Wow! Nice smooth running trolley locomotives. I gather all the engines were hand built. Terrific layout and I agree, "the attention to detail is amaging!"
The prototypes were very similar (although the WWV dieselised in the 1950's), and the layout you mention inspired me to model operational features from a route, rather than just one complete area.
I am very impressed with your layout and video. I also am a traction modeler I have an O scale switching layout using scratch built 25 ton Baldwin boxcabs.
@crazyfvck The lighter grass is Woodland Scenics FG171 Field Grass-Natural Straw, the smaller tufts are a product called Silflor, which you can find on eBay.
This is really cool and really helpfull lol because I model the Petaluma and Santa Rosa, like the Yakima was a fruit/agriculture line, and this really helped for some of the planning to see 1 like this in real.
I find it fascinating because it used electric traction for so long, and the Line Car is so unusual. If you want further reading check out Ken Johnsen's "Apple Country Interurban".
Andy, it's an understatement, but your scenery is incredibly realistic! Weathering of your structures and rolling stock, the varying shades of grayish colors on the street to indicate wear from the traffic and weather, and the variations in your grasses are excellent. Have you submitted an article and photos to Kalmbach's Model Railroader Magazine?
Amazing video great job with everything 👍 and I have a question is that model of line car A a kit or a brass model or a scratch build I'm modeling the Y. V. T. And would love to have one . Anyway great video and take good care of those train's
Dude this is an awesome layout.. for a couple years.. (}more like 15) i've been wantin to do a layout or the yakima Rail Yard and track to Wapato.. im glad to see that im not the only one wantin to show off the yakima area.. =P thx
Wow, very nice catenary operation. The single pole pickups are harder to manage rather then a pantograph shoe. So you made the catenary poles and wires yourself?? What wire did you use? did you have to solder it or weld?
Donnie, I have just added a link to a forum thread about the layout, post 25 includes a trackplan that explains the design. If you want any more info then I'll try to help.
I wouldn't be too concerned with copying the original trackplan, as there are a few design features in it I wouldn't want to repeat such as the sharp curves, and the Y switch creating a S curve that the 57' Reefers didn't like. I'll try to find the image of the trackplan on my PC...
Most of you might have seen my image site containing photos of the YVT and my modelling. Unfortunately, the hosting company "fotopic" has gone into administration, with little chance of my or anyone else's galleries re-appearing. Whilst this is annoying for me, there are plenty of others who relied on this service as part of their business or with larger collections who have been greatly inconvenienced and left financially out of pocket.
I just wanted to let you know that I have enjoyed your videos very much of Yakima Valley. I've read that this particular version has been dismantled and you built another version. I was wondering if you still have the original track plan in your possession. As I now live in a small apartment, I am very interested in building my own version of this layout.
@MustardTiger509 I live in England, quite a way from Yakima....!! The Clover Leaf in Union Gap might be able to help or point you in the right direction.

That track looks amazing.
Now that is a great layout! Great work.
This is one amazing layout very well done! You lighting functions are amazing too. Keep up the amazing work on this neat layout!
Nicely done, would love to see the full track plan and an overall view of the layout

Beautifull!

DCC, at that show I was using a Lenz Compact & handset, I think it was also sold as the Atlas Commander in the US. I now use a NCE Powercab
I haven't been back to Wiley city /yakima since '82. I need to visit

Nice layout and good solution for the trolleypole in the fiddle yard. Any chance seeing your layout at an exhibition in mainland Europe?

It's made by Trident, I painted it that colour and again more recently to match a Suburban a friend was driving at the time.
Great layout

@selah64 I'm not sure if there is, try asking at the Clover Leaf in Union Gap or Boxcar Hobbies if it's still open.
Very nice! Are the cars powered from the overhead or track?

Cuz thats very interesting... id really love that truck, cuz im a big
80's suburban and silverado fan
How does that staging area work? It looks relly interesting the way the rails are designed.
@MustardTiger509 I've not heard of any, although you could ask at a local Hobby Store as they should have flyers for shows in the area.

Have fun sharing the streets with the other vehicles Lol! I wonder how they did that in the real world?
@tjmfishing Yes, January 2010.
@dogrichmancat How recently...? I have October 1975 and February 1984.
Oh... very nice... where did you get it?
@MustardTiger509 I live in England, quite a way from Yakima....!! The Clover Leaf in Union Gap might be able to help or point you in the right direction.
Is there a club in Yakima I'd like to check it out if there is
Was that locomotive in Model Railroader?
Hey, at 0:53, i saw a blue 1980's era Chevrolet Suburban. Did you buy that, or did you make it yourself?
how is the layout powered
Which diesels?
The YVT had a 15mph limit, besides my wife was operating...!!
so it goes 15 mph in real life speed?.. if so, wow
