"I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black women in sports when nobody believes in you. You had a tough job. All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year & when your back was against the wall, you always believed. I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life. We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever. I’ll never question God why he brings people in my life and takes them away from me in the capacity that I need them but i’ve always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon.

I am not a Chicago fan. However, I love and respect TSpoon from her playing days. I think she a good coach in my opinion. TSpoon accepted Carter for who she was and gave her a second and Carter did make some improvements.

@ART19513 just like you I became a sky fan because of Coach spoon. She has an admirable legacy. I wanted her to succeed badly. She handled Carter better than any coach ever has. Carter’s overly aggressive style of play lessened as the season went on. This is just sad.

Back in 1987 the Chicago Bulls drafted two promising front court players (Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant)….The promising young coach(Doug Collins),was a former player and an emotional leader…. And out the Blue he was fired…the city of Chicago was stunned…This seems so eerie similar…but at least they gave Collins a few years…I hope they know what they’re doing,it will take a special type of coach to co exist with strong personalities like Angel Reese and Carter.

What was the reasoning the organization gave for her firing? Their offense did look a mess at times, but they were projected to have the worst record before the seaon anayways. I think they kinda exceeded expectations given all the injuries, trades, etc.

C'mon, the Dallas Wings finished right below Chicago at 11th in the standings because of player injury losses in major parts of the 2024 season. Same thing could be said of the in the cellar Los Angeles Sparks, if they would have both not been hampered with injuries Chicago might have otherwise finished down in the bottom two teams in the standings, the idea they exceeded expectations is only outward, cosmetically speaking.

That’s so not fair. A coach needs at least 2 years. She had players new to the league. It doesn’t make any sense. I was rooting for coach Spoon 🥄 and the Sky team. You really can tell she cared about the players and that makes a difference in team morale. You play harder when you actually like and are comfortable with your coach.

This firing is surprising, it just makes you wonder what was going on behind the scenes. I saw another video this morning that was talking about Angel's podcast with Sheryl Swoopes. On that podcast, which was recorded before Tspoon being fired, Angel asks Sheryl if she would coach her and she said yes. So needless to say that has sparked some discussion now on whether Angel and Sheryl knew something. Will Sheryl Swoopes be the next coach of the Sky???

Why. Not exactly a secret that the Chicago lockerroom was a mess, they were by far the most undisciplined team in the league, multiple players requested a trade. All of this falls on leadership, specifically the head coach. The egregious way they intentionally stat padded for Reese such as having Reese - an average at best free throw shooter - being the one to shoot tech free throws to get her points 100% rubbed players the wrong way, even Chennedy Carter who is a complete malcontent. This should be no surprise, they were rudderless and the ownership is privy to what was going on in the lockeroom more than fans

Glad Angel got plenty of time/experience this year but the approach, using one of the statistically worst offensive players in wnba history as a close to primary option, was always gonna piss off some/alot of the other players on the team.

If you look at how much time it took the fever to overcome its issues, and after one year you expected her to come in and make the playoffs the first year. You have 12 teams of the best in the world. In my opinion, with the obstacles they had, I think they did pretty good.

After the Sun game when Carter committed the flagrant foul on Mabrey, and Marina said post game "there's layers to this s that i can't address publicly" (paraphrase) I think we know that there was locker room division, and the coach chose Carter over Mabrey, so Mabrey chose to leave.
Without Mabrey, the team went 3-13.
The exit interviews helped the team figure out that Weatherspoon chose chaos and losing over professionalism and stability. I'm guessing in addition to Harrison & Evans (and Mabrey obviously) other players also wished for stability. DeShields? Allen? Turner? Cardoso?
I'm thinking ownership agreed with team stability over team chaos. I also think an environmentof stability will be better overall for Angel Reese's career development. I hope Chicago can provide that.
Quita is in a state of shock over this firing. Just because players like a coach, it doesn't always mean that the coach is doing a good job. The best coaches are those who get the most out of their players. Wasn't it Angel Reese who said that Weatherspoon was, "too nice?" Weatherspoon reminds me of a parent who never wants to discipline her children and then is left wondering why her children don't live up to her expectations and take control of their mom's house because mom lets them do whatever they want.
When the team goes backward, the coach goes first. If the coach couldn't properly use Mabrey, and she left for Connecticut, there was a serious problem with the coaching. Probably problems higher up too. I doubt Reese considers what is best for the team, since she is the featured player. Others were not that happy with the coaching.

The fact of the matter is this. The Chicago Sky hired their head coach Teresa Weatherspoon before they hired their GM Jeff Pagliocca. Teresa Weatherspoon got fired after her first season coaching The Sky. The Chicago Sky should have hired Jeff Pagliocca first before they hired coach Weatherspoon. As Weatherspoon was probably not the coach that Pagliocca wanted. If Jeff Pagliocca had a different coaching candidate in mind, it might explain why Teresa Weatherspoon's tenure was short-lived. This situation showcases the importance of having a cohesive leadership structure in sports organizations.

No surprise to me....I did not think she was disciplined in her approach with this team....to me she lost the lockeroom and one presser gave a glimpse of it with banging and screaming in the lockeroom....once you lose the lockeroom you never get it back. Also, a little early hint showed when Mabrey left and then they flagrant fouled her and she was seen laughing about. I think more will come out. As for Reese and Cordoso they need a coach that can turn these two players into a low post ballet which was also evident was not happening with Reese/Cardoso
