It’s getting “fuzzy” because the friction from the orbital sander is melting the plastic and then it’s cooling and hardening. As someone else said, high-build primer and sand and repeat, then paint and clear with high grit sanding between coats. It’s almost impossible to sand that plastic cleanly and evenly, especially with a power sander.
Hi, Thanks for the Video. Could you let us know why you sold the VB? or maybe just a short video on your experience? Im slowing leaning towards the VB, your info would help! Not too excited to spend this kind of money if I am going to be better of keeping my 2019?
Nice Job & Looks Great.. Wondering if anyone has tried: 1st, using 400 grit light sanding but not removing texture 2nd- Apply adhesion promoter 3rd, Apply a few coats of HI Build primer 4th, Apply color base coat 5th Apply 2k clear Ive always been taught to use adhesion promoter when painting plastics. *Unsure if this would take care of covering texture or not?
Hey Louis, since the primer has a minimal texture on it I never had problems with paint peeling. I’ve only used adhesion promoter on parts that aren’t prepped properly. Not a bad added step though.
You're going to have to elaborate on your question @jimmijames23. Sides meaning just the sideskirts? the video also talks about how many cans I used and how much I would estimate for a whole car. As a rule of thumb, a can a part is about right give or take.
@@JimmiJames23 I'll admit that's a bit outside of my element but I would expect that the employees at the paint shop would be able to give you advice on that. I believe they can either mix the pearls into the basecoat or supply you with the necessary paints. sorry I couldn't help more.
Leaving the texture you will end up with that same texture in your finished product. That's up to you to decide if you're wanting that. Personally I wanted it smooth.
Almost painful to watch. Pro-tip “high build primer” First barely scuff the piece with 180 then wipe down the piece with mineral spirits ..then give it 2-3 coats of high build primer and the honey comb will be gone! Now sand and paint. Don’t waste time actually sanding your plastic down. Sand primer. 👍🏼🤷🏼♂️ I still love you tho. 😂
Fantastic advice! I don't think the pro shop that did my bumper used highbuild primer without sanding down the texture first. I'm sure there's better ways to do this but I was very happy with my results.
Judging by the responses some people have done that. I don't like using filler too much as when materials expand and contract sometimes it can cause cracking.

Absolutely love the way you format your videos. Going to miss the VB content but Im looking forward to whatever else you end up doing.
Super appreciate that! thank you!
I dig this video. When I painted my parts, I left the texture on there. It works well on the ISM!
Does it still look good like that? I want it to do it myself but i don’t wanna ruin it since I don’t have that much money jaja
Great video! As much as I’d like to do it myself this looks like you need a ton of patience. Phenomenal job man🎉
Absolutely appreciate it! I hope you follow along with the rest of content!
Great video quality & instructions man!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for the video..!! Planning to DIY instead paying thousands.. end result was good 👍🏻

Great suggestion! I may do that soon!
Hey, which Napa did you go to? You live in Fresno, right? Apparently not all Napa’s do paint matching.
You're correct, theres a Napa Paint store. specifically for paint.
If using paint with flex agents in them, do you need to sand down the textured surface or the arch molding?

I haven’t seen you use adhesion promoter unless it’s in your primer? And sanding the texture off is the best way . Great job looks good

I did my flares and bumper I know on raw plastic it’s always good to use . But you did a nice job looks really good.
How long did you let the paint dry between the coats? Thank you so much for the step by step process!
You're so welcome! I enjoy making these videos. I waited for 35 minutes to an hour between coats
@hapawerks How many cans did you use on the sides? Meaning primer and base and clear?

@@Hapawerks do you know anything about a tri coat aka mid coat. Since I have 22 Wrx WR BLUE PEARL I’m just wondering how many md coats

You need a respirator esp. with the 2k clear, which is very poisonous.
Agreed, I typically wear one!
do you have to sand it or will it come out fine just leaving the texture
Leaving the texture you will end up with that same texture in your finished product. That's up to you to decide if you're wanting that. Personally I wanted it smooth.
Why are you trading in the car
Looks good, I am bound to mess that up bad so I think mine will stay as is 😂 nice job
Thanks 👍

Imma try that now

Did you just say youre trading the car back in?
Following
I did! I may make a video explaining why soon!

Why’re you trading the car back in?
Money it’s always money
Anyone having issues with paint chipping etc since it’s usually plastic in that spot ?
Link to the paint and clear coat?
For the paint I am going to have you watch the portion where I explain where to buy the paint from. for the clear coat, search 2k clear on amazon.
The plastic crap is the main reason I haven’t gotten it yet good luck with it
Just replace them with seibon carbon ;)
Lots of solutions for this are out now! Hope you enjoy your new future WRX soon ;)
I know you an sand it but couldn't you just use a light weight filler instead
Judging by the responses some people have done that. I don't like using filler too much as when materials expand and contract sometimes it can cause cracking.
another huge advise to give everyone even YOU is please wear a damn respirator.
Thank you!
hahah no match paint white
