Although I have never been a great lover of sports-themed video games (except car racing), I simply loved this game when I was a kid. The idea to running my character in sync with the speed the keys were tapped, gave me an idea of great empathy with the game and interactivity (in an age in which I didn't even know the meaning of this word). Also, I don't know why, but I really liked those little men, athletic versions of Super Mario, all of them equal to each other but the colours. From an early age I noticed a surprise: sometimes is visible a the little man with the key that is seen running under the audience. He is the protagonist of another arcade game: Tutankham (1982 Konami). A real Easter egg!
me and my mates smashed all records on this game back in the 80s working together in game. 1 person would look after each button. To maximise speed we used a plastic coin tube over your finger and rubbed it across the button rather than tap it. Good times
I would man the jump button while my buddy ran and we broke all high scores. Watching this brings back everything including that air conditioning old carpet smell of the arcades I played this in
I used to put my fingers in a Kinder Egg capsule to slide over the run buttons, particularly good on machines where the buttons were arranged in a close triangle.
@@wutang6020 hypersports has weightlifting, bow n arrow, swimming, trap shoot. and some funky ass triple long jump too.....and like billygunn said, this game was also called track n field
Does this game have more games on it? I'm looking for a game I played when I was a kid It had rollerskating, running, allsorts of different games in one
En internet te puedes descargar el programa mame 32 y ahí estan casi todos los juegos q habían en los recreativos y te puedes comprar un joystick guapo por menos de 40€ y a recordar viejos tiempos
NO CHEAT and this is why: I remember playing it in a pup in Belgium back in '83-''84...also remember that instead of buttons to tap and run it had a joy stick you had to move quickly back and forward. This made it possible to run much faster/improve results during the various jumping / throwing events This coin up machine stood in a public pup, so fair play guaranteed an NO cheating

So nostalgic.. I was so bad at this game, but I enjoyed it like a cold beer in a Summer's afternoon
I remember this at Mentone Ten Pin Bowling in the early 80,s ... The buttons were worn out 👍
It was at Ringwood Lanes for me. Or sometimes Box Hill Bowl.
@@railtrolley those were the days hey ... The good old days 👍
Good old days, never forget this game. Had many broken joysticks...
I Never had joysticks for this game, just buttons.
And buttons... those poor buttons!
J'ai joué des heures avec ce jeu mythique. Quel bon souvenir ! Merci pour la vidéo.
Master of this game in my childhood .
None of the boys and girls, was even remotely close to beat my records.
Man...This brought me back, a piece of my brain just opened up...Thanks
Was habe ich das Spiel damals geliebt
I remember when the Olympics came when we was younger we all ran to the arcade to play this game to try to put our name up top for number one
I thought the third javelin throw was going to be an attempt to stab the bird.
I still have sore fingers thanks to this barsteward of a game.
Surprised that someone who is so good at the earlier events hasn't mastered the hammer and high jump yet.
Hahaha
Timing, Nobody would take the time to work on that they only wanted to be fast in running and hope to get through the hammer throw and high jump...

At the arcade we used a lighter to roll over the 2 buttons instead of trying to push them.
I remember using a cigarette lighter back and forth across the running button to get more speed. Good memories. Good times.
i used a shampoo bottle top, same thing worked well!
I still have my Nintendo with me and there's something I can not let go
I used to put my fingers in a Kinder Egg capsule to slide over the run buttons, particularly good on machines where the buttons were arranged in a close triangle.
Pressing the button halfway through the last box should get at least 90 m in the hammer throw.
Always loved this game, and now I have on my DS, on a Konami Compilation
I thnk this was also called "Track & Field" @the 7eleven where i used to play it as a kid...🙃
BillyGunn or possibly hyper sports? 😉👍

@@josephlalock8378 is that the one where you swim and if you don't come up for water in time it goes "KIIIBUT KIIIIIIIIBUT KIIIIIIIIIIIIIUBT"
I recall that continually pressing the "run" keys during the various jumping / throwing events would improve the results.
Christian Strasser thats right!
Who remembers using a comb to press both buttons and get crazy speed? :D
Rinduuu zaman main game ni.... Sanggup tak pergi main bola kt padang petang2..
WOOOOO!!! in honour of Tokyo 2020 I thought I would check out this classic game haha
We used to love this game. We would use the bic lighter technique to get high scores.
my mum used to play this when she was my age :)
I was 11/12yo
This game was joystick killer :)
Several summer in the 80's I had missing patches of skin in my palm.

Yo lo jugaba de niño. Que emoción volverlo a ver....
The Mexican Flag looks Sick!
¡Viva Mexico!
That athlete looks like I did in the 80's. Moustache 'n' mullet.
ボタンの上に20センチ位の定規置いて端をしならせると、楽に記録更新できました。懐かしい・・・
I always used to use a AA battery to run back and forth over the run button really fast to make the guy run faster
