I try to be constantly working on learning new skills, and one that I have been wanting to learn is machine way scraping, a skill I plan to use when I rebuild my 1960 13" South Bend Lathe. There are a bunch of new tools I will need to accomplish this, and a straight edge is one of them. I picked up this 18" prism straight edge as a raw casting from Denis Foster. The first step in preparing this raw casting to become a useful tool is to machine all of the necessary surfaces.

Thanks. This is an extended length video of a shorter one I did a few months ago. If you look at my past videos, you'll see where I started to scrape it. And I also did an update of it in an odds & ends video.

If you read the description, this is almost 3 hours of nearly unedited video. Some people like to see more machining so I left most of it in this version.

Traditional Black "Japaning" inside ?
Great idea, but beyond what I know how to do. I just used some blue spray paint. I'll have to do some research into japaning if I make another one.
