Thanks Nikos for your truthful pov. Because of this video I get my the asus RT AX82U cause I'm using it just to hook up with my Nvidia Shield tv pro 4k for watching iptv. Worth money spend Singapore dollars of $255 for this router. Love the distance coverage as well for my whole house single storey without using any mesh.
I recently just got the Asus RT-AX82U here in the UK second hand for £80 vs £180 new. I can see the firmware seems to get upgraded often and even the standard Firmware has link aggregation so if speeds to above 1Gig I should be fine. (not that I'd ever need it) Im very happy with inbuilt VPN profiles VPN servers and other extra's
Just got the RT-AX82U brand new for 105 USD (it was on sale + ASUS was running a limited 60 USD cashback). Considering the other two were in 230 and 320... think it was a good deal.
just got AX86S, and it's amazing, sure with thicker brick walls I'm still getting only 2.4GHz in other rooms, barely around 40-50Mbits, but everything feels snappier - hard to describe, but for my needs it's probably even more important than actual data speeds, I do have two Synology NASes, and speaking of futureproofing, I pretty much decided to just get noticeably cheaper AX86S and wait for Synology to start making affordable 10Gbit-equipped NASes, and only after THEN I'd decide on 10Gbit switches, and eventually also wireless routers - as of right now, ASUS AX89X wireless router does offer 10Gbit connection, and at that price I'm in no hurry :D
Good to hear. I did see the 89x and thought about it but I am planning on looking at anything I buy next to have a wifi 6e. That 10Gbit port looks enticing.
The frame rate in games won't change due to a router. I bought the Asus RT-AX82U and it does improve connection quality and stability. Hi. Trying to pick out a new router to replace my Asus RT-AC3200. Which one would you recommend? Asus RT-AX86U TP-Link Archer AX11000 TP-Link Archer GX90
Its based on use case bro. Depending on what you need it for. I am not a fan of TP-Link as I have had some issues in the past. I tested the Asus line and Netgear. Asus won the battle. If I were to buy a new router jumping from the ac3200 to the ax86u would be the logical step up. That being said, wifi 6e routers will probably be the next step up and they should be flooding the market later this year so waiting would be a better bet in your situation with the router you have.

Hey man, I have tested the ax88u not the ax3000. Ax3000 is the newer one. So I don't have first hand experience on it. But to compare it with the ax86u(ax5700) The ax3000 has a tad more speed on the ac channel but the ax5700u looks better overall with speed on ax in all channels. The bands allow for 4x4 and the chips is a tad faster along with double the ram. So depending on what you are doing ie. file transfers it would be better to go for something like the ax5700. Here is a link to see the difference: www.asus.com/product-compare?ProductID=14715,20488&LevelId=networking-iot-servers-wifi-routers
ax86u is 40 doller more it only has 2 or 3 feture more .like a feture that block web unwanted traffic. do i need this and my is wifi only 100mbps or more
@Nikos Rentas Ive been using the HUAWEI WiFi AX3/ AX3 Pro Wi-Fi 6+ now for awhile and have been very pleased and for the price, it cant be beaten....was a lot cheaper than upgrading my ADSL Modem/Router Asus DSL AC3100, I'm also in Australia so there's that...
Yeah, I understand. I have some friends in different countries using Huawei products. It's getting kind of tough to use them in Canada/USA with all the negative publicity. That being said, it is always a question of security with any product not just based on what we see. Interesting note, I was talking to an insurance guy regarding cyber insurance and he asked me if I was using Huawei devices and when I asked him to confirm on policy he said he would get back to me.. Haven't heard back yet lol
@Nikos Rentas yeah I'm aware, it's an issue for concern here as well, so far sale of their products haven't been blocked and some ISP's still include their modem/routers to customers. I would be more concerned about security if it were my primary router and if I weren't using a VPN with Windows 11 Pro.
Just got the 86u for $207 with 4 year warranty from bestbuy. I will be upgrading in three years. My series X is hard wired any Recommendations setting for the xb1
Hi mate, I wanna buy a router and I’m in between Asus RT-AX92U, RT-AX86U and ROG STRIX GS-AX5400, Tp-link Archer GX90. Which one of the best? I have budget to buy any of them.
I bought the rt 82u, I have 900mbps ISP, I mean Xfinity give me 900mbps but I can't get not even close with this router, my modem can handle UpTo 2 gigabits... Do I need to do anything in this router to make it faster?
I need something better than the router from ATT. I get buffering on the TVs that are furthest from the router. I do not do any fancy stuff that you do. I need a router that will reach out on a 1900 sq. Ft. House. What is your suggestion?
Yeah as Ernie said, the AX86U is great for 1900 SQ.FT. The AX82U is also a good candidate. I currently have the AX88U in a 2000SQ.FT and the 4k streams no problem. In most cases you are streaming on the 2.4GHz network. So it will reach. The netgear is good as well and they have a few models. Depending on your house what I would do is purchase from a place you can return the unit. Sometimes people will make a purchase and the build of the house blocks the strength of the signal and they need a mesh setup. You can mesh two of the Asus or get a specific mesh.
Depends on what you are looking for with future proof. If you are thinking about WIFI 6e then it seems these won't. It seems there will not be any firmware upgrades. However, for WIFI 6 speeds, you should be good next few years. At that we won't know how much more benefit the WIFI 6e will be with distance so its a waiting game either way. When we are looking at new 1.5+ Gigabit speeds being offered by providers, the 86U has a 2.5 G port that will allow you to take advantage and not have to upgrade. So one your provider offers it, you would most likely get a new modem, hook it up to the modem and you are good to go. That being said, most likely scenario, when the wifi 6e is offered along with the new gigabit speeds by the providers, you would most likely upgrade to a new router then and use the mesh setup to utilize this router until it gives out.
I would say the 88u is NOT future proof. It doesn't have a 10 or even a 5Gb/s WAN or LAN port, so it is outdated for wired LAN. It isn't even able to support the domestic internet connections currently avaliable my country (4Gb/s). Also the WiFi is WiFi 6 not 6E (there will be no firmware update to change this). If you really want WiFi 6E the Asus GT-AXE11000 is out, but it only has 2.5Gb/s WAN/LAN. If you want fastest internet connection then the 89U has 10Gb/s WAN and LAN connections.
I never tested it. The ax8u comes with 4x4 setup so it is more powerful with connections and overall speed. It looks like it uses a similar processor. I would check out this review: dongknows.com/asus-rt-ax3000-rt-ax58u-review/
lol thanks for the comment. Totally agree with you. I have the same issue with NAS systems. It's like put some real power in this thing or let me upgrade freely.
How is the 2.4 GHz range on the AX86U compared to the AX82U. I got the 82U and it just about reaches my shed (about 22m away) but the signals pretty weak. Surprisingly, the range is worse than my 8 year old ISP provided Huawei HG533. And on 5 GHz, with WiFi anaIyzer on my phone I get between -60 and -70db indoors at 7m. If you still have them, can you do a 2.4 GHz signal comparison between the three routers?
I have the ax88u and the ax86u still. The range is a little bit better on the ax86u but not by much and when I did my tests the ax82u was about the same as the ax88u. So you will get some improvement with the ax86u but won't be significant enough from one over the other. If you are looking at a stronger signal for that distance you would need to mesh or use extenders. ie. convert the Huawei to an extender.
@@NikosRentas My new ISPs router has pretty good 5 GHz range, about the same as the 82U, maybe even better but I didn't test it properly. It reaches my shed just fine so I returned the 82U. Might get the 86U later if I need the QoS.

I really need an upgrade from my ancient Linksys E3000 Wifi 4 stone-age device lol. Doing video editing, uploading braw files, (not editing from server), bit of gaming, video etc the usual. Thanks for the vid!
If you are getting top speeds with your internet speed and don't need all the LAN connectors, WIFI 6, etc. I would wait on it. No need to rush yet and wait till it is in stock.
For all of them it depends on the need/usage and devices so I couldn't tell you and its hard to find a good number. I have about 18 devices connected at the studio (most are 2.4GHz) and give everyone access to a separate 2.4GHz connection that tops out the bandwidth so it doesn't effect slow downs with any work the main users are doing. ie. my uploading and downloading of videos with google drive.
Hey Nikos, I'm considering between 86u and 82u for a wifi upgrade for my house. A bit info abt my house, it's a 106 square meters apartment with 3 bed rooms. I have 3 xiaomi camera, 1 ps5, 1 tv box, 1 4K Samsung TV, 2 laptops and around 4 to 5 smartphones and a few smart lamps. My usage is mostly watching TH-cam, Netflix, working remotly and playing games. Which one should i get? Thank you.
Have a question. I have a rt-ac68u, had it for at least 5 or 6 years. Wanna upgrade to the ax86u. Can I use the old router with aimesh with the newer one? Also will wifi 6 signal go thru the old router in aimesh? Thanks
@@NikosRentas true, it’s about $210 US for the ax82u vs $365 for the ax86u in Bulgaria for example (EU) which are overall good prices, because you can get a discount most of the times and about 10-15 usd off, so I immediately got the ax82. It’s a great experience on my gigabit network. I’m getting some work done on my m1 mac mini and I have never since used the Ethernet cable on it. CSGO on the ‘21 zephyrus runs great on wifi too which really amazed me, that’s game changing for devices that support wifi6, otherwise there were a lot of lag spikes and latency. Thanks for the amazing content you’re creating, too!
8:07 you mention that companies have their "gaming" routers and then the real gaming routers. What do you mean by the "real" gaming routers. I 'm genuinely asking because I need a router but I don't want to buy the next thing that has the word "gaming" plastered all over it.
There is always the lower end, mid tear, and highend routers for all companies. These are the upper middle. You would then have the true gaming routers dedicated to gaming. Something like rog.asus.com/networking/rog-rapture-gt-axe11000-model/ would be an example. This is something I would be looking at for highend but would wait until they have one that supports wifi 6e www.asus.com/Networking-IoT-Servers/WiFi-Routers/ASUS-Gaming-Routers/RT-AX89X/
Use cable to see if the lag is gone..If lag is gone with cable a better router would solve your problem(on wifi6). (if you have 8gb of ram or less try to upgrade to 16gb ram)
All of these routers are good with streaming. The ax86U has been my go to and it hasn't disappointed me. Check out the other videos in the description.

Those 10GBbps do look like a treat. Unless you need them I am not sure if it is worth the money. I don't understand why they wouldn't put WIFI6e on it though. Here is a review for it from Dong Knows. He has been spot on with the reviews. dongknows.com/asus-rt-ax89x-review/
86u is super expensive right now here in brazil, 88u almost half the price, i dont need 2.5g ethernet, and have many devices connected and a nas, 88u is the Way to go i guess?
yeah for sure! I have both and to be honest the 2.5 Lan would be useful for only certain scenarios and doesn't justify a large price difference. The only real difference in performance was that the ax86u was slightly more stable with the connection on big transfers but it was negligible at best. If I wasn't testing I wouldn't have noticed it. I have a NAS connected to it to achieve 2Gbit speed and several other LAN connections. The new routers are coming out with wifi6e so I would be tempted to wait if not needed.
I just bought the AX86S and now wondering if i did the right choice over buying the AX86U because of that additional 2.5 port, i'm not a pro with routers but if i had a 2Gbps internet connection i won't get that speed with the wifi on the AX86S? i would only get 1Gbps? although they say speed up to 5.7Gbps... i'm lost :s

Did you test your speed before hand so you know the max? I am with Rogers in Canada and it has gigabit speed on the download and only 30Mbits on the upload. I get 800-875 on the download and 40 on the upload. They do limit things on the modem. I did find with Cat 8 cables I got better signal. I did have an older modem before we switched to ignite gigabit speed and and we had 500Mbits per second. I was getting 650 lol. So check your provider and others. At the office I am getting higher numbers on gigabit speed. Here are my settings: ibb.co/xFmXP9H ibb.co/gzLDbYP nikosrentas.imgbb.com/
Tbh I think they could qualify as gaming routers as they have gaming settings and speed boost Asus is meant for if you wanna game far away and still get a decent ping while Netgear's duma os is meant for gaming at close ranges it's built for close range gaming as u can expand or strink ur play radius on its settings now Asus is a router to try and reduce ur ping by choosing a faster path way to the server u want to connect to in a vs battle between duma vs Asus fast I'd say if duma is on home turf like the server is right next to them I believe duma would win but if the server was between the two routers at a center point I think Asus would win because it's meant for far distance gaming if the server was close to Asus Asus would win again so it's 2-1 in terms of who would win 2 for Asus and 1 for duma os
Netfear is total garbage their firmware updates are bricking routers and making them unstable. If you wanna reboot your router 3x a day do to dropped signals get a net gear

Thanks a lot for the info bro i have one question ax86u how manu guest can it support ?
Thank you.
I have the AX86U and want something to AIMESH with it. Recommendations?
It seems any of the ax routers will mesh. I will be doing a video on this. Here is a link that explains more: dongknows.com/asus-aimesh-overview/
Have a question. I have a rt-ac68u, had it for at least 5 or 6 years. Wanna upgrade to the ax86u. Can I use the old router with aimesh with the newer one? Also will wifi 6 signal go thru the old router in aimesh? Thanks
yes you can use the ac86u with aimesh, just make sure the AX86U is the main router, idk about the signal going through to the ac86u though.
@@yungkoops of thanks man
@Madrid thanks for responding.
Right now the RT-AX82U is almost two times cheaper than the RT-AX86U...
Serious eh? Where you at? I hear a lot of people in Europe have crazy pricing.
He is a liar 🤥. Two times cheaper huh!
@herry, depending on location around the world some places have them way cheaper. Mind blowing sometimes.
@Starforsaken That's awesome news to hear! Thanks for letting me know!
Do you really need to future proof your router though?
No you don't. People want to though. Next few years you will see ISP providers jumping to a 1-1.5 as a norm so this will help.
What if I stream a lot and get lag. Which should I go with? I have a wifi 6 device that I stream with. I dont have a wifi 6 router.
Are you from greece?
Yeah, Greek but living in Canada. How about you?
@@NikosRentas Am Greek to but I still leave in Greece🙂
I'm jealous lol Wish I was back!
86u is not available in India. I really want to upgrade, main focus is on Gaming. Let me know which one should i go for. Pls
Any of them would be good for gaming. Unless you need the ports the 82U would be a good bet

How many user can handle for rt ax 82u? (By wifi)
Depends on the need/usage and devices so I couldn't tell you and its hard to find a good number. And ASUS RT-AX89X?
Those 10GBbps do look like a treat. Unless you need them I am not sure if it is worth the money. I don't understand why they wouldn't put WIFI6e on it though. Here is a review for it from Dong Knows. He has been spot on with the reviews. dongknows.com/asus-rt-ax89x-review/
Nice👌
Thanks!
HUAWEI WiFi AX3/ AX3 Pro Wi-Fi 6+ it does not have to be rocket science and it doesnt have to be expensive - can also be used as a range extender
I have heard good things.
I just bought the AX86S and now wondering if i did the right choice over buying the AX86U because of that additional 2.5 port, i'm not a pro with routers but if i had a 2Gbps internet connection i won't get that speed with the wifi on the AX86S? i would only get 1Gbps? although they say speed up to 5.7Gbps... i'm lost :s
82 and
X73
I tried one tp-link and had a bad experience. I should try them out again one day lol

Hi! Just got this router but i’m getting 850+Download and 200Upload on wired, i do have gigabit internet speed, idk what seems to be the issue that’s preventing me to get full speeds from my ISP, and i have FiOS btw, i’m confuse as to what should i do :/
Did you test your speed before hand so you know the max? I am with Rogers in Canada and it has gigabit speed on the download and only 30Mbits on the upload. I get 800-875 on the download and 40 on the upload. They do limit things on the modem. I did find with Cat 8 cables I got better signal. I did have an older modem before we switched to ignite gigabit speed and and we had 500Mbits per second. I was getting 650 lol. So check your provider and others.
At the office I am getting higher numbers on gigabit speed.
Here are my settings:

ASUS routers with internal antenna don’t work as good as routers with external antenna.
My experience has not shown be that but if you have some form of documentation to review I would love to see it.
FFS why cant anyone just get to the fucking point without behaving like someone teaching a 6th grade IT Course......
bro, it's hard to balance making videos. If you make them to easy someone will be upset. If you make them to hard someone will be upset. I am trying to balance it out the best I can but it's been a challenge to find the balance. So its like err on the side of add the basics.
