    Since I started studying as much as possible about swing weight , grip weight , head weigthing , shaft flex and weight , and how it all affects your swing and golf game, I have improved very much. The more you can learn about the science of this game ,the better.
    Also the availability of decent launch moitors made a huge difference..
    I remember some one saying years ago , its amazing how it even happens..( the golf swing )
    35 years of playing and Still learning !! Thanks Gary..

      @garymartingolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Jack. I completely agree! The more you learn, the more it all makes sense! What I find crazy, is because people don’t have ‘proper’ fittings, there’s a perception that fittings don’t really do much, which even I could of believed to some extent until getting into real detail with Sam.

    Thanks for doing this test. Golfers should also keep a few other things in mind that change swing-weight. Lengthening or shortening the shaft. Changing to different shaft weight. Changing grip weight (including going to a different size and using extra wraps of tape) all affect swing-weight. Also, for me, a club that is too light makes it difficult to repeat the swing precisely, leading to toe and heel mishits as well as bottoming out before and after the ball (no consistency).

      No issue bring open, when I did my PGA training, custom fitting and golf club building was such a small part of the programme. Since qualifying, I’ve been on many manufacturer fitting and training courses and read a lot on manufactures websites about shaft specs / ball flight characteristics, but neither have ever broadened my knowledge on swing weight and how it can change ball flight.
      How did you gain your knowledge?

    Dude, this was a great video on Technical aspect of the game. What is a good driver spin rate for a 53 y/o female golfer? Do I need more spin for carry distance? I prefer a smaller head which seem to be consider LS drivers but I loved the old Callaway TD 815.

    • @garymartingolf
      @garymartingolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s more based on your club speed and angle of attack. You should be able to find an optimal spin rate chart on Google if you know your club speed and launch.
      I’d start by trying to get your numbers. Maybe try to book a practice session on a launch monitor if you’re trying to figure it out yourself without a club fit.

    Fascinating stuff. I have been fitted for clubs only once, and if I tell you that was for a new set of Ping Eye 2 irons you can work out how long ago that was, very little tech back then other than a measuring chart and a bit of tape on the bottom of the club, Drivers were non adjustable of course, I had a Callaway VFT Hawkeye back then :)

    Love it!
    Just got a gen 5, AND gotten a set of weights.
    Lots of driver sessions on the range ahead!
    A little more weight in the draw biased and back than the 7.5’s I have now (I’m thinking 10 and 12.5 respectively), should get my slice down, and my ball flight up.
    The problem is that the range balls are really different than my gaming balls, especially spin wise. Now, I can take my Garmin R10 on course, but hitting like 4 drives, running up to collect them, playing one ball out. Go to next tee, change weights, set up R10 hit another four shots, etc. Etc. I’m not sure how the other players behind me are going to feel about that 😢

    Q about a theory.....for faster SS players, using a heavy grip for counterbalancing allows you to add weight back to the head for more mass on the ball at impact without making swing weight totally crazy.
    Would love to hear your ideas on that.

  • @jonmwin
    @jonmwin ปีที่แล้ว

    • @garymartingolf

      Unfortunately, most likely not. It’s impossible to be the best at everything, with the new knowledge and awareness, we will be able to offer better advise, but this service is definitely a premium fitting service, requiring someone who purely fits and is willing to buy all the swing weights for all clubs.

  • @BirtDill

    Gary, how can you have worked in golf for 20yrs + and not understand what swing weight is and how it can impact feel and performance? PGA training covers this?

    • @garymartingolf
      @garymartingolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      PGA training didn’t go into much depth about club building, and since qualifying, I’ve never built a golf club, so my knowledge about club building has never expanded.
      In terms of custom fitting, swing weight has never been discussed by any manufacturers during training days, which I guess is because the retailers and shops (like most) I have worked for have never had a swing weight machine or any additional weights to change swing weights during fittings.
      Any learning I have done through club websites has only added confusion, so until seeing sam, I was more focused on shaft mass for trajectory, not fully understanding the importance of swing weight for direction and fine tuning launch / spin.
