And this place is my hometown :) I’m really glad people discover my city and are fascinated. In fact, I’m fascinated too. In these 9 years I’ve spent living in another place, a lot has happened in Tianjin and so many things have changed. But the same feeling of my belonging to this city can never change.

Long ago, I was born in the Italian concession also, lived in the British concession and went to school in the French. All different now, (even the name) but vivid memories remain. Especially the street food. You can take the boy out of Tientsin, but not Tientsin out of the boy. Thanks for the update.

@@BlondieinChina Like Ear-hole fried cake (erduoyan zhagao, or 耳朵眼炸糕 in Chinese), Tangdui (which is made of Hawthron, 糖堆儿 in Chinese), Changtang, etc. These are snacks, while for breakfast, you can also try guobacai (锅巴菜), zhajuanquan (炸卷圈), doufunao (豆腐脑). For lunch or dinner, some good examples are Halal food (like beef noodle soup), shrimp with fried dough (dumianjin, or 独面筋), laobaosan (老爆三), etc.

There was even a Belgian concession in Tianjin (given as part of the Treaty In The Year Of Xin-Chou of 1901; 11 countries got goodies out of China, the 8 nations that officially invaded in 1900, plus Belgium, Spain, and The Netherlands), so if the Tintin story The Blue Lotus had taken place in Tianjin instead of in Shanghai, Tintin might have been able to claim sanctuary there in a crucial moment instead of having the Japanese and European villains all on his back. xD

All Asian from big cities (Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei) should pay a visit to Tianjin for its amazing authentic European architectures. Also Tianjin is a religious center as well, so many Mosque with a large Muslin population. I just finished a 6 days trip to Tianjin, it was an eye opening event to know that such city exist. Anyway, I stayed at Conrad for double bed and Junior Suite for Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons. The Ritz building was really amazing with its 1890 built English Victorian style previously known as the Gordon Hall. It was super classic. Tianjin's local dishes also represents the very worst part of Chinese style, super oily with heavy taste, nevertheless; it got preserved and if you like Chinese fired up dishes! Tianjin is the place to be!!

It looks like there is an ultrasonic motor that pacts the rice in a special way as he places the cups on top of the surface. A very neat method!! Just my guess. Great video! Its really amazing as the cruise was set in the early 1900s context. You will like it :')

Lol where is this? The last time i went to tianjin, i didn’t do much research and only eat goubuli and shibajie mahua and go all the way so far to binhai xin qu to go to the library. Didn’t get to go to the european district at all. Now i have to visit tianjin again but unfortunately have to go thru my least favorite city in china though.
