    Great to hear a bit of discussion on environmental concerns there’s so much us fisher folk can do to help clean up the streams and protect them from further degradation,even little things like making sure you take any old tippet home with you rather than leaving it on the river bank helps a lot.
    Love the show.

      I always bring a grocery bag and pick up trash. Another thing you can do is speak to your local water council or authority and urge them to enforce pollution laws for land owners

    You most certainly are giving a great service. If I were in the USA I would not hesitate to buy from you indefinitely as I believe you are honest down to earth anglers firstly and not aiming to sell products which of course will be happening anyway as it is spawned from your honesty and help from all the team. Addendum: as for fishing in winter, we have the close season for trout, but the Grayling is available and that is a new aspect to me, mind you I am getting soft these days and wait for dry and mild temperatures.

    • @SpencerDurrant
      @SpencerDurrant ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really appreciate that John, and it's frustrating that selling internationally is such a pain in the butt. But seriously -- thanks man. I love the feedback. I also forget about the fishing seasons in the UK. Grayling in the winter is something I 100% think you should go after, though. Grayling might be my favorite fish. If I didn't live in the Rockies and fish for trout, I'd live in Alaska and fish for grayling.

    Hi Guys! My name is John. I'm a 60 year old disabled fisherman in a wheelchair due to being born with spina bifida. I've recently gotten into tying my own Flys and I'm taking a free class with a fishing club in California. I use spinning gear to fish flys as my bilateral rotatorcuff injuries won't allow me to cast a fly back and forth over my head. Also I can't get into the water or reach some rough area waters in my wheelchair. After all this, my question is do you have any advice to be successful using my spinning gear out on the water? I have not been able to find other fishermen fishing flys on spinning gear? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

      Hey John. Appreciate you taking the time to drop a comment. Inspiring to hear that you are still out there fishing.

      Hi Guys! It's John (the disabled guy in a wheelchair) and I'm really enjoying your beginner videos. Have you had a chance to do a little research on my situation yet? As a reminder, I use spinning gear to fish for a few reasons. One, expense....im on a fixed in one. Two, I can't get into the water duets my being in a wheelchair. 3. I'm new to this and not sure if I even want to spend a whole lot of money on gear. So what spinning gear or set up do you suggest? Thanks!
      John

    • @SpencerDurrant
      @SpencerDurrant 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      John! Sorry it took me a minute, I've been pretty busy lately.
      I love that you're getting into fishing any way you can! That's awesome.
      The only experience I have fishing flies off a spinning rod has been on lakes. You attach a clear plastic bubble to the line, then a swivel, then a couple feet of leader, and you put your dry fly behind that. You can cast it out (the bubble gives the rig weight) and let it sit there, or you can slowly retrieve that dry fly on in.
      You can also fill that bubble full of water, and attach a wooly bugger/other streamer and retrieve it just like you would any other lure.
      As far as doing that on rivers -- I'd think you could try the bubble with a dry fly, you'll just have to be really accurate with your cast to get it drifting where you want. I'd think you'd be more successful using nymphs and a strike indicator, with some split shot, on a spinning rod, than dry flies. Just my two cents, but hopefully some of that helps.

    You appreciate the less crowds of winter? So why make a vid encouraging more people to come out? TH-cam money?

    • @SpencerDurrant
      @SpencerDurrant ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Dude, I wish the TH-cam money was worth it! Ha.
      Nah, I did the video because I think learning to fly fish in winter is a great skill and will help people become better anglers. The whole point of Untangled and VFC is to help anglers become better, and I can't do that if I keep everything to myself.
      Hope you have a great holiday season and that you get out on the water!

      @@SpencerDurrant I understand why you talk about winter fishing, but please stop talking about fishing the provo. I grew up on the provo and fished it before it was a thing. Now you can't even get on it most days. But you can make it better by taking me fishing in Wyoming...just saying. My wife taught public school for over 35 years...just saying again. 😊 And diet Dr Pepper for the win. I used to drink diet Coke before covid. Now I can't stand the taste 😢

    Hey venture fly Co. 🪰 i loive a winter fly fish .
    Some things worth the mention in my opinion. Lol
    First of all I'm out of helena mt. . Close enough to the tail waters of the Missouri river I could probly hit with a reach cast. Jokes aside.
    Things to add if I may.
    Come late leave early. ..run your errands in the morning and get out there bout 11 or noon. Give the fish a while to warm up try n hit the warmest part of the day if possible. . 11-333.
    And I notice u didn't mention much about THINK PINK.
    sow bugs. Czeck nymphs. Worms. Eggs. Pink lightning bugs. Pill popper. And scuds are very prevalent in a lot of montana Freestones and tail waters.
    If fishing streamers size them down a bit. Don't need to throw wet socks all the time. Size 8 10 even 12 wooly Buggers . Thin mints leech patterns etc. Big articulated flies are great but in the winter the best shot is size down give the fish an easier meal.
    Even spay casting u can use alot of smaller swing flies can produce a bigger creel full of trout. . Big can work don't get me wrong. And can produce a large fish possibly. But if it's 10 degrees n snowing. Just enjoy a few trout to put your brain back to happy
    Again it's winter. I always Carry a towel myself to dry my hands before I throw the gloves back on if I need to take them off. N bring a second pair of mitts they can get wet. .
    Stanley Coffee container is always a good warm up for the belly. Cup included.
    Low and slow.fishing in winter
    have a good Christmas
    . I love your pod cast . Love listening to u in my headphones on the river. Thanks for sharing all your pro tips.
