  • This was always one of my favorite rear projection television sets as a child and was offered by my grandma to keep the set since a flat screen TV took it's place six months ago.
    Video used on the set.

    My grandma still has this wide screen rear projection TV from like 2006. It is the worst thing to watch anything on because you have to be looking like directly at it. If you’re at an angle it’s really dim. Every single year she’s like “I’m gonna die soon I don’t to buy a new one” 😂

    Huge screens like them would still be enjoyable for watching 4:3s on without worrying about blank spaces.

    Oh man looking at this kind of TV brings back memories. Back then these seemed like the coolest thing ever, but in retrospect they were pretty terrible from an image quality standpoint. You got a really soft image mixed with pretty low brightness which meant that you pretty much had to use these in a basement/dark room.

    I love these dinosaur projection TVs, my grandmother had one when I was seven and I used to watch cartoons on it.
    I would love to have one of these in my apartment, they’re cheap, really cheap, but I’m sure my father would rather shoot me than help with bringing it into the apartment lmao.
    I know they’re heavy beyond hell but there’s just something about how the picture looks with the RGB artifacts that’s comforting, don’t know how to explain it.

    • @absolutely0bsolete330
      @absolutely0bsolete330 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a rear projection tv it uses coloured lamps and a mirror to reflect the image on to the screen. CRT users an electro gun to draw lines on the screen both are pretty cool but have drastically different look.
      I find crts sharper and more vivid but rear projection tvs result in a softer image.

I’ve also Converted 25+ Computers (A mix of Dell Optiplex 755(s) and 760(s), as well as, 1 Dell Optiplex 520, and a few Hp 6005(s)), from Windows 7, to Chrome OS (Which I’m not a fan of Chrome’s OS), for the Digital Divide Program, which gives students old/repaired computers, to whoever can’t afford one, for free!

    I wonder what the resolution was on these thing.

    • @DoubleMonoLR
      @DoubleMonoLR 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no fixed resolution on CRTs, but this was almost certainly standard definition.
      It's '480i', but really it's better to think of it as 480 lines. CRT displays typically look more natural at this size than the equivalent digital resolution though. There's also no scaling required with CRTs.

    • @DoubleMonoLR
      @DoubleMonoLR 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's nothing to do with China, they make products that are just as good as anywhere else. Typically better for the price.
      The issue is that customers just want cheap, and constantly throw stuff out to replace it with something marginally theoretically better. Supply & demand, demand is not generally for more expensive products, with higher quality/longevity.
