Great as always Mr. Doug, now I'll keep with my suggestions: - To tame a land - Paschendale - When the wild wind blows - Sign of the cross - The talisman - The clansman Greetings ✌️🇲🇽
I don't know about the key, but rhythmically, Paschendale is interesting because part of the drumming are a nod to communicating in the trenches via morse code.
The reason Iron Maiden and many classic metal bands are so often in Em is because it's conducive to a guitar in standard tuning. Many bands will downtune to Eb live, so you get Ebm. Lowest string on your normal guitar or bass is E, and you want that to hit heavy and hard. E ends up usually being the tonic so you're resolving to a high-impact place. Hence the most common key change is up to F# and back to the low E.
It’s also Steve’s bass setup. On the 4-string P-bass you can just slap the crap out of the A string, mid-fretboard, and get a nice, fat sound. He plays it low-action with heavy-gauge flatwounds and literally bounces the strings off the neck. It’s all I wanted to learn as a 17 year old and I can still do it today. Now if my left hand were as fast as my right hand, I’d be a millionaire!
The Nomad is in key A Major. It has some Egyptian/Arabic scales and will be a great display of a song that is not in Em. Also one of the very rare songs that is in a Major key in Metal history
Definitely, agreed. Doug, about the bass and guitar cooperation, you may consider the work between the bass guitar and bass drum, and never forget that's only one foot.
As a Maiden fan from the late 80ies, the Dance Of Death has been my favorite of the all of the albums after Seventh Son. Short rockers like The Rainmaker, epics like Paschendale and Dance Of Death. Really a great album!

Powerslave is an absolute Maiden classic with the verses being A Phrygian, the choruses in Em and the solo section in Bm. Or you can check out Starblind which goes off in a few directions ORRRR look into the massive track The Legacy.
@@Asto508 It's called the Phrygian dominant scale. The verse part switches between the 'standard' phrygian mode with its minor 3rd and the phrygian dominant scale with its raised 3rd.
Nice reaction. You focused a lot more on the song itself and its lyrics. Don't get me wrong, I am deeply impressed when you can suddenly just step into a song with your piano and hit every note. But I think it's nicer if you concentrate on the song itself. "The Sign Of The Cross" is one of my all-time favorite songs and I get goose bumps at the thought of it. Rock in Rio 2001.
THIS was the song Maiden fans waited an eternity for. They were on top of the metal world in the late 80's. Then Adrian (white guitar) left the band. Then Bruce left. A few albums with a new singer. Bruce did a few solo albums, as did Adrian, but something was missing. When they reunited in 99, fans rejoiced. In 2000, they released Brave new world. Not an epic album, but they were all back together, so it was good enough. Then they released this album and song next. It was classic Maiden. The "horse gallop" beat, the changing tempo. Epic story-telling. It was what we were craving!
We really appreciate you doing this and love hearing your break down even with the less technical songs. I truly love when your facial expression feels the music. It’s worth watching for that alone. Keep up the great work!
Gotta do Thin Line Between Love and Hate. Little bit of F# minor, little bit of B minor, with killer solos and great tone. The album closer on 2000’s Brave New World.
No More Lies from the same album "Dance of Death" is in F mayor, Brighter Than a Thousand Suns is in C mayor, really cool songs btw. I was there live in that concert, amazing memories. Greetings from Santiago Chile!!!

I have a recommendation, for a song sung by two of Maiden's greatest influence, Ronnie James Dio and Richie Blackmor; none other than...STARGAZER by Rainbow!
Absolutely! Rainbow's "Stargazer" is a sweeping epic that I think Doug would really enjoy. And it'd be interesting to hear his reaction as a classical composer.
@@MrSweenie I think that'd be really interesting, but that's true you should know the original version prior to listening to it. So probably Doug should do the original 1983 recording, than listen to the DT version offline.

@@rubicon-oh9km Brave New World is arguably their greatest album IMO. It's tied with Somewhere in Time, for me. Or maybe a three way tie between Brave New World, Somewhere and Time and Powerslave. Powerslave is a perfect album, but I just sorta like BNW and SIT a little more.
Doug, when they come back to the states you really must go and see them live if they are close your city. Being in their live shows is really an incredible experience. Best wishes.
You really need to get live versions for most of their songs. Dance of death is one of the best exemples.
All 3 of them put together a fucking amazing set of solos. LOVE this set..
Next please: When Wild Wind Blows
This song its 11minut eargasm
Have you heard what's they saying on the news today? The Covid comes to kill we all...
@@douglasmayc Either you don't understand COVID, or you don't understand the song. COVID is legitimately dangerous, and is a serious threat. The song is about an overhyped danger that isn't nearly as bad as people thought.
@@Kyle-gw6qp it's just for use the lyrics for our real situation, nothing about the mean of the song. Almost a metaforic situation.
Dance is such an amazing song. I love how the arrangement is effectively a jig. Very thematic.
It’s very Celtic.

4:25 "hes really acting it out"
Bruce: and i felt, i was in a trance
Infinite Dreams is another underrated song from them
Fucking yesss
THANK YOU For doing this!! Such a great song.
Some songs maybe in other modes:
Be Quick Or Be Dead
Powerslave
Deja Vu
The Prisioner
Starblind
To Tame A Land
I have to say that "MaidenMonday"... BEST DAY OF MY WEEK!!! thank you Doug!
I think "Can I play with madness" is in major key to change it up just a little bit
Plus the Music video stars Monty Python's Graham Chapman as a bonus😁
Such an awesome evening, one my greatest memories being there for the recording.
Starblind or Isle of Avalon - amazing musicianship and lyrics as always
When the wild wind blows, from the same concert. You'll love it.
React to "Paschendale" by Maiden, you gonna love it!
This is one of the best songs and best albums ever.
The solos are insane, fast, sharp and so powerful.
Friends, I think it is time to introduce Eddie to Doug.
What live song with him would we suggest to him?
This song is so great that every time I hear it. It gives me goosebumps.
Powerslave is an absolute Maiden classic with the verses being A Phrygian, the choruses in Em and the solo section in Bm. Or you can check out Starblind which goes off in a few directions ORRRR look into the massive track The Legacy.
I think it's not a pure A Phrygian because there is still a c# as 3rd in there, but dunno what particular mode this is, something less common.
@@Asto508 It's called the Phrygian dominant scale. The verse part switches between the 'standard' phrygian mode with its minor 3rd and the phrygian dominant scale with its raised 3rd.
@@MetalMindRG Hm, I think you're right. Thanks
Aces High changes tonality every 40 seconds. that's a good one.
Dance of Death was the first tour I saw them do. Love that album.
maybe "back in the village"? its chords are quite weird 😅 (I really like this song).
I love that song
THIS was the song Maiden fans waited an eternity for. They were on top of the metal world in the late 80's. Then Adrian (white guitar) left the band. Then Bruce left. A few albums with a new singer. Bruce did a few solo albums, as did Adrian, but something was missing. When they reunited in 99, fans rejoiced. In 2000, they released Brave new world. Not an epic album, but they were all back together, so it was good enough. Then they released this album and song next. It was classic Maiden. The "horse gallop" beat, the changing tempo. Epic story-telling. It was what we were craving!
Do When the wild wind blows, by Maiden please!!!
We really appreciate you doing this and love hearing your break down even with the less technical songs. I truly love when your facial expression feels the music. It’s worth watching for that alone. Keep up the great work!
Please do Paschendale as the next Iron Maiden song.
Maiden Monday is the future. 😁 And I love how Doug now looks as excited as we do! 😂
Gotta do Thin Line Between Love and Hate. Little bit of F# minor, little bit of B minor, with killer solos and great tone. The album closer on 2000’s Brave New World.
Great song.
yeah! that's a great song!
No More Lies from the same album "Dance of Death" is in F mayor, Brighter Than a Thousand Suns is in C mayor, really cool songs btw.
I was there live in that concert, amazing memories. Greetings from Santiago Chile!!!
The Legacy or To Tame A Land could be interesting Maiden songs
THE LEGACY is such a fantastic song!!
Best and greatest metalband ever. Heard them first in the seventees and was impressed immediately from the first song i heard. They are still very active. Got a ticket for their show next year. Thank you for this reaction.
You gotta check out The Red and The Black by Iron Maiden. Check out the live version on TH-cam. It’s the most epic Iron Maiden song ever
It's in Em and uses the same chord progressions he has heard in Maiden songs over and over
It is a joy, that a pro enjoys Iron Maiden so much as I do! Bruce is great. Saw them several times and it was always great!
Iron Maiden INFINITE DREAMS
Maiden England version
@@spencercollison1695 only studio
@@bartoszbiniszewski139 Maiden England live version blows the studio one out the window imo. Studio one is too light.
Love your content!! There are a million reaction channels out there but you stand out. Musically informative and very calm. Love it.
Greets from The Netherlands
I have a recommendation, for a song sung by two of Maiden's greatest influence, Ronnie James Dio and Richie Blackmor; none other than...STARGAZER by Rainbow!
Absolutely! Rainbow's "Stargazer" is a sweeping epic that I think Doug would really enjoy. And it'd be interesting to hear his reaction as a classical composer.
And all this from a group of guys in their 50s at that time. Now that they're in their 60s, they're still rocking hard!
Please do Iron Maiden - Sign of the cross!!! You will love it...Play live version from Rock in Rio festival!
Thanks for this one... this one to me was always a fun one!!
If you looking for a different band to cover, Helloween - Keeper of the Seven keys
This its one of the greatest Iron Maiden performance I ever heard
Would love to see a reaction to When the Wild Wind Blows from this same concert its another Maiden masterpiece
Great song! Great stuff, Doug! Thanks for representing our boys once again!! We're all jonesing to get to a live soon!! UP THE IRONS, bro!
Great reaction as usual Doug.
I will however keep writing ”To Tame A Land” until you do it :-)
ME 2
And choose the Dream Theater version! That'd be great.
@@artmooneyblog Fuck no.
@@MrSweenie I think that'd be really interesting, but that's true you should know the original version prior to listening to it. So probably Doug should do the original 1983 recording, than listen to the DT version offline.
I'm always so damn impressed by Bruce's singing WHILE moving around on the stage like a madman!
