Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him) was sent by Allah (SWT) to convey the message of Islam to the people of Nineveh, a city known for its disobedience and polytheism. Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him) gave them a warning from Allah (SWT) , but they rejected and denied it.
