I was introduced to canned Yerba in college. Never tried the traditional method until I stumbled upon your very informative channel. I’m using a coarse Argentine blend currently, which I love. Can’t wait to try the different blends you recommend! Much respect.
As an argentino who tried most brands, my favorites are Rosamonte selección especial, Amanda and La Tranquera. I bought a pack of Canarias (Uruguay) because I've heard great things about it.
People who say it's smokey or too strong are maybe brewing it too hot. I like the smoky taste (being an Ardbeg 30 junkie) so sometimes I'll go up to 170° or 190°. Thank you for recommending 150°. No one in South Brazil or Argentina where I learned to drink this seems to measure temperature.
PLEASE!!!!! make more of these!!! I'm starting out and you taught me everything I know... I'm basically ready, I just don't know WHICH Mate to drink and why I might like it... (I got the idea from a pre-mixed mate drink you can buy here in Germany, but I have no idea where that stands vs all other Mate or, indeed, if that even tasted like proper Mate in the first place)
@@yerbamatelab mine too and completely agree. The Especial's just got a bit of everything - the mown lawn of Kraus, the smokiness of La Rubia, the frosted cereal notes of Playadito. It's not too weak, it's not too strong. It's subtle yet complex, and all in balance.
I'm so glad I found your channel. I've never tried Yerba Mate before but damn if I'm not interested. I already consume tea as my main beverage throughout the day, this seems like a perfect addition to my hobby~
Try it, I use Rosamonte and a tea ball to brew not the traditional method. I add oolong or mint tea bag to give extra depth to it. Try it plain first to taste the original. 😊
@@wandayoung5904 I've been trying it for a few months now and I've all but stopped drinking tea and coffee. (Still love my tea though.) Mixing tea with Mate sounds interesting!! I have a few tablets of Pu-er tea that I think might go lovely with Mate.
I just ordered mine. Should enjoy it since I actually like bitter tasting drink. I drink my tea no sugar. I know matte is not tea but should be an easier transition for me. Don’t really like coffe and was gonna start drinking it to improve my energy in the gym since I also don’t like to use pre workout
This is an incredibly accurate review, my only difference, maybe due to my batch being different is the heavy smokey taste, mine was super dense in terms of smokey notes. But yes it didnt last long, very earthy, slight cotton mouth, the taste quickly grew on me though. I thougj for a dense yerba it wasn't strong on effect and then bamn, it creot alright. Not as intense as Canarias special edition, but also didnt leave any lingering effects long after it goes away jusr as smoothly. I like it. 7/10
According to Andrew Huberman, he said that smoked versions of Yerba mate can carry carcinogenic cancer promoting compounds. Is this true for Rosamonte?
I agree with what you said. Rosamonte has a unique taste but for experienced people it may seem a little bit boring. However I tried Rosamonte Selección Especial, also, wich is very different in taste; being very smokey; I liked it very much.
I stumbled across your channel (and this video) today as I was looking for updated info about some of the new Mate trends from growers in Misiones. When I lived in Argentina in the mid 80s, I lived in the NE regions of Republica Argentina (Chaco, Misiones). Most of the people I associated with preferred Rosamonte, and that was the first yerba I drank, and to this day prefer. After trying multiple types and brands over the years, this is my preferred brand as the strongest in flavor. I would be curious to get your take on 'Especial' as is it processed a bit differently. Now, one final note, during a tour of the Rosamonte processing/packaging plant in '86, they emphasized the amount of time that they actually do smoke the cuttings after harvest for longer than other brands.
Im an Argentine born and THIS IS my brand my fellow yankees... lol. Love its flavor and I DO recommend. P.s. plus-" I love its packaging" as my momma says. Chau ✌️🇺🇲🇦🇷
I have this and I needed your channel for the mountain because my tea shop Mate did not have any pieces small enough to get through my filter 😂 I need a kettle because I still get really bitter
used to drink rosamonte when i was younger because is was easier to drink as it doesnt have a strong bitter taste as others, rigth now im enjoying Noblesa Gaucha and by the gods i didnt have an mate buzz for years before i changed yerbas by the way i have a relatively big gourd, enoug to pour 30-40grams of yerba and is enough for me alone to drink a liter of water without being watery
What do you think about stainless steel mates against the typical pumpking/wood ones? And one small comment: once you insert the bombilla for the first time inside the yerba, you should cover the upper tip with your thumb (thats what they say at least).
They both serve their purpose. I always suggest having both. Calabash for the traditional natural feel and added flavor. Steel for the ease of maintenance. As for covering the tip, it's a thing for chimarrão, but I've done without it and it makes little to no difference in my experience
I feel like this review might have been a little condescending lol. I've been drinking mate since far before my balls dropped, as I am from Argentina and this is part of my blood. I also personally favor the most complex tasting yerba, and to call Rosamonte only good for beginners and grandstanding by saying, quite pretentiously, "I personally prefer my mate to taste more complex" is pretty insulting and annoying to say when Rosamonte is probably the favorite mate of my whole extended family, and probably in my 2 favorite's along with Canarias, which is Uruguayan so that's a personal preference for me and not my family.
As someone who has been watching a few months to the point they got a gourd for Christmas, any tips for curing a mate time gourd or tips on brewing with a stove top kettle? Also, I got Yerbalance blend. Any suggestions on better Yerba?
Stumbled across one of your videos not too long ago and I just bought a gourd and a bag of Rosamonte. It should be here in a few days and I'm excited! 🧉Never had it before and I'm absolutely expecting it to be less than delicious for a little while 😂😅 I do love black coffee and espresso already, so I don't think it should be too difficult to aquire the taste yerba mate.
Never tried anything from Cachamate yet. CBSe on the other hand is a decent brand. I enjoy their guarana version above all the others I've tried from them.
From what I have heard this drink while cafinated has a slower absorption process leading to a slower rise and slower decline than coffee. Similar to other forms of cafinated drinks. It's a different drink that isn't for everyone and that's okay.

3:21 love the way you described the "yerba mate high"
The Rosamonte especial is in fact very special and strong. This is one of the yerba's I am buying for then and now.
Just put my freshly-brewed coffee in the fridge and brewed a Rosamonte. Your review does it justice.
The Rosamonte Especial is very good. Haven't tried this standard one
Rosamonte Especial is one of my favorites of all time. Their best one out of their entire line. Highly complex flavors

Do you prefer course or a fine grind?
Can you make a video about the Piporé varieties? I would be happy, greetings from Germany
what's your opinion on guayaki??? i only can find mate bag at my location
Guayaki's loose leaf yerba is ok. Very mild compared to most traditional brands. If you want something light, then it's a good start
Bro what happened? How come there's only 2 yerba product reviews. Plz make this a series 😅
Is it possible to find decaffeinated Yerba in leaf form? I’m new to this and caffeine is still a bit hard for me
As of right now, I don't think there's such thing as decaf yerba yet. Suave varieties are lower in caffeine however as they add more stems than usual
Rosamonte is my main Yerba Mate brand.....
Is rosamonte organic I cant find any info online
