I wish Maquia had a whole anime series where she makes new relationships and travels with Barlow(the merchant) around the world, helping others out. And then at the end of it, it would reveal Maquia as a history professor telling all these ancient stories to little kids for fun and university students in a very advanced society. It would be SO FREAKING AWESOME!

When I ask people for a good and touching anime movies, why they always mentioned Your Name and Silent Voice but almost no one mentioned this masterpiece? Now that I just found this movie coincidentally.. Its like a hidden gem
I'm pretty sure that Barlow, the half-Iorphian guy, is the son of the eldar Rashine. That would explain her advise about not falling in love with a human in the beginning and why Barlow is always so sarcastic. Rashine must have had a true romantic love story with a human and when her son left her and her beloved man died of old age she felt alone for the first time...
You bet. If you're interested in a similar anime with onion recipes, then watch "In this corner of the world"/"Kono sekai no katasumi ni". Fun fact: It has onion recipes _literally AND figuratively_ ;)
I finally decided to watch this and now my tears won't stop falling. 😭 I already started crying from the moment Ariel left her and found out that he's already starting a family of his own to the scene where he call her "MOM" again until this ending. It's been so long since an anime movie made me cry this much until my headaches after grave of the fireflies and who's left behind 😭 Tell me, How can I move on from this movie?
no movie has made me tear up or cry, then i saw this with my mum i was absolutely broken. especially by the end, i then had a heart to heart talk with mum and told her how much i appreicate her and what shes done. this movie really makes you think and often you will make connections to it and parrallels to your own life. Treasure your parents, they have done much for you. Remember they wont be here forever.
Ariel had always say "Welcome back" whenever Maquia comes home... He said it with his last breath too. 💔 I don't know what more is much heartbreaking than saying goodbye to the person you love
I cried so much that even the memory of this scene makes me cry again. I know that some may think I’m exaggerating, but this movie treated some important themes in a divine way and with great sensibility too. I loved it.
this film is truly beautiful, it truly teaches us how important love is between a mother and a son, Japan's filmmakers really are the world's greatest storytellers
@@jadalove9819 Yes, it was at that moment I could imagine the consequences of their varying lifespans... Bitterly sad... Ariel and his dog are like a parallelism to Maquia and Ariel... ;-;
Just finished this movie, for me this is the best and saddest anime movies I ever watch better than Your Name and A Silent Voice etc. I dunno how can this movie under my radar and glad I finally found it. Last time I cried so hard like this is when I watch Violet Evergarden ep10 (also about mother and her child)
I just finished watching it like literal seconds ago and I probably will have typos in this comment or not because wof auto correction but God my eyes are still leaking with tears, this anime wrecked me it made think of the moments with my parents and that should always treasure them because one day they will be gone. I should treasure them. Always. All of us should treasure them with everyasting seconds we have of them.
I swear to god, I can't hold back the tears every time I even remember this part. This ending. This film is 100% one of the best things I've ever seen in my whole life and probably the best film at all I've seen in my life, and I can't help but cry everytime I remember this scene, this ending. I love it. I love this film. I love everything about this story. I wish everyone in the planet would see it.
This movie is so powerful. The 15 minutes leading up to this scene I was slightly crying but when I figured out the elderly man was ariel I sobbed violently and my whole body felt an electric current run through it. As the credits rolled, I stood up to get some water but I felt like I was walking on air. I dropped to the ground and started sobbing. Afterwards I went upstairs to go hug my mom. This movie deserves more praise and attention.
no anime movie (besides ride your wave) has ever made me sob this hard. that flash back hit me so hard i couldn’t do anything but cry. i watched this a couple months ago and still tear up thinking about it sometimes. what a masterpiece
Okay I just finished this and what can I saaaay the story is so beautiful beyond words and my eyes are swollen from crying so hard. This movie has scarred me but in a profound and meaningful way . HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
There's a small part edited out from this clip, which shatters my heart every time I watch this scene. When she feels his hand move, the film is supposed to cut to him and he smiles at her. He whispers weakly 'Oka..iri..nasai..' (Welcome home). I can't express how much this movie speaks to me as a human being. It makes my heart tremble whenever I catch even just glimpses of scenes like this.
Watching this was such an emotional rollercoaster the story of a mom taking care of her baby which isn’t even hers. there’s been quite a lot of bumps then and there, Marquia raised her son from new-born to Adult hood, then comes back near before he dies. I don’t think she cried because he was about to die but cried because of the amazing journey. she didn’t regret anything she did, she had broke her promise, also the same time I made an indoor pool out of tears, truly beautiful. The creator of this story really knows to get that clean shot into the feels. Mannnnn I still feel it
"I knew a girl, once, immortal like me" "And she was with someone mortal? What happened?" "He died". Said him. There was a finality to the way he said it that spoke of a deeper grief than words could paint.
The most tragic yet beautiful animated film I've ever seen. I could not for the love of God keep myself from crying, even though I was watching this with my family. Easily my favorite anime film for making me cry like the weak human I am and creating a story a son like me can empathize with. 10/10 film. Would watch again. For sure!
You know what I’ve learnt from this show. No matter what life choice you make it will also have its pros and cons. No matter what you choose. Take this anime for example, do you really think being immortal is the best thing? Of course you are spared from physical pain but what is stopping you from mental pain? Do you really think someone can endure a life where everyone around them slowly grows old and leaves you? Since we are all mortal, we should cherish this time with our parents, the ones who raised us to become the people we are. Every time your parents ask to help out, you should do it without hesitation as they didn’t hesitate in raising you.
This clip is most expensive part of this movie , you can't stop to flow your tears, lets them to come outside, mother is the most powerful in the world for her child. She could goes against to god fro her child......
Bro all the sad anime that I‘ve watched so far aren’t sad anymore after watching this movie. I never thought that there would be an anime that would top everything from my top 10 list
2 years ago I saw this and ugly cried my way out of the cinema. I haven't been able to watch it again because of how it made me feel. Today I decided to search for the ending, and damn, it hit me again right the chest.
People in the comment sections fighting one another saying that Maquia is better than Kimi no na wa or Kimi no na wa is better than Maquia. Let's face it, both works are really good. You have different strokes for different folks in the sense that somethings in one work seemed to appeal more to a person than in the other anime film, however, it's all about how the film struck you personally. Both films are amazing in their own right and do things that are unique in conveying their story here. To be honest, films like Koe no Katachi which Kyoto animation was in charge of as well as Violet Evergarden we're good and I can safely say that films such as Grave of the Fireflies or most to any Ghibli anime films are good and things like Koe no Katachi, Maquia(PA Works was in charge of it as well as Irodoku if anyone watches seasonals and many other good series adaptations), Kimi no na Wa, Garden of Words, and 5 cm per second(Makoto Shinkai works) are all heavily good in their own sense. So it is not right to put one film over the other. It's alright to say you found one more enjoyable cause it connected to you better or on a personal level, but each work is great regardless of the few points that they may have missed on the mark. Keep in mind that they all possess similarities while also trying to convey something different or unique in their regard.
Every Anime is good in their own ways. Most of them can touch your hearth and make you think and see the world different.Life is full of pain, lonlines but it have some good moments of course. We neet to be good,to love each other not to hate each other.

Kimi no nawa and Koe no Katachi, step aside, the true best anime movie is here. Ive seen this movie in theaters, I had to held back my tears because I just dont wanna cry in public. Damn.... the ending hits hard.

That would explain her advise about not falling in love with a human in the beginning and why Barlow is always so sarcastic. Rashine must have had a true romantic love story with a human and when her son left her and her beloved man died of old age she felt alone for the first time...
Yo, I'm not the type to cry at animated movies or smth, but when I tell you I bawled when I was watching this-
Watching this just make keep me crying, this movie has onion recipes
You bet. If you're interested in a similar anime with onion recipes, then watch "In this corner of the world"/"Kono sekai no katasumi ni".
Fun fact: It has onion recipes _literally AND figuratively_ ;)
Manly man never cries, Manly man just hydrates his eyes
Name soundtrack pls
I finally decided to watch this and now my tears won't stop falling. 😭 I already started crying from the moment Ariel left her and found out that he's already starting a family of his own to the scene where he call her "MOM" again until this ending. It's been so long since an anime movie made me cry this much until my headaches after grave of the fireflies and who's left behind 😭 Tell me, How can I move on from this movie?
I don't know either.. it's too painful..
i saw it a second time with my mum and had to hug it out and let her know how much she means to me
もうこのシーンだけで泣ける
no movie has made me tear up or cry, then i saw this with my mum i was absolutely broken. especially by the end, i then had a heart to heart talk with mum and told her how much i appreicate her and what shes done. this movie really makes you think and often you will make connections to it and parrallels to your own life.
This is how I finished the movie👇🏻👇🏻
At the start of the movie: 🥺
Halfway through the movie: 😖
Ariel leaving: 😫
Ending: 😭
❤️
Even the beginning of the movie I was already crying.
I want to express my feelings to, but i don't want to spoiler
0:57 was when I cried In this scene
The dog a bit after 1:00 too... Reminded me of the dog being buried too... ;-;
varun manjunath I was trying so hard not to cry lol
@@jadalove9819 Yes, it was at that moment I could imagine the consequences of their varying lifespans... Bitterly sad... Ariel and his dog are like a parallelism to Maquia and Ariel... ;-;
varun manjunath I loved the way maquia still showed love to Ariel even after he became distant. She still treated him like a child ❤️
@@jadalove9819 The last scene where she breaks her promise and cries uncontrollably... :(
Just finished this movie, for me this is the best and saddest anime movies I ever watch better than Your Name and A Silent Voice etc.
Always. All of us should treasure them with everyasting seconds we have of them.
this movie shattered me in the most beautiful way possible.
One of the BEST ANIME I have ever seen. This is a masterpiece.
I wish everyone in the planet would see it.
me too
This movie is so powerful.
It still hurtss
no anime movie (besides ride your wave) has ever made me sob this hard. that flash back hit me so hard i couldn’t do anything but cry. i watched this a couple months ago and still tear up thinking about it sometimes. what a masterpiece
This film taught me that life is very short and full of happy memories😭❤
Okay I just finished this and what can I saaaay the story is so beautiful beyond words and my eyes are swollen from crying so hard. This movie has scarred me but in a profound and meaningful way . HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Watched this today...so beautiful and a poignant reminder to never take a single second for granted. I'm so happy I found this
泣けるぅ………😭😭😭
やっべぇ映画見てないのにこのシーンだけで号泣
There's a small part edited out from this clip, which shatters my heart every time I watch this scene.
When she feels his hand move, the film is supposed to cut to him and he smiles at her. He whispers weakly 'Oka..iri..nasai..' (Welcome home).
I can't express how much this movie speaks to me as a human being. It makes my heart tremble whenever I catch even just glimpses of scenes like this.
For those who havent watch this one, i'll recommend it... its beautiful!!!
I am watching this with my mom right in front of me.
*BrEAthiNg iNTensIFIES*
Man you're strong. If I watched this with my Ma I'd be a total wreck. As it is this hurts my heart.
@@jaimeefinnegan8588 I was about ti cry.
I don't have the balls to do that.
If she haven't watch this whole movie she aint give a shit.
Im not brave enough to watch this with my mom
This was a perfect Mother's Day movie.
Mannnnn I still feel it
"I knew a girl, once, immortal like me"
"And she was with someone mortal? What happened?"
"He died". Said him. There was a finality to the way he said it that spoke of a deeper grief than words could paint.
I hate how underrated this movie is. Like 200% underrated.
This movie... Oh, God. Most complex feelings I've ever saw portrayed in any art form, seriously.
The most tragic yet beautiful animated film I've ever seen. I could not for the love of God keep myself from crying, even though I was watching this with my family. Easily my favorite anime film for making me cry like the weak human I am and creating a story a son like me can empathize with. 10/10 film. Would watch again. For sure!
This movie brought me to tears. It’s an absolutely beautiful movie.
it sure is
You know what I’ve learnt from this show.
Seriously this scene made everyone cry. How can u watch this and not cry. I was sobbing so hard
The movie ends 10minutes already and i still cant stop crying. Movie of the year👏
People in the comment sections fighting one another saying that Maquia is better than Kimi no na wa or Kimi no na wa is better than Maquia.
Well said. Every pieces are equal.
James Rodriguez but in general Kimi no na wa is an anime I found average
True. No anime is better than the other. It's all about how the viewers see the anime on his own view
one thing would still be the same for each other, Oscars
Every Anime is good in their own ways. Most of them can touch your hearth and make you think and see the world different.Life is full of pain, lonlines but it have some good moments of course. We neet to be good,to love each other not to hate each other.
こんなん泣く。
I almost shed a tear, I was this close.
Rewatching this is gonna be a good exercise, and also a trurly Cathartic feeling.
i used to think modern anime lost its touch but after watching this movie that's from 2018 i was impressed that there's still anime being made today with beautiful quality art and storylines.
The ending to this movie is beautiful. Literally left me in tears for so long. 10/10
My dudes... let us not forget, this is legit the same heartbreak felt by anyone with pets.
😭😭😭 I wish you all strength!!! 😭😭😭
ごめんね...
母さん...約束...破っちゃうッ...泣
これヤバすぎ
Ive watched a lot of sad anime like anohana but they never made me cry so technically this is the first anime to get under my skin and got me crying from the heart.
Bonus info: the director of Maquia is also the author of the novel of Anohana except in Maquia the director was also the writer of the story. (For those who dont know)
Kimi no nawa and Koe no Katachi, step aside, the true best anime movie is here.
Ive seen this movie in theaters, I had to held back my tears because I just dont wanna cry in public. Damn.... the ending hits hard.
I cried so much that I got a headache ......and even after watching it I cried like 10 minutes straight. This is too good
名シーン
I watched this on mothers day. not knowing it was a movie about being a mother.
i got destroyed.
Yo, when she was crying my heart went boom boom
Amazing voice acting
@@asscake1849 Hundred percent agreed with that, the emotion, I could feel it. So triggering and sad. 😞
“Welcome home”
*those two words hit me like a rock*
This was the first time I've actually full on cried to any form of media before. I've had tears a many other times but this fully made me cry so much
I watched it yesterday,
"I'm sorry Ariel, your mom's gonna break her promise.."
That one line... Make me flood my glasses and pilllow in tears. The best movie i watched so far, and i'm really glad i watched it..
I swear i really love this movie
My favorite anime movie list
1. Maquia
2. Violet Evergarden
3. In this corner of the world
I saw this movie just now and I don't know what life means anymore... Watch this movie damn you!!
the flashback part is really made me cry a lot

This moment killed my Manliness.
I know it hurts but this scene can't hold my heart too much pain that made cry.
She knew there is nothing to do but to say him a " _Goodbye_ " to her son for his very last moment. :'(
Im still crying to this in 2020. Who is with me?
