- You've been with me for my entire university journey so far, so I thought it was only right to open my first year university results with you too! I'm not 100% sure how I feel, but I know I worked incredibly hard this year, and I'll be back next year to give it even more. This is my live reaction to my uni results day 2018.

The UK system baffles me. It has been 26 years since I graduated from University of Iceland (in 1995). In Iceland every module/course counts to the final weighted average grade.
1. Class with distinction is 9.0 to 10.
1st Class is 7.25 to 8.99.
2nd Class is 6.0 to 7.24.
3rd Class is 5.0 to 5.99.
Grades are on a scale 1 to 10 with 0.5 increments.
"the whole course just baffled me" is such a MOOD finally some relatable content ;)
"40% is a third" ... me being dumb thinking he means 33.333333% and then you continue talking and I realise you're actually talking about the names of grades :)

40% in America is an automatic fail. 50% is a fail. 60% is D or just above a flat out fail. 70% is a C or satisfactory, 80% is a B is above satisfactory, 90% and above is an A which means excellent.

I study English Literature and just got a 2:1 too in my first year at the University of Birmingham! We had the same issue of not actually being told what our overall classification is so there was some panic on the course group chat as we all struggled to recall basic GCSE maths! Congratulations!!

I’m studying languages in Paris and i also got my results at the start of the week and i passed my second year with mention so yayyyy to us 🎉🎉
Jack, you know what? You deserve this SO MUCH. You have worked so hard this year, like settling into a brand new place must be so difficult anyway, let alone while making videos for us and helping us all through our exams and applying to uni too! Hell yh I'm super happy that things went your way and you're pleased with everything! Its definately got me thinking about my summer Alevel results day in a few months though. Also, I was wondering if you've considered making a video on the items you brought to uni that came in super useful or wish you had, in your room tour you showed those sticky hooks for your keys etc and that seemed like such a good idea! I was just wondering if you had anymore little things like that?
Yesssss I'd love to do something like that! Unfortunately all my stuff is in storage in Durham so it might have to wait 'til next year, as I don't have anything with me at the mo, and by the time I do it'll be October!

Congratulations Jack! Job well done. I simply admire how hard you work and how you take true ownership of each of your classes and are able to adjust the amount of effort each require like a true professional! I also think that you do an amazing job of knowing when you have time to play and have fun and when you don't. That is a trait that I wished I had possessed when I was in college. But alas, although I did manage to graduate, I clearly enjoyed the "play and have fun" part of college much more than the work and study part. :)

Actually I'm so happy for you Jack ! The hard work paid off and we're proud of you. I discovered your channel a few month ago and since then I did follow your journey through your first year of uni. And a 2.1 i's actually awesome ! Your results make me a little bit nervous, cause I'm currently in my week exam of the Baccalauréat (equivalent of the A-level in France), so yeah wish me luck ahah. (Tomorrow I have physics and chemistry and god knows how nervous I am right now ahah).

Flat White Kitchen and Riverview Kitchen are great for brunch food (the pancakes are INSANE), Tango is good for burgers, Carluccio's for pizza.
You have to go and see the Castle, and the Cathedral/cloisters are great too. There's also a cool riverwalk leading from the centre of the city up to Prebends Bridge (which was next to my first year accommodation)!
Fellow Durham student (and soon to be graduate) here - if you're looking for a cute café I'd also really recommend Cafédral (on Owengate) or Leonards (down Back Silver Street). Also the botanical gardens are absolute lovely on a sunny day if you're up near Collingwood or Grey! Enjoy Durham, it's a gem x

In America even in your general education, you can still be published in some circumstances. I had almost gotten an anthropology paper(Social Structures of the Yokuts Social Structures) published, and the same thing happened in kinesiology (Complexities of Spinal Cord Injuries).

It's so much more different than highschool. I honestly didn't expect it to be that drastic. The pass mark at my school is a 60% overall average but by my standards it's 75% or 70% (not that I always pass it). If I get lower than a 75% or 80% (which is an A) in some subjects I'm really disappointed. There are obviously subjects that I am terrible at ex. Spanish, so they will bring down my average.
But by the marking scheme and the difficulty of university you did very well. I hope I can do that good when I get to that stage. If I get there. Congrats. 💜
