  • Installation of JBM Industries CV diaphragm replacements for my 73mm Mikuni BS34 carburetor on my 1983 Yamaha XV500 Virago. Order page can be found here: jbmindustries.com/Yamaha650.html
Easy enough to install, but I feel a visual guide would be helpful to some.

They work really well. I put a set in my 74 Honda CB360. Your doing the replacement the hard way. Just tear off old rotten material, warm retainer rings on the flame of your gas stove, and they pull right off. NO damage to the metal and no grief. Just tell em Carol told you so!

Great video. Seeing you do it took away any concerns before I started replacing the diaphragms on my 1979 Yamaha XS11SF. As with you, the JBM diaphragms fit nice and tight, correctly mated perfectly to the carb flange and were easy to install. Two things to add. First, wear safety glasses when clipping the plastic rings. I got popped on the cheek with a piece before I did. Secondly, after everything is assembled you can test the diaphragm by pushing the cylinder fully up and then press your thumb to seal the curved outside chamber vent. Release the cylinder and it should drop very, very, very slowly. If it drops quickly then there's an air leak somewhere.

Man, you're my motorcycle lifesaver! ;-) Thanks for this video, I have a 1985 Suzuki Madura GV700 which uses the same Mikuni Carburetor. These JBM diaphragms are my only option so far to get my motorcycle running again. But, I was not completely sure on how to do the job... now I know! Thanks a lot! :-)

Red rubber grease helps to seat diaphragm into carb body lip.

I have just ordered 2 sets for my 535's, certainly good to see it before I wreck it!! It seems that the cheapies fitted by the dealer have only lasted about 3 1/2 years, but he charged full price!!! I shall now save pennies and get some genuines before Yammy stop selling em as they seem to last about 20 years. to be replaced in many years time...hopefully! (who will go first, the diaphragm or me!)

Hi, Palanski, Excellent video demonstration. I face with a problem ordering JBM diaphragm, they only accept payments by PayPal which is not convenient/available is my country, so my work on HSC 40 carbs (82' XV750) is stuck. I was hoping to order a slid and pair of diaphragms.. .🤥

Really no need to break off the plastic slide surround, use a credit card to insert diaphragm into slide slot😎

Keihin carbs, vacuum slide diaps are not fabric impregnated with rubber. Just plain rubber. Pull the jet needle out of the slide before starting on removal of the old diap. Some models have a small 'tit' on the o.d. of the diap in which case mark the slide as to location before removal of the old diap. Install new diap with the tit aligned with the mark. Yes, it matters. 1 - it keeps the butterfly plate from hitting the slide by aligning the slide's indent with the plate. 2 - It keeps the slide bleed holes aligned with the piston side of the carb throat for maximum lift effect. JBM says use gel type super glue. I prefer using clear RTV aka silicone sealant. I run a carb rebuild biz and have been using JBM as my supplier for years. Good guy, great product.

great video,,, have a Kawasaki 440 LTD looking to do exactly what you did,,, they were going to charge me 170 for one diaphram from the dealer, living in canada how much was it for both boots n shipping?,,, how are the carbs doing today?,,, what kind of glue would you use if you were going to put some on?
