- This 10 minute video highlights the City Edge layout created and built by Vic Smith. This layout is located near Lambert International Airport in Bridgeton, Mo, a suburb of St. Louis. Featuring street running and Kato's Amtrak night running scenes along with Broadway's Union Pacific AC6000's transporting Athearn and Intermountain double stack units across the city's elevated rail structure by Micro Engineering. Along with a nostalgic trip of Broadway Limited Santa Fe's War Bonnet F7's pulling a set of lighted California Zephyr cars while a trio of NW2 switcher engines carefully perform some street running down Market Street. This layout runs a variety of trains and rolling stock from many different eras for a wide range of entertainment for layout visitors. New HD video of the layout will be available with an array of prototype scenes set in the 1980's.
This is not about money.... u must love this.. So beautiful.
Mr. Vic Smith, this layout is a masterpiece! You got so many things right: scenery, details, the look and feel of a real city, the advertisement and signs on the buildings, background, the sky and clouds. This layout is awesome anyway you look at it! We should all strive to be this good. Great work!
Wow!!! Can't quite find the words!! The buildings alone are worth high merit, but the whole city is just amazing - in both layout and execution! Well done!!!
This is certainly one of the most beautiful layouts I have ever seen on the net.
Unbelievable. I coulda swore I saw the people walking. Nice job
My husband and I are watching this. It reminds us of our honeymoon on the sleeper from Taylor, Texas (home) to Chicago. Thanks!!!
All time greatest layout I have ever seen, being a native NYer there are so many locations this layout has taken me from the early streets of Brooklyn(ridgewood) to midtown Manhattan west side(NYC) thank you for sharing this,I find no word to discribe this,It even by passes of the word EXCELLENT,right down to the A/C conducts, truly a Master at hand that you are ,All the best to you and yours
Robert
WOW thats the best layout ever. It reminds me of the rodé from Grand central station NY To CT back in the 70s of Harlem and the Bronxs. Best job yet on realism. I saw so many things that no one else has posted. Like the parking meters and motorcycles and much more. The only thing I dont get os the railyard going down the middle of the street. I sure hope you post more and thanks for the best 9minutes of my day.
There are no words I canuse to describe this layout! By far one of the best I have ever seen. This is unreal! I model N scale and intend on building my next layout based on city scenery. I could talk about this layout for days, this is unreal.
My biggest gripe about most model railroads is that they don't even paint the buildings. Love this cityscape. Kudos.
I have seen multiple layouts and this one has to be hands down the most realistic and nice .
I really enjoy urban scenry on model railroads like this. This layout reminds me of the Franklin & South Manchester which is another of my favorite layouts.
I love how you modeled the black hole section with the truss bridges!! Very nice way of getting the trains to loop back around!!!
WOW ABSOLUTLEY STUNNING! MODEL RAILROADING AT IT'S FINEST!
Wonderful attention to scale, proportion, and details. Coloring is spot-on. One of my favorite layouts of all time!
Can't imagine the hours of time in designing, planning, building, painting, weathering, and having it all come together in this fantastic fine running layout. Thank You for taking the time to film and post it on You Tube for all to enjoy, and I DID!!!.
Great work. loooooks so real !!
Thanx for sharing.....
Within 5 seconds my (out loud) reaction was "Wow". It never diminished. This is simply amazing - shows great dedication and eye for detail.
This is hands down one of the best layouts of all times!!!! WOW! I feel like getting started immediately! ....
This really is a work of art in the noir mode. Wonderful!
Great set-up and video. I don't know why but I feel I could watch this for hours. LOL!
WOW best city layout that i ever seen
INCRÍVEL!!! Nas cenas da cidade nem parece que é maquete! Parabéns, que legal...
THE most interesting track layout I've ever seen. This is a very, very uncommon scene and the details are extraordinary.
This is by far one of my favorite layouts on youtube. I would love to visit it some day. Its funny because UP is going past my house as I'm watching it so I hear the horn from the video and in real life.
Street running is common in some areas, though probably not as much now as it used to be. I know there are tracks like that on some streets in Chicago, but I have never seen any trains running down them. There are also the typical sets of tracks that run down the street briefly, or at an angle, which lead to factories, etc. Those are still in use.
Ten minutes of pure bliss. 😊
What a stunning layout with urban scenery. The weathering and sky is so realistic. Truly astounding!
A fantastic layout. You've captured a lot of detail I didn't notice in the Green Frog DVD, possibly because there is just so much detail to take in!
Absolutely fabulous. Such an inspirational video. Well done.
This is absolutely incredible. I being a novice feel like im not even worthy of complementing you on your work of art. I can not even imagine the detail and effort and pure love that went into this. Also this is coming from someone who rarely even comments on any TH-cam video.
That intermodal train is awesome
hey vic how are you, i have seen alot of layouts on you tube and in person but i must tell you and this is coming from someone not easily impressed, you have taken model railroading to a different level, your scenery and detail is off the charts, a true work of art you should be very proud and thanks for sharing this true work of art
that's my fav sound of trains you have there.. it sounds like a train in virginia echoing off the mountains.
This layout is right up my alley!!! Room for long trains to run, street ops,and ULTRA realistic.
Nice work brother love the layout very realistic thanks 4the ride Deuce NY RR
Thanks.Very great layout.Sooo realistic, especially with the low hanging scenic clouds and lighting. Could be used as a movie picture fill in scene. Kind of reminds me of sections of NYC. Great sounds, and camera work by you too.Mmmmmmmm
I grew up in NYC myself. All I can say is ditto !!!!
what can I say......AWESOME doesnt describe this..very cool
Fantastic work Mr. Smith. Very enjoyable to watch trains operate on your super detailed layout.
WOW those 1st 30 seconds looks so realistic, fantastic!!!!
This sound is music to my soul...i grew up near a train station and would stay up late at night just to hear the horns. Then got the courage enough to leave and see the view up close and how exiting it was to just leap and grab on to those metal bars and ride the train to where ever it stopped..
It looks like I'm watching a movie made in Hollywood! Incredible!
This has to be a labor of love. Fantastic job. Now if I had the time and the place to do mine.
The attention to details is above outstanding, way awesome.
Wow! This layout was shown in Model Railroader magazine several times! This is BY FAR one of the most highly detailed and realistic cityscape layouts I've ever seen!
The lighting is just right for this scene.
Awesome layout incredible detailing all around, a little excessive horn noise but that's just me, thank you for posting this.
Mixing the audio from real trains makes the video so much more interesting, lot of detail, very cool layout.
actually soundtraxx has sound decoders for feights cars that have real recorded sounds in them and i believe they are in these cars
Brilliant... high art, high performance art! The building detail rivals the best of them.
thanx and cheers
Beautiful layout, excellent details and a very very good video.
Great use of sound and deep focus. It almost looks like you are utilizing hard lenses. Things you expect to be in focus in real life are in focus. The sound mix doesn't have to be synchronous, the brain tries to make sense of it all. Your camera movements are smooth. Excellent production values through and through.
......... I'm speechless......
This work is an inspiration to many
I stop by every so often just to see
what hard work and patience looks like
Amazing ^_^!!

What an amazing .layout Rex, your city landscape of all types of buildings, the hot dog van are simp,y first class and a credit to you. As are the locos with amazingly loud horns and the flat tyres on some of trucks. Thanks for sharing this one. Best wishes from Ken in Scotland UK.
No Rex, you got it all wrong....from this point forward, the City Edge Layout as depicted in this video will be called SMITHTOWN! Wow, Rex and Vic, what a great realistic layout and upload. Award winning to say the least. Time, effort, and sweat to name a few of your attributes. Both of you are to be commended for your professional work. Thanks.

I've never seen better!
absolutely beautiful. the "L" (elevated track) is my favorite part. i grew up in chicago and this is exactly the kind of HO scale layout i dream of....wow!
Amazing....simply amazing!
Wow I love it. You have done a fabulous job with this layout. 👍. A new subscriber after seeing this. Your sound editing is spot on.
The entire thing is stunning. But at 1:47 for me, THAT'S my favorite. I think it looks like a real helicopter shot. GREAT WORK!
By far THE best I've ever seen. The attention to detail is just extraordinary!!! Some of the shots could easily be confused for the real locations. I'm interested in how it was done? Are the buildings from kits or custom built? Some videos on how this was pulled off would be equally interesting. Hats off to Vic Smith!
Please can you post more of your layout. It is spectacular!
Allied Moving containers? seriously? I want one!
Street Running is super cool Not many cities have them
The detail is incredible!
This is really great! I like how the scenery shows realism and how you have the trains in the back and in the front. Looks like it took a lot of planning and work.
Truly Amazing, Probably the Very Best Model Railroad on TH-cam!
