Glen Oro HT 2016 Training Cross Country Helmet Cam

  • Had such a fun time at Glen Oro yesterday in my second Training event!
    Dressage was a little tense, but otherwise pretty good, to score 57.2. We had such a good warm-up though, so for me that helps make up for whatever marks we lost in the ring.
    Stadium was interesting to say the least, having minimal brakes for portions of the course, but we still got the job done with only one rail.
    Finally, we had an absolutely amazing cross country, going double clear! It was definitely the most fun I've ever had on a cross course :)
    We ended up finishing 6th out of 16!

    I find it very nice that you say things like good job or good boy to your horse because I've seen so many people not talking to their horses at all

    • @Kai-lg8ib
      @Kai-lg8ib 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      oh justgotsarcastic I talk to the horse I ride at lessons because I find it reassuring and I want the horse to know it's doing good... the horse even tests me. He is a Quarter horse and I ride western I get nervous mounting and we HAVE to use mounting stools

    • @legerdemain444
      @legerdemain444 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      The horse usually doesn't care if you talk to them (horses don't talk), some of them get reassurance from a calm voice, others don't care at all. If talking relaxes you personally then fine, go for it, but if you can't relax and quiet your voice, at best the horse will ignore you, at worse will get upset. Its far more important to release your aids (eg leg pressure, rein pressure) when the horse does as asked so it has a reward, telling him good boy won't replace that at all. Also for many disicplines its a very bad habit to get into talking to your horse, for example dressage will mark you down severely for ANY verbal cues or talking.

    • @3harrypotterfans510

    I felt like I was on a horse..I wish I could ride sadly I cant..I've tried to talk to my parents they say its to expensive and to far away but its like 2 minutes away from my house if you drive the only time I get to ride is when I go to my grandma and grandpas house which is 2 hours away

    • @bethany508
      @bethany508 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it is expensive tbh, it's like in UK £30-£50 which is around about $35-$55 per week, which sums up to a grand each year but don't let that stop you! save up ur money and soon you'll be on a sadle!

    • @ZuzanaUlrich
      @ZuzanaUlrich 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beata, don't be sad! Wait, life is long - even if it doesn't look so. I had to wait until I was 22, then I had money to buy my own horse and money to feed her = pay for her each and every month. A horse, that was may be too small for me already, but a horse I loved and knew from foal. I started ridding when I was 13, I'm self taught, I've had 3 horses during the time. 15 years later I got married, now have 2 children, had to sell my last horse, because of money, but still hope. Hope and believe and try to work for that, that we will buy a horse or two once again. My children love horses as well :-) When my daughter was 2 yrs. old, I visited my friend, now the owner of my last horse - a TB mare - and my little daughter, as tall as just Debora's head, rode her, bareback in a paddock. My daughter is 6 now and I see and hear me in her, how much I wanted to have a horse when I was a child :-) Wait, life is long and you never know when it comes to that, that your wishes will come true ...

    • @equineedits608
      @equineedits608 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My dream used to be to own a horse and last year my dream kind of came true. I would only ever go on trail rides about twice a year and I loved it to death but didn’t really show dedication so I started researching them. I became horse mad. every thing was horses, horses, horses and I started impressing my parents about how much I know. I started researching horse riding lessons near me and after 2 months I found a riding school 20 mins away. I begged my parents and after a few weeks they decided to give it a try. We all fell in love with the place and I learned sooooo much and even started to learn how to vault and went into my first competition. I did that once a week every week for about 5 months and helped out at the barn to get free lessons. A few weeks before Christmas my mum got a text from her friend saying that she has had a pony that she bought for her daughter but she had no interest in riding so the pony had been sitting in a paddock for a year and someone needed to ride it or she would have to sell it. I jumped at the opportunity and the first week she bucked me off. I knew that this pony was hard work but I also knew it was the right decision to keep going with her. We found out she bucked because she had a crooked spine. We are just starting to get to know each other and we are going on a 23km trail ride soon. Never give up and I can guarantee you will be a great equestrian.

    Absolutely love this video. I was a rider like this as a kid until the stables I rode at let their dog attack my lease horse and I ended up breaking my elbow and physically becoming disabled.
    I've been thinking over a decade to get back into it, do you have any tips for someone with anxiety (ptsd)?

    • @cf_eventing
      @cf_eventing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fern Allen I'm glad you enjoyed the video! :) I'm definitely not an expert with stuff like that and I won't pretend to be, but the one thing I can think of suggesting is to take things at your own pace, never feel like you have to pressure yourself into moving faster than you feel like you're ready for, even if you have to take things in baby steps for a while. Also, whenever I do things that make me anxious, I like to have someone calm that I trust with me for encouragement and moral support, so of you have someone like that in mind, maybe asking them to come along will make things a bit easier. I have no idea if any of that was actually good advice, but I hope I was able to be a little bit helpful. Good luck! :)

      Global Intifada
      You obviously wouldn’t take your horse, who’s probably inexperienced in eventing, and ask them to do this straight away. They’re athletes, so they train. They strengthen their hearts and lungs, but their legs as well so they can handle the jumps without getting tired. If you think 5 minutes is a lot, the Land Rover Kentucky 3 Day Event course takes around 11-13 minutes. Those horse who compete their have trained for years

      Horseback riding requires an extreme amount of muscle. I was unaware as well when I used to watch it when I was a kid. I used to think the horse that all the work, but to stay on the horse is much harder than you would think. You have to build up your muscles

      She knows what she needs for her horse. You are not her trainer. I see horses acting like this and shaking their heads even with martingales on. Your comment is invalid

    You looked like you had trouble controlling him.. The faster and more excited a horse is the harder it is to control it.
