Dude I'm so loving this playthrough so far. You're so clear and concise for a game that has "ehh" rulebook. I couldn't understand the actions vs Status but you really helped me out. And your volume is loud! I love it, can listen at work while I work

Great play through. Excellent game. Played through this game a few times now and am currently going through the campaign again with the misses. Just entered chapter 3 and things are looking good for us. Just so you know, if you draw a ‘Rubble’, ‘Bars’ etc type card when on the Scavenging and the location you went to doesn’t have that type listed in the top left yellow area you just draw a replacement card from the exploration deck and add it to the top of the unknown deck. In effect you’re ignoring cards that are not relevant to the location and replacing them in your deck so you don’t lose time. I’d go with the vigilante watch card. You can almost count on getting a really harsh night raid at some point and it will probably happen at the worst time. For building I would look at getting resources to build either a workshop to start boarding the place up. The chair to take care of misery or the rainwater collector to free up the need to carry water back from scavenging.

@@RollingSolo I would suggest to continue as normal, because resolving 2 event cards may result in too many cold tokens and would make the game much harder. Also may have affected your decisions during the first day (i.e. building workshop as a first action and board-up as a second). Like this you will have one more day in chapter 1 and that should somewhat balance the error
I just paused the video during the fate card because I thought I missed something I was wondering how there were no Cold Tokens. Makes sense now. Great game and a really great overview and tutorial. Cheers!
I have not seen anywhere in the rules regarding how Heap piles work, so I play using Heap piles like in the video game, where you can move pass them as they are not blocking the path, it is just a pile on the ground. This means that you could search 2 heaped piles side by side if you want, or you could leave Heap piles/furniture unsearched and hidden from night raids, and still move pass them to get to another card/area on the board. This can pay off for planning ahead when your ready to build in a future round and still need a couple of extra resources.

Quick question though, I might played it wrongly, but when you draw an area card like you did with the rubble around 42:30, it was my understanding that you draw a new card from the “original exploration deck and not just continue onward with the “unknown deck”. I did not however checked that anywhere, so I might played it wrong. Sorry for my English and thanks again.
This is probably the most interesting game I've seen. All the choices you have to make about things that could actually happen to you in real life. Your playing and explanation is absolutely fantastic. Is it a single person game, or can you be multiple people? If you can be several, have you tried it and if so how was it?
This is a masterpiece game for me. A Top 3 game all time easily. I love that it’s the most raw and real board game I’ve ever played. You can play solo and control all characters or play with others and control one each. I prefer solo 100%.
@@RollingSolo You discarded the rubble and bars cards because there was no rubble or bars in the house, but I believe the text in the yellow box says that you replace them with an other exploration card
Those relate to the script book. There will be times when a card will tell you to reference them. A bunch of cards have these and the game will point you to them when it wants to! Creepy hey? I love it as it's impossible to memorize the script book.

black dots on tokens means: 1) how much action character can do? 1,2 or 3 actions in ANY order? OR 2) which action is not available to do? A), B) or C)? for example: i've got 1st black dot X O O does it mean that: 1) i can't do the A) action - i can't do actions on Shelter spaces or Fitting cards and skip 1st Action round OR 2) i can do A)actions on Shelter spaces or Fitting cards and just have 2 ANY actions? really confused
Put all the status tokens you have for a character top to bottom. One underneath the other. You’ll notice the dots line up in columns. Each of the three dots represent an action for that character. Look at the last dot across all status tokens and if a single status token has a black dot. You don’t get a third action. Next check down the second column and if there is a black dot you don’t get a second action and so on. If all are white, you get three actions. Hope that helps!
I've just now in 2023 started playing this game for about 4 hours, an I already love it! That being said, there IS some jank controls for the Switch that I hope I get used to.
I obviously missed something, but how does Boris get to do a 'fitting' action on second action phase? It looks to me like that area is outside, above porch. Is that just a free space that isn't impeded by blocked areas or ladders? If outside, wouldn't he be subject to sniper fire? Just not sure how he got there. Thanks.
Good question Jayson! The fitting space (or any space outside the house) is not impeded or blocked. The 'Outside' space is another example of this. Cheers! :)
Oh man i got this game in today and played my first day. I got ruined so badly and one of my characters commited suicide after the first day... Then i watched this video and i noticed you already had stuff in the storage before you started. I totally missed that small box during setup so i started out without anything... think i have to restart and try again >.< Great video by the way =D
So when in combat if the enemy has a hatchet, and rolling the melee die and they get the "hatchet " symbol is one of my characters insta killed ?? Rather does the insta kill aplly both ways of enemies and my character?
Great question! To be 100% sure I’d have to double check though. I actually don’t remember that case off the top of my head. Hope you’re enjoying the playthrough! :)
Sadly no?!? But i think it's safe to say that the insta kill is generally apply to everyone in combat. Also asked on BGG website. Anyways i check the forums and i guess no one else question it?! Safe to say avoid fighting. Also I've only made it thru one day .
I would keep "Vigilant Watch". The doors are a nuisance, but a Night Raid could be lethal. I love the Rubble Die, but my fist experience was not very good... In my first game I decided to use the die after the first scavenging night to try my luck. I get an "I". I went to the card... "Headshot". That first game went downhill very quickly after that. And if you have the app you can use it to open doors. You still need to have a lockpick in the inventory, but if you open the door with the app, you don't discard the lockpick.

This is a must buy for me now after watching this play through. It looks amazing. Same thing happened to me after watching your 7th Continent play through. I need to unsubscribe for my wallet's sake.
I like your explanatory play through. However there's a big negative impact on day 1 on the latest printing of the cards. After resolving the Chapter I event card, you must draw the next event in the deck. So you start the game with cold tokens and some awful thing happening. Your version of the game doesn't have that penalty. I guess the designers thought it was too easy!
I did the same with making noise because... What are the odds right? So my first noise i Made i rolled a 1... Next noise i Made i rolled a 2... This was a good start of my first time scavenging...

This answers the question I had as to why there were no cold tokens. There are always cold tokens.

Seems like a mi between Robinson Crusoe and Dead of Winter, but very grounded. Looks like an amazing experience.

The video game is brutal and fun as well. PC is the best platform to play it on but I also have it for the Switch.
