  • A big thanks to my sponsors NS Bikes and FSA Components for freeing me up to make fun videos like this!
Ever since I bought my 1991 imported Suzuki Carry 660 mini truck I knew it'd be perfect for the sport I love - mountain biking! After a little research, a lot a redneck wrenching, and learning to read Japanese I made my truck ready to carry 2 mountain bikes almost anywhere. While it's still a work in progress, I know a few more tweaks will have this rig dialed and ready to run for a lifetime!

Sorry about the bad audio guys.... even with a dead cat, filming in a construction site is not the best... but hey, don't forget to let me know what upgrades I should make below!

Daily MTB Rider get some sound deadening material and put it on the back wall of the truck and under the seats/over the engine compartment. It will greatly reduce the noise inside the cab making it more enjoyable to drive but also will help as a heat barrier for the seats so they aren’t getting hot in the summer months. Also I’d recommend putting some on the roof as well if there is no inside liner.

Maybe look for a canopy shell that fits over the bed? For when it’s rainy and stuff. I’d definitely look into getting a lift on this baby and throwing some beefier tires on her. Other than that, maybe give it a light bar? See if you can find some projector headlight housing, metal bumpers, possibly a winch, and I’d say you’re set.

It would be really cool if you custom-painted the truck with your logo's background blue with your logo on the doors of the car so that everyone knows who you are when you pull up to events. Maybe get some offroad tires to shuttle up mountains. I think the bike system is too difficult to get on and off quickly, it would be cool to put the bikes on the side of the truck kind of like a heli system! Keep up the awesome vids!!

Now get one of the matching vans.
For the truck, you could mount a small air compressor for the bike (or truck) tires.
You could build a rack and put a rooftop tent over the bed but I don't know how much those weigh. It might be a little too top heavy.
Some bed lighting to help with loading up after dark.

  • @philso7872
    @philso7872 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool truck!
You might want to change the bolts holding the bike mounts for shorter ones or cut them so they don't damage the stuff you put in the box. Replacing the regular nuts with acorn nuts (plus lock washers) would also be good.

Full roll bar rack in the bed with removable cover. You could fit a canoe/kayak, and have a bit of protection from the elements for the bikes. Water tank under the bed with a 12 volt pump, for washing bikes (and people) after rides. Dual spare tire rack over the cab for those bush roads. .......and a winch. A two way radio/CB to monitor large trucks on those back roads is a good idea, too. And for Pete's sake.....install a stereo. Even a cheap one... hahahahaha

    Upgrade ideas:
    1) Flag pole mount in bed (for parades.) Your truck is proud to be an American citizen now.. Flag pole mount can double as swivel stand for assault rifle,
    2) P.A. system - with big speaker like the Blues Mobile.
    3) Bull bar in front with winch
    4) Receiver hitch on rear bumper - haul more bikes.
    5) Under frame neon ground lighting system
    6) Yellow 'cherry' on roof - for making slow maneuvers in heavy traffic areas and to keep large crowds from gathering around your truck and hemming you in.
    7) Hitch mounted (removable) Harbor freight truck crane for lifting heavy items into or out of the truck bed.
    8) "Chick magnet" sign for driver's door.
    9) Dash cam to record candid reactions to truck for youtube channel when you are parked
    10) Roof mount LED lighting system for going trail riding.

  • @John-shreds

I used to have a British version of this van called a Bedford rascal. Great vehicles if you don't need to take passengers. They do a panel Van version too.
If you ever get stuck in the mud, you can literally lift the back end up and get someone to throw sticks under the tyres to help you get out.
I strapped cement bags near the tailgate to help with traction in the winter

Find a buddy with a welder and get rid of those fasteners and add some reinforcement behind that sheet metal for the front fork mount. Long term it'll get metal fatigued and egg out the fastener holes. Bed liner and wraps are great at keeping out water but they're also great at keeping it in too, keep a close eye on them and repair/replace as needed.

side skirt cargo boxes. they increase the overall utility of the truck, plus a place to store the stuff you need, but don't want in the cab with you. filling in the spaces around the cargo boxes will also assist in airflow around the truck, as well make the truck feel more stable; even if you lift it later. another recommendation I would make is either 14 or 15 inch wheels; the tires are surprisingly easier to find than the stock 10s or 12s and you aren't stuck looking for atv tires that will last on the street. of course, all of this is making the assumption that you don't use it as a 'mud truck' or go to really heavy muddy 4wheeling trails all the time; if that was the case, the side boxes would still be recommended, as well as side-skirts; however the stock wheels with ATV tires mounted would be the recommendation.

  • @ethanparsons4972
    @ethanparsons4972 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I live in Australia and what many people do when customising utes 'Four-wheel drives' is that they go to a local welder and get storage mounted under the tray on the back. it is extremely customisable with people putting 'water taps' under the belly of the truck or for you case have more storage, since you may go to a local welder you can get it fully customisable. If you want to you can google "custom ute trays" and it will come up with ideas for under the back tray.
    Like if you agree!!

To make it proper, you should convert the bed to a work station. Mount a repair stand to the back or side so you can perform your maintenance or even do some fairly extensive mechanical work and make it easy to clean your bike. Hook up a water tank, hose, and pressure washer motor so you can spray your bike and the bed as well. stick some soft sided bag or boxes in the box and use those to organize the repair tools. Maybe consider a small roof rack for aditional storage but keeps things low and light so the truck doesn't get too tippy. Get some auxillary lighting, as well as some lighting up the bed and beside the bed to make loading/unloading and maintenance in the dark better. Upgrade to some aggressive all terrains or a hybrid tire, and maybe ad a diff locker. Get better windshield wipers, maybe even heated wipers and don't forget a good waterpoof seat cover. And if it doesn't have it, add some proper recovery points, maybe a hitch shackle and get a kinetic tow rope. Maybe finally paint the truck and add your logo to the side.

put a light bar up the top. but some bigger steel mags on them with some chunky tires one there. maby a new system of carrying the bikes on the back, so you dont need to take off the wheels. and put some seats in the back for shuttling. i also think you should have your logo on the doors and maby wrap it blue.

Test the spray in bed linner in a small section before you do the whole bed. In my experience with my truck bed I tried 3or4 different bed liners and they all were scrapped off fairly easily after letting them dry/cure

check out rockymounts driveshaft if you are looking to upgrade the fork mount in the future. Best fork mount and you can also lock your bikes to the mounts.

  • @LiftedAdventures

So as for upgrades the only things i can think would help would be one paint it neon pink, cause that will make it go faster, and also put a spoiler either on the top or on the trunk cause that would make you faster also and possible make it be able to fly.

Love the little truck!! I think it needs a set of Steer Horns on the front. You could name it El Toro!

What I'd like to see is Suzuki building a new mini truck for the US market, that is left hand drive and meets all the safety regs if possible. I'd like to see a diesel 4 cylinder if it will fit, a granny gear 6 speed, and a Jake brake! 😊

I would cut down the screws you used to mount the axle mounts . 3 or 4 threads past the nut is all you need. Interested to see how the spray liner works out. Hope its awesome!

Frame above the bed, then you can do whatever you want, roof box, tent, additional bike mounts etc.

Those mini - trucks are cool. You need to cut off those too long screws in your storage box before you rip your hand open on one of them. You should put some more aggressive tires on it and maybe a lift kit like some other guys have done.Since you like the color blue,I think you should make it two - tone. How about blue with a white roof? I've never seen one painted that way.

Add some off road lights and maybe a winch. Since you can take this rig out on some double tracks it might help. Live these and enjoyed them when I was in Taiwan.

if u keep the tongue box long term. Pleassssse put some type of backer behind the fork bike mounts. something between the metal of box and the bolt/spacer on the inside..... 2x4 wood frame? plastic board? plywood even. it looks like those bolts would pull through the metal on a bumpy road.

You need a cool looking Rooftop storage basket with lights that wraps down to the back cab into the bed. This assuming they are available for that type of vehicle.

Not so keen on the bedliner spray. I used a perforated rubber mat in my kei truck bed. Won't scratch the bikes, and I pull it out to clean every so often. I also got a tall canopy from Yahoo Japan which is great.
