Not really a "shot" though... or shade of any kind lol. I see it as more like his acknowledgement and respect for her dedication and perseverance on Gourmet Makes, and the fact that he doesn't have the motivation to perfect it in the way that that she has a propensity to.
I think Chris's series is better because there is a hard stop on day 2. Claire has to keep going until she nails it, her only out is victory. That's the problem with gourmet makes.
I would say at least claire can see what she's trying to make and even look at ingredients and even how it's made, but considering it still gives her such a hard time I think it really illustrates just how difficult it can be to recreate factory produced thing with just what you'd have in a typical kitchen.

I'm just too amazed with how close he gets to be worried about the precise details he misses. Sure it'd be great if he could get it perfectly every time, but then it'd be taken for granted and I think the episodes would lose some of their magic.

To be fair Cheeese is one of the hardest things to figure out when you can't see it. I mean some are obvious, but there's so many freaking types of cheeses. And here they mixed 2 cheeses which makes it even harder to tell.
I remember at first I used to think he was that boss type figure who was very reserved all the time. Then he really opened up in front of the camera and his beautiful personality started showing. Now he is a gift that just keeps giving.

I find it quite unfair when Chris detects an ingredient but its in the "sauce" instead of the "toppings" ... like the man is doing this blindfolded. He is getting the raw ingredients right and I think that matters more than being able to magically distinguish whether it's in the toppings or sauce when they are all mixed together. Alas, its an arbitrary grading system, I'm still blown away with his accuracy. I'm way to indecisive to pull anything like this off
When I watched the first couple episodes, I thought about this and it irked me too. Because as you say, the ingredients are mashed up and it's almost impossible to distinguish if it's in the topping or sauce, whatever. However, the ingredients are indicators of how the dish was assembled, so to compensate I think the the editors should highlight the ingredient in green, but add an X to indicate it's in the wrong part.
my mum taught my that crustaceans like lobster and crabs can't really perceive the heat so it would actually more "nice" to put them in the boiling water without stabbing them in the brain.... but I am not sure, so everyone should do it like how they are comfortable with it ^^

For Carla: Thermidor (mid August) is a month in the French Republican (post revolutionary) calendar. The dish is named for the month because it falls into peak lobster season.
Same with spring onions. He always struggles with them and they have a very distinctive flavour. Unless they are just bad in the US. Because here in the UK, a spring onion is very flavourful.
They're literally the outer layer. If the inside was completely wrong and the appearance was identical it would've been 100%. It's an arbitrary test anyway.
I think he was underthinking in this case, lol. He never tries just a spoonful of the entire thing to get a whole bite and see if he can detect anything else. He always just takes little nibbles off the top. I swear he misses more stuff that way and maybe could've detected the other cheese, lol

"Snoop Dogg's Lobster Thermidor" is probably the most unexpected combination of words I could have ever imagined.
Snoop has some recipes that are totally worth looking up on Google. I've made his mashed potatoes multiple times and they are great.
His fried chicken is woooooah multiple people have did videos on it and its that good.
