back to 2019 where we got scored on after that blatant trip and its just like who hates us?!
Agreed, I feel like no one wants to acknowledge that Florida has just been way better. No dog in this fight btw. Other than game 1 it hasn’t been even close. Take away Bennett’s goal I’d damn near guarantee that Florida was winning that game regardless. The Bruins did absolutely nothing in the 3rd. Swayman has been unbelievable and is the only reason they weren’t swept aside in 4. Pretty sure they registered only 12 shots in two out of the 4 games, like either the Bruins are playing as bad as I’ve ever seen them or Florida is just that explosive. Maybe a bit of both
Loved the officiating discussion. Look at the Premier League (European Football), VAR has completely taken over. It seems in sports currently, atleast the ones that I personally watch, that there is no middle ground between missing everything in the rulebook (NHL) and going so far into it and using all the devices at hand that you STILL make the incorrect call (EPL).
I remember when Adam first mentioned the fake dropping puck thing and I was like what the hell. But no it's actually the stupidest thing in the world. What fuckin minigame are the refs playing just drop the puck and skate off idiots
Good on you Steve Dangle. I'm fine with watching the Bruins fall. Frankly they've been the second best team in this series, but holy crap the refs need to read their own rule book and stop "interpreting" the rules into meaning the opposite due to their feelings.
Thank you for calling out the rampant incompetence at the level it warrants. This isn't just bad what we're seeing, it's a complete and utter disaster. No one fumbles the bag quite as comically as the NHL, but at this point it almost feels like they're actively TRYING to remain a niche league. I can't imagine a single casual fan tuning in and trying to get into the league, watching these mouthbreathers in stripes not having the slightest clue how to do their job, and then thinking "hell yeah I'm gonna invest more time and money in this league".
Problem is there is not enough Refs that stick with the career or pursue hockey reffing as a career all the way up the ranks to push out some of the old biased refs from the NHL. They really need to have a greater focus on a grass roots referee program.
To Adam’s question, what’s different is that it’s NOT everything goes. That would be consistent. They’re all over the place without any rhyme or reason. Bruins got called for a ticky tack goalie interference penalty in game 3 right before Bennett was allowed to cross-check a guy right onto the goalie score. Steve used to tell the refs to pick a thing and they’ve now done the exact opposite.
boston has had a decade of refs looking the other way and now that they look the other way on them i dont have a problem with it. all things balanced out.
17:55 so McDavid should be protected just because he’s a superstar? If Gretzky was going around slashing everyone everywhere then he’d also deserve to get laid out by an enforcer. Being a star doesn’t mean do whatever you want and the league should protect you.
The league should protect its players because… its what they should do to make sure human beings dont get hurt playing in their league?? Are you stupid
Well, if they were gonna address it, relentlessly mocking Steve for not even having the decency to get a paycheck from the bad source first was probably the right way to do it.

Guys, you can't make betting tips to us after ranting about the corrupt league. Why would anyone, bet money on this league with officials like this?
A Mazda in this economy? Saudi Steve indeed, 😂😂
Adam the only non biased one on the show. Rielly play was completely different.
@steve Reminder you still have time to backtrack on your "Easton Cowan back to the OHL next year" take - complete OHL finals domination.
Unhinged Evangelist Dangle is my favorite Dangle. Great episode
Steve Dangle, the Don Cherry for the new generation
Thanks for directing us to Schlossman, guy seems to know his stuff.
I agree with Steve on this totally. Playoff hockey sucks. It is a totally different sport than the regular season.
Much respect from a bruins fan who has followed you for years. No one does Bruins analysis like SDPN.
ALSO thank you for being the one smart person responding to Sweeney’s comments thinking they way he phrased his words to demand them put the refs on the stand to be questioned. Everyone was pisses he didn’t “intentionally take the fine and give them a piece of his mind”
What a win would it be if we could question the refs? The biggest of all time that’s what.
Gym bro here and got to defend Steve pullups and pulldowns both primarily work the Lats. Pull downs are good accessory work or training if you struggle with pull ups.
Adam the voice of reason on this show. You two are on another planet today 😂😂😂
Sure, but they will never pay the refs enough to make them agree with that
Colin Campbells kid was on the bruins when they had their abomination of a stanley cup run. Nothing changes.
Huge respect to Steve for owning up to the mlh mistake
that fact the oilers have that great of a powerplay and are still losing shows how bad they are 5 on 5

Bruins fan here. Thank you for validating my opinion on that bullshit goal last night. I am just absolutely crushed man. Juat go back to 2019 where we got scored on after that blatant trip and its just like who hates us?!
The unlucky calls against the Bruins sucks but don’t let that take away how the Panthers have dominated the Bruins
The series would have been tied if they won the game.. doesn’t matter how you dominated two games. It affected the series.
@@Seegster77 all 4 games Florida has dominated, even when they lost, Florida got goalied.
@@itsyeboi631 you only dominated two games clown.

The refs mistake their role, I honestly believe they think we are all paying high ticket prices to just ... see ... them. What a joke.
I need to know what level of injury needs to be done for the NHL to care about officiating.
25:20 😂 Awesome Jesse delivery. Would’ve been a great pro-interviewer.
I remember when Adam first mentioned the fake dropping puck thing and I was like what the hell. But no it's actually the stupidest thing in the world. What fuckin minigame are the refs playing just drop the puck and skate off idiots
I think we need to see Steve do some pull-ups while explaining what muscles he's using.
Adam: "The amount of pearl clutching...." pot meet kettle lol.
Just razzing you. You handled it the right way steve.
Love ya, Steve!
Good on you Steve Dangle. I'm fine with watching the Bruins fall. Frankly they've been the second best team in this series, but holy crap the refs need to read their own rule book and stop "interpreting" the rules into meaning the opposite due to their feelings.
btw you can get do a few day in a cell for punching sombody, but doing it on the ice is not a suspension
Best show all yr steve agree 100%
Steve, that goal was fine. Unless swayman is elastic man, there is no way possible for him to save it.
He doesn’t have to make the save he needs the opportunity to save it which he wasn’t afforded from the contact
I’d love to see Adam’s nightmare situation. Ducharme as the next leafs coach, or even for him to just be interviewed lol.
As long as Kyle Dubas is a gm, former Soo Greyhound Darnell Nurse will have a place to play hockey. After all, Kyle loves his guys!
Good show guys
17:55 so McDavid should be protected just because he’s a superstar? If Gretzky was going around slashing everyone everywhere then he’d also deserve to get laid out by an enforcer. Being a star doesn’t mean do whatever you want and the league should protect you.
The league should protect its players because… its what they should do to make sure human beings dont get hurt playing in their league?? Are you stupid
Steve: Turn the Stanley Cup into a cock and balls.
Manscaped Execs: Genius.
You know its bad when Steve is defending the Bruins
