I was over at a friend's house recently. We cracked open the EH Taylor small batch and Stagg Batch 18 he lucked into getting recently. I suggested we pour Eagle Rare too, since they're all mash bill #1. His dad was there that night too, so three different takes on these. We all did pick up some different notes obviously, but we picked up several of the same notes in all three of these! Those notes were grape soda, cherry, vanilla, caramel, oak, tobacco (light in ER, mild in EHTSmB and strong in the Stagg), baking spices/allspice and orange (for me it was orange peel, but they picked up orange zest). I would buy all three any day of the week if I came across them at MSRP, but I really like the Eagle Rare overall.

ER for sure, just a beautifully balanced pour with some depth

First bottle of ER I had was meh, next one was amazing. Really shocked in the difference between the two. Fortunately I can always find it in my area (for now) for $35. I’m willing to take a chance for that price 👍

I can't decide between the two...I love them both. EHT has been more elusive to me, but I did pick up one at MSRP the other day as well as an ER at MSRP. Both are just SO good to me for sippers...

I recently revisited Eagle Rare and I was pretty impressed with the complexity it has for a 90 proofer. It has great barrel character that comes through on the nose, pallet and finish. I wish it was a little higher proof, but for a 90 proofer it's still a great pour.
Keep up the good reviews...I was a little surprised by the results in this video until I did a side by side and got the same results....my wife even liked the Eagle Rare better.

I tried a pour of eagle rare back to back with EH Taylor single barrel and the eagle rare (which I normally really like) was almost undrinkable. The EHT was sooo much better.
That’s the thing about single barrels, they can be so different
Never was able to pin down exactly what that grape nose was until you pointed it out. Now it smells like grape fanta to me

Eagle rare is my favorite buffalo trace product I’ve tried. I like it more than: Eh Taylor small batch, weller special reserve, weller 107, Blantons, stagg, buffalo trace…. And bowman brothers small batch. It’s just so cherry forward, love it.

I have eagle rare. Three bottles but dont tell anyone. Hahaha. I have never seen an EH Taylor ever. Not in a store or a bar. Eagle Rare and Taylor are really hard to find in Minnesota for sure.

I have made it a practice to quit buying Buffalo Trace products, but it never fails, if I find an Eagle Rare for near MSRP I buy it. I will happily pass up the other offerings. Of course I would buy any BTAC for MSRP all day long, but that is not realistic at all 🙂
One can always dream perhaps in 10 or 15 years it will be a reality.
I thought standard Eagle Rare’s weren’t single barrels anymore unless it’s a store pick of course.
I explained in video but they can’t be called “single barrel” because they are on a bottling line and the last bottle of each barrel may be mixed with the next barrel. That being said MOST bottles are actually from a single barrel

@@WhiskeyTornado I still buy eagle rare, but it just sits there. Should use it as a daily drinker or just stop reflexively buying.
General consenus is EHT bests ER from the countless forums I visited.. I’d say its about 60/40

Everyone has their own preferences... but the 90 proof of ER kills it for me. I do like the flavor. And if they released a 100 proof ER it would be dangerous. But as it lies, EHT all day, everyday for me.

Agreed. The freaking 90 proof kills it for me too. I often mix the two on cigar nights when I’m just gonna be sipping. Weird but it does it for me. Especially since I have a case of a store pick grape koolaid type.

EHT small batch was such a dissapointment to me. To me it tastes like children’s grape flavored cough syrup with a splash of ethanol. Really gross.
This is a bs review and started out biased. Personally ER is meh for me. Everything about this episode is stilly and makes me think someone is pushing ER.

@@WhiskeyTornado not sure but it doesn’t hold a candle to Taylor. Really not as refined. You talked about graininess on the Taylor. I’m not sure what batch you got but it’s not grainy and doesn’t come off young. ER sometimes comes off flat. The concept is great but your show was shot from a perspective of bias. Just the way it came off to me. And as you can tell I really am hard core bourbon guy.
@@petenoto419 you realize taste is subjective and palates differ correct? It’s okay to disagree. I taste grain, it’s okay if you don’t. There’s no bias in this lol Just smile and enjoy what ever pour you like best.
@@WhiskeyTornado agreed taste is subjective. And so is criticism. And it’s all supposed to be fun. But I think it’s the finer point that’s lost in this discussion. If you had done this blind or framed the tasting differently it would have offer a much different content. Your shot it with the answer before you did your tasting. That makes the whole video kinda uninteresting. Listen I’ve watched before, and I watch a lot of these reviews. Just man on the street opinion. Take it as feedback or ignore. I totally agree that ER wins this battle. I love both but I just did a blind and my ER destroyed my EHT. Cheers
