      Sam Roberts that is true. Plus it costs less to make the house in America if it was the same size as the average houses in Britain. But more if you made a British house the size of an average American house. As they are made out of different things.

    I’m an American, and also an introvert. I think I would be more accepted for that in the UK than in the US, where there’s too much social pressure
    to be loud and popular. America views quiet people as odd, shy and having low self esteem when this isn’t true at all.

      yeah i noticed i am one to with social anxiety and potentially philophobia but at least i have a higher chance with living in the uk than us
      a little story i was at a metro centre first time alone and for 4 hours i was ok for first hour but started getting stressed i coundn't leave becuase it was a school trip a few years ago, got into trouble with security guards about 3or 4 times never kicked out for a while i avoided metro centres (shopping centres or malls) but at least when i eventually went to one again different and bigger i was able to work with the staff to have something in place so nothing happened although the one i was at (at the time i came) they had an incident with somebody who screamed really loud and then just collapsed they had a serious panic attack so yeah and i know that in america the outcome will be different

      America's public transport is atrocious when compared to Britain. 'Cities more compact', have you never heard of London? Manchester maybe? Birmingham? The three major cities of the UK are not compact and arguably are made up of more expansive suburbs. Greater London is the same size as the country of Luxembourg, so please tell me how those suburbs are 'compact'.

They aren’t claiming to be authentic Scotsmen, they are a culture of their own. That’s why they can call themselves that.

    • @Laraisthebomb1212
      @Laraisthebomb1212 7 ปีที่แล้ว +62

      Healthcare is not an easy debate. The NHS means worse quality, longer wait times, less R&D, less innovation, but better access means that people don't die from curable illnesses. The American system means that they have the best surgeons, most innovative procedures and treatments, and the highest standards within their private healthcare system, but the poor have a terrible time and even die from preventable illness. It's a debate worth having - partisanship detracts often - the right values the quality, choice, effectiveness and freedom of privatisation, the left values a society where the wealthy pay a bit more so that those less fortunate can be looked after. It's not easy, as someone who has experienced both types of healthcare (the public system in the Netherlands and the private sector in New Zealand) I can say I much preferred private, however as I can afford insurance and medical bills this is obvious (who wouldn't prefer a far better product.) However, it troubles me that people have to sell their homes or even die because they can't pay to save their life, kids getting sick because they couldn't spare $50 to see the doctor. A system where children and necessary procedures (eg heart surgery rather than breast implants) are paid for publicly but run privately would be ideal - the government foots the bill for low income patients who receive the highest quality for the lowest price, basically utilising all the benefits of the free market whilst also making sure that your society is looked after. This beats both systems: avoids forcing people into insurance (obamacare), avoids low quality and inefficiency (NHS), and avoids unfairness (total free market)

      I still think the media is to blame for a lot of racial tension in the US. And I don’t think the US is as racist as they make it out to be. But, there is a barrier between whites, browns, and blacks that you can feel, like an imaginary line. In the UK everyone seemed to be more in sync with each other. It also doesn’t help that Americans are very passive. People are in the UK are way more upfront.

    Americans and English are basically brothers who've moved out of their childhood home, getting a home of their own, and constantly competing as to who can bake the best bread. This question has always intrigued me, but I'm American and I barely see the difference. We all have different problems but react to said problems the same way. Case in point: The comment section.

    I chose to live in England as there are so many costs and taxes in the States it eats your wage. Couldn’t believe the cost of everyday groceries in Walmart compared to Tesco, it was like double! Running a car can be cheaper in the States but the cars in England are usually more efficient. The biggest thing for me however was convenience. In the States I had to drive miles just do do a basic shop. Here in England even small towns have everything I need within a small walk. Both countries are great in their own way, I guess it just depends on how you live your life.

    Hang on, america has more billionaires because the population is greatly bigger. In America, 0.00017% of people are billionaires, but in the UK, 0.0002% of people are billionaires, so technically we have more in relation to population size...

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The UK has between 45 and 54 billionaires depending on who is reporting it, so we'll say 54 in a population of 66.65 million or 0.81 per 1 million population. The US has between 585 and 614 billionaires (we'll use 585) in a population of 328 million or 1.78 per 1 million population. That means that the US has more than twice as many billionaires per capita than the UK has (220% as many billionaires per capita than the UK when comparing the minimum reported number for the US and the maximum for the UK).

    • @ellaf3877
      @ellaf3877 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Rich i used the figures from the video itself- 134 for the uk and 565 for america as that would provide an even basis as they must have been from reliable(ish) sources for the video to use them. Plus it also depends on whether £1bn or $1bn is used, since 1bn pounds is 1.2bn dollars. On the sunday times rich list, 148 people are listed as having atleast 1bn pounds, and 123 have 1.2bn pounds or more- which is the equivalent of being a billionaire in america (1bn dollars) . But then in an article by CNBC, the uk is stated as having 93, showing how is can change depending on who reports it, hence why I used data from the video as the sources must have been the same or trustworthy.
      Ultimately, i wasn't trying to make a statement about the uk being better, I just wanted to put it into perspective that the us population is almost 5 times bigger or something like that, so naturally they would have more billionaires, which is something the video neglected to mention.

      MOBILE SPECS i think so. I don't think its wildly more, but it could be a bit more. dfirthc An actual 5"11 is on the tall side for all countries. Average American male is roughly 5'9, average British male slightly less. Those numbers are from studies where heights were measured, not self reported. On that note, however, there are several "studies" giving different numbers which calls into question how accurate any of them are and how representative the samples are. Why use measured over self-reported? Because just like women lie about their weight, rounding down, males tend to up their height more than what they actually are.

The Republic of Ireland is a separate sovereign state, but Northern Ireland is part of the UK, not the Republic of Ireland. Have you never heard of the Troubles? According to Americans on Quora describing their experiences visiting/living in the UK compared to US, 2 things that they noted was our higher standard of public transport, a well connected and far reaching network thus a car is, for plenty: a non-essential, that said majority of households have at least one car, usually 2 where I live.
    Obviously it helps that we are geographically smaller to establish such a country wide network.
    Secondly; that there are a lot of ‘helicopter parents’ in the US, parents will drive their teens from one thing to the next, even if it’s a mile away (apparently walking to places is less of a ‘thing’ too), whereas here teens will often just make their own way to places they want to go (due to public transport/walking etc) yes parents do give lifts too if getting there is particularly tricky, but it’s not as extreme as in US, where the teens are more dependent on parents’ cars. I’m told this is partly due to some ‘state of constant fear’ that’s seeped into US culture since the 1980/90s, some blame their media (adverts, TV/Film) for hyping up a false sense of danger everywhere, and less inclusivity of different cultures in communities. It’s both interesting and sad.
    But anyway that (to me) explains why cars are of particular importance and popularity to Americans. I just hope they all switch to eco-friendly fuel types soon, more powerful than some realise too. (According to Robert Llewelyn [Kryten, to us] and he is now a convert and expert on it).
