600 Miles to Renew Drivers License - Full-time VanLife

- I thought I could renew my South Dakota drivers license online but I had to do it in person. This required a quick trip to South Dakota to take care of business. I figured I would find some nice camps to make the best of it. Thanks for being here!
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. You beat me to it! There are a dozen foraging in a field nearby on their migration South today.
Yes.. sandhills... a sound you never forgot. I have volunteered at Bosque del Apache National wildlife refuge in New Mexico 4 out of the last 5 years... thousands winter there... I love those birds.

I remember the first time you were in South Dakota, you've seen much since then brother...Heck, I remember when you were living in your van in San Diego, saving money to equip your van and hit the road...It's been an enjoyable ride...I did finish my books, got them published, bought 14 acres in the Finger Lakes, built a tiny off grid home.. Bought an acre in Florida, and built a big garage, to skirt the insane zoning laws, pull my rig right in, open the curtains on the back wall that exposes a beautiful river view, with no neighbors...Travel in my rig a good bit of the time, but have snow birding home bases..The example you set helped immensely...Peace..

An ever changing process. Pretty much sums up the Fall weather on the Northern Plains. It can be 70 degrees and sunny one day, and 35 degrees and windy the next. Makes life Very interesting. Looks like you had a happy birth month Brian. I became an SD resident last spring in part due to your videos. The South Dakota Residency Center in Spearfish is an awesome new mail service with fantastic customer service. Lynne is their manager and Spearfish is a cool little town on the edge of the Black Hills just a few miles from Wyoming.

Dang Brian, you have the most uncanny ability to find these awesome free campsites. I think I have a campsite man-crush on you bro! We've abandoned the RV lifestyle in lieu of a campervan with solar so we can A) be more nimble and B) get out into these free campsites and away from overcrowded RV Parks where we are two feet from our neighbors sewer hose. Love your channel!
I was on the fence about vanlife or rvlife but when I read your comment I’m totally going vanlife. Two feet from your neighbours sewer hose did for me.
¯\_(ツ)_/ I put our 40 foot bus down all kinds of dirt roads and dispersed camping areas. You can have it both :-) although there are some we need to skip and I am envious then.

I camped once among the leaves , it was beautiful. Next morning at 8am a RV parked 100 yds away , fired up his two stroke leaf- blower. Some camping experiences you never forget. Enjoy your trip. Good job.
