If the Host's spores are being used to do this, why does it show that the victims of this deadly mind controlling powder are reaching for it at the end of the commercial, HMMMMMMMMMMM? I'm unsure if that's an intentional choice by Darian or if they are minor errors. For instance, in the mimic video, the Canadian government updates the procedure to include immobilizing the mimic with weapons where the document said it's pointless, the harvester video show them migrating. HOW? they're immobile we have assumed but maybe not. Additionally, in the Harvester documentary, they are said to let the prey bleed out before burying for further breakdown. And perhaps I'm trusting that comment section too much, but people were saying the daughter and mom got stung and burried alive and decomposed alive which is what we see in the video. Unless we are to assume that's artistic license by Darian, which could also be possible, great SFX on that Darian btw. To the point on Hosts, based on speculation of the fans, it's reasonable to assume the cult, in this case using the food company as a cover, is trying to spread the influence to more people. I'm pretty confident in asserting that the graph is bs. It's possibly accurate, but I doubt it. I think we the viewers of this can reasonably assume that the cult is using spores as a concentrated or a severely diluted powder to get it into the open market. I doubt health and safety would let it last long, but I'm assuming Darian has some answer for that. The problem comes down to the motives are, and what this powder spore actually does. The spores effect life was 36 hrs, it's possible that the lab they made the seasoning in is further than 36 hours away, and possibly if it's pheromone based or some such bs, then maybe the changed spores aren't actually capable of rendering the full normative effect. Otherwise there's a lot more speculation we can do, but personally idk. Motive is always tricky. If the spores do have their normal effect then perhaps the cult wants to bait people to specific places to be livestock for the meatstrocities like the giant worm from the tunnel. or perhaps the diluted effect taps people into the wavelengths that the meatstrocities exists on and will in the future use that. The harvesters are migrating and somehow that is being told to all of them, though they are connected to plants so idk. the trimmings do like radio broadcasts and possibly this video shows that something is starting to effect the analog signals, but we need more info. I’ve actually Put out the entire stock a flavor enhancer in my area, and therefore can no longer eat, so I’m losing weight rapidly! Absolutely adore the subtle horror in this video. It’s hard to spot on first viewing, but the way the advertisements become increasingly lower in effort and quality as the meals keep getting simpler is very effective. Imo, one of the best episodes in the series just because of how creative it is.

Me initially: what does flavor enhancer have to do with these meat abominations. Me half way through the video: no.. they wouldn’t… no… no it can’t be.. NOOOOOOOO!! *spoiler if you haven’t figured it out, the spice is made out of the spores released by the host, hence the hypnotic drug like state you go into when you eat it. My theory: because the hosts spores are ment to be inhaled, it travels to the brain through the blood stream faster, not unlike how you snort booger sugar to a good high. ERGO when said spores are ingested, the effect is a lot slower but also quite addicting. This is why when the bigger pack is shown, we begin to see the commercial distort and resemble what a “bad trip” would look like. It is unknown that if ingested the victim will seek out any host considering the effect the spores are suppose to have on you.

Before I saw the ending, I was theorizing that it was a flavor agent marketed to human mimics and the increase in sales corresponded to a rising human mimic population. The reason for the product would have been to make normal food palatable to the mimics as they try to blend into human society, as nothing that humans eat would taste good to a mimic. Now it seems more like it is meant for humans to eat as a way to unlock some sort of ravenous primordial hunger for flesh or something. You have a gift. This is absolutely captivating. I love the banal elements, where the horror is that it's so... normal. I really enjoy the bits that feel very detailed and scientific, and I adore the way the documentary gives evidently useless advice when it comes to self defense. There is so much to dig into with this series and I wholeheartedly admire your ability to create this world. And the storybook element really helps to tie things together in a way that leaves enough to the imagination but still gives us some more solid lore background. It feels cohesive.

Interesting little detail, but at one point in the ad it mentions applying the flavour enhancer on a food item at below 60 degrees Celsius for the best result. This is actually within the “danger zone” for bacterial growth in food items (5-60 degrees). By doing this the spores are able to fester more effectively as a way to give the mind control a stronger effect.

I can’t see it perfectly, but I see biscuits, fried / otherwise cooked cauliflower that looks incredibly crispy, and either soup or gravy. I am a college student living in the US. I haven’t eaten anything other than fast food, old pasta that never fails to make me sick, and food that was too old for the food court to sell but not old enough for them to donate for the past 4-6 months (I have genuinely lost count). I've come up with a creature concept for the Vita Carnis. Dunno if u would use it (I doubt u will even see this nor use it). Name: Hanging Mouth (tentorium oris) Location: large forests around warmer areas (like rainforest) Appearance: the Hanging Mouth appears as a large worm like creature which hangs from the thick branches of tall trees. Measuring around 20-30 meters or 65-98 foot. This creature wraps the majority of its body around the branch it resides on, using it for support, and leaves enough of its to be able to stretch to the floor. The Hanging Mouth will then contract it's body to prevent animals from spotting it easily. Hunting method: Once an animal (around the same size as what a harvester would attack) is below the HM it will slowly extend its tongue down and stab the animal with the teeth like protrusions. A toxin causing immediate paralysis will be injected into the animal, rendering it vulnerable to the Hanging Mouth. The HM then stretches down to the animal and begins to consume it whole. After swallowing the animal it closes its mouth to stop it from falling out, begins to go back up to the branch and digests its meal. Remaining dormant for a few hours due to the slow digestion process. Avoidance: check high branches and make sure you can't see it, if you find yourself beneath one run away as fast as possible. The Hanging Mouth's tongue moves very slowly so you should be able to get out of it's range. If you are stabbed by the tongue then someone will have to drag you away very quickly or else it will be your end.

On the other hand, Crawl might be similar to black coral, as in having a skeleton made out of chitin (it contains nitrogen*, which explains why Crawl makes a good fertilizer**). Plus black corals are not hard, like one might assume; they're soft and flexible. AND they come in many colors, one of which is... red. *this is also why carnivorous plants eat insects: they grow near swamps, on nutrient-poor soil, so they get their nitrogen from insect exoskeletons! **among other things. Crawl is literally all meat aka protein, and proteins also contain nitrogen in their structure

The fact that the temperature has to be kept below 60°C is an interesting details. I'm guessing the flavor enhancer are actually living cells or spores, the same that infect the individuals & mess with their frontal lobe to be devoured. Thermal death begins at around 50°C & more for spores, so keeping it low assures they stay alive. Someone must've found a way to use them to enhance flavors since they mess with the frontal lobe, a region that literally touches the gustatory cortex (the one responsible for the sense of taste). Perhaps altering the sense of taste & smell is what the spores originally do to make their victims like the smell & taste of the Host of Influence, and the company have found a way to reduce their effect on the frontal lobe (which plays a role in voluntary movements) while keeping their effect on the gustatory cortex.

My theory bits: So, its obviously spores. But they CAN'T be Host spores, otherwise people would be dying to these things at an alarming rate, plus theyre rare.
This is obviously either A, Host spores and we just dont know all there is to know about Hosts yet, or B, something else entirely that we dont know about yet. Either way, this is meant to be addicting, and likely dumb people down to be less aware of dangers. Mimics and Harvesters have to be fed somehow

I find it interesting how the symbol of Prince's flag, supposedly the one of his kingdom, is revealed to be the same one the Nutrire Co. has. Does it mean this story is meant to present the company in a good light, as a savior of humanity, or does it mean the company has learned something about the Carnis species that made them work to help the creatures by giving them humans as food? Can it be that the members of the company are secretly cultists spoken about in earlier newspaper clippings and they use humans as sacrifices?
As other people have commented, Flavor Enhancer, the insistence of it being used for every single meal and it's resemblance to Host spores could help with that.

This is a prediction far into the future, but I think that the Prince is going to seek revenge on the family and force them to become slaves to his power, kind of like how Nutrire Co is making this crazy mind controlling ripoff of a pepper shaker.
Absolutely adore the subtle horror in this video. It’s hard to spot on first viewing, but the way the advertisements become increasingly lower in effort and quality as the meals keep getting simpler is very effective. Imo, one of the best episodes in the series just because of how creative it is.

*spoiler if you haven’t figured it out, the spice is made out of the spores released by the host, hence the hypnotic drug like state you go into when you eat it.
My theory: because the hosts spores are ment to be inhaled, it travels to the brain through the blood stream faster, not unlike how you snort booger sugar to a good high. ERGO when said spores are ingested, the effect is a lot slower but also quite addicting.
This is why when the bigger pack is shown, we begin to see the commercial distort and resemble what a “bad trip” would look like.
It is unknown that if ingested the victim will seek out any host considering the effect the spores are suppose to have on you.

I Love flavour enhancer, its so refreshing to have in every meal.
Before I saw the ending, I was theorizing that it was a flavor agent marketed to human mimics and the increase in sales corresponded to a rising human mimic population. The reason for the product would have been to make normal food palatable to the mimics as they try to blend into human society, as nothing that humans eat would taste good to a mimic. Now it seems more like it is meant for humans to eat as a way to unlock some sort of ravenous primordial hunger for flesh or something.
You have a gift. This is absolutely captivating. I love the banal elements, where the horror is that it's so... normal. I really enjoy the bits that feel very detailed and scientific, and I adore the way the documentary gives evidently useless advice when it comes to self defense. There is so much to dig into with this series and I wholeheartedly admire your ability to create this world.
And the storybook element really helps to tie things together in a way that leaves enough to the imagination but still gives us some more solid lore background. It feels cohesive.

Oh no, weaponized Seasoned Salt, in all seriousness one of the more close to home weird things in this world's ecosystem/sphere. Usually these kind of series are entirely based around strange consumer products or don't include them at all, never really a true natural blend. With this entire series seeming to be focused around consumption I can't wait to see where this node of it heads.

As for the flavor enhancer, maybe it was made by highly intelligent mimics, or even host to blend and somehow gain an advantage in hunting. The trimmings may be a spy for the vita carnis species, dwelling in the homes of people and communicating via radio waves from the TV and the radio. The monoliths could be the radio station, broadcasting the trimmings info. This may turn into a war between 2 intelligent species.
Edit: the flavor enhancer seems to be a powder. This leads me to believe that host spores may be mixed in. This will serve an advantage because it will reduce numbers of humans and create plenty of food. The meat snakes seem powerful and huge. They will probably be the main attackers or soldiers of the vita

This is actually within the “danger zone” for bacterial growth in food items (5-60 degrees). By doing this the spores are able to fester more effectively as a way to give the mind control a stronger effect.

I am a college student living in the US. I haven’t eaten anything other than fast food, old pasta that never fails to make me sick, and food that was too old for the food court to sell but not old enough for them to donate for the past 4-6 months (I have genuinely lost count).

My theory is that since all the other videos were following the order of the creatures shown, this one would portray the Host of influence, but his spores instead of it itself, the product obviously presents different effects, but still affects the brain, which perhaps comes from the fact that it's being ingested instead of inhaled, or maybe it is being altered in some way, but I prefer to believe that it is the spore in its natural form that is being marketed for the purpose of something bigger, the paranormal leap from the Host to the Monolith was quite big, I believe there is more we don't know about

I've come up with a creature concept for the Vita Carnis. Dunno if u would use it (I doubt u will even see this nor use it).
Name: Hanging Mouth (tentorium oris)
Location: large forests around warmer areas (like rainforest)
Appearance: the Hanging Mouth appears as a large worm like creature which hangs from the thick branches of tall trees. Measuring around 20-30 meters or 65-98 foot. This creature wraps the majority of its body around the branch it resides on, using it for support, and leaves enough of its to be able to stretch to the floor. The Hanging Mouth will then contract it's body to prevent animals from spotting it easily.
Hunting method: Once an animal (around the same size as what a harvester would attack) is below the HM it will slowly extend its tongue down and stab the animal with the teeth like protrusions. A toxin causing immediate paralysis will be injected into the animal, rendering it vulnerable to the Hanging Mouth. The HM then stretches down to the animal and begins to consume it whole. After swallowing the animal it closes its mouth to stop it from falling out, begins to go back up to the branch and digests its meal. Remaining dormant for a few hours due to the slow digestion process.
Avoidance: check high branches and make sure you can't see it, if you find yourself beneath one run away as fast as possible. The Hanging Mouth's tongue moves very slowly so you should be able to get out of it's range. If you are stabbed by the tongue then someone will have to drag you away very quickly or else it will be your end.

Although these studies on the coloration of plants are pretty recent, so you can't blame the author for not knowing something!
On the other hand, Crawl might be similar to black coral, as in having a skeleton made out of chitin (it contains nitrogen*, which explains why Crawl makes a good fertilizer**). Plus black corals are not hard, like one might assume; they're soft and flexible. AND they come in many colors, one of which is... red.
*this is also why carnivorous plants eat insects: they grow near swamps, on nutrient-poor soil, so they get their nitrogen from insect exoskeletons!

The fact that the temperature has to be kept below 60°C is an interesting details. I'm guessing the flavor enhancer are actually living cells or spores, the same that infect the individuals & mess with their frontal lobe to be devoured. Thermal death begins at around 50°C & more for spores, so keeping it low assures they stay alive.
Someone must've found a way to use them to enhance flavors since they mess with the frontal lobe, a region that literally touches the gustatory cortex (the one responsible for the sense of taste).
Perhaps altering the sense of taste & smell is what the spores originally do to make their victims like the smell & taste of the Host of Influence, and the company have found a way to reduce their effect on the frontal lobe (which plays a role in voluntary movements) while keeping their effect on the gustatory cortex.
