Last Ditch Defender, Berlin 1945, Das Werk/ Amusing Hobby 1/35, Borgward IV Panzerjäger "Wanze". In this video we build and paint in a step by step guide the Das Werk Panzerjager Wanze, this vehicle was used as a last ditch defence vehicle during the Battle of Berlin in 1945 against the Soviet tank forces, equiped with a multifiring Panzershrek unit it would srive into the the battle and fire at oncoming tanks, not a job I would want! We cover the basic build, painting with Tamiya Lacquer paints and MRP lacquer paints to do a German 3 tone camouflage, add some chipping to the vehicle and weather it all in with enamel washes and oil paints.

Much appreciate the reminder to get back to just having some fun with the hobby. There’s far too many people on social media that just suck the life out of what used to be an enjoyable pursuit.

Very nice. I have this one in the stash. Amusing Hobby kits get some unnecessary bashing I find. Just because they might not be A+++++ in terms of build and finesse etc, it doesn’t mean they can’t be built or aren’t any fun. What’s that saying: we’re model makers, not kit builders? Something like that. Yeah, amen to that. Great work.👍🏻

Kits like this can be so much fun. Its easy to get in that trap with say a 1/32 aircraft with all the aftermarkets, you end up with such a steep investment that you are afraid to just let go and play. You end up thinking oh it has to be perfect and you stifle your won creativity. thanks for bringing us back to earth and remember why we are modelers

Just a small bit of advice in case you haven’t tried it. If you do 4 drops of paint , 2 of AK paint retarder, and 2 drops water it makes chipping way easier. You can easily wipe of any unwanted marks with a clean wet brush. Works especially well for the scratches since it’s easy to mess up and go to thick etc. Was a game changer for me. Great work as usual. Love the channel.

I'd imagine the life span of any armoured fighting vehicle in the Battle of Berlin in April/May 45 would've been measured in weeks if not days(unless this tank hunter had been around a fair bit). I liked the not too heavy chipping and rust and streaking. 👍👍👍

As said below an interesting subject to model. I am still a great fan of dry brushing. When doing a seat, like you I use washes to get the tonality for the seal then spray it with a mat varnish and then use a titanium oil dry brush. It has to be very dry on the brush to work but it gives a sort of polished look to the high wear areas of the set. I also do this on pretty much all of the model to bring out detail, edges and also body lines of the model.

A great job on this little vehicle!
I could be mistaken, but as I understand it, this vehicle was first developed as a reusable demolitions carrier. It was driven into the vicinity of the target, then the driver dismounted and directed the unit to the target by radio control, where it then dropped the charge which was located in a container on the front of the vehicle via two lift arms (as seen on this model). It could then be retrieved, and the charge detonated. However, I have not seen this configuration previously.
A really interesting little vehicle, that you have brought to life here. I love this series so please keep them coming. Cheers from Australia!

A little 'old skool' dry brushing wouldn't go amiss on the high wear areas. Kind of surprised it doesn't get used more often.

Instead of spraying dunkelgelb over the model cammo you could try ammo by mig washeble dust ral 8000. You can wash it away with water if you spray to much.

No, it's actually a six-pack of panzerschreck. The Nebelwerfer was NOT a direct fire weapon.

I've been looking at this kit recently myself in my hobby shop always been meaning to look it up I wasn't sure if it was a what if vehicle or what but now probably pick it up it's very cheap n looks just stupidity cool lol I use scale.75 leather, wood and flesh paints and AK, vallejo AK 3rd Gen flash set is great never used citadel never know what the colours are with the weird names they use! It's not very practical for armour modellers citadels.
Honestly get yourself some scale.75 paint set's there pre mixed with retarder so make a perfect figure and detail brush paint! We win alot of awards with using them and the uniform colours just the different way's of being able to layer them and they don't lift off that first layer you'll know what I mean, I got recommended them from a great modeller who wins alot of awards was abit hesitant moving from vallejo and Ak but glad I did for the detailing and figures! I use my ak , vallejo for airbrushing the vehicle's so never a waste! All great paints them.3

What do you use to thin the paint? I use Mr Color Leveling Thinner or Tamiya lacquer thinner with retarder(yellow lid) at an eyeball ratio of 40:60/30:70 paint:thinner sprayed at 14psi works. Your mileage may vary but I've found at those ratios the paint lays down beautifully. Cheers 👍

Reminds me of the Weasil. Basically a shopping trolley with a gun. We had some silly incidents during ex Lionheart 84 courtesy of bundesweer blank firing systems so were wary. German troops in a weasil took on a platoon of paras so the toms ran out of the woods and tipped the thing on its side😂. Paras 1. Bundesweer 0. Not a great design.
