    You have to fully understand Vince Gironda's methods and why he advocated doing certain things. First off, his policy for not drinking water was for his reduction, maximum definition diet only. He advocated drinking water for weight gaining. Also, Vince never had a program that would take you over a hard 45 min. His programs were designed to keep you moving with very little rest (not really allowing for water). I have trained under his principles for years and have seen everything he advocated work! People will find a quote of Vince's and run with it without fully understanding what the Iron Guru meant. Vince was 50 years of study and dedication to bodybuilding.......he despised drugs and promoted a "body-beautiful" health first bodybuilding approach. While many of his methods were (and are still considered) strange, you'd be hard pressed to find any student of his that did not get better on such "weird" methods.

    When you have to sacrifice water, Then you know you're gone too far, Being fully hydrated increases your strength and mental focus and vice versa ,It also reduces the chance of getting injured while working out.

    1. Never mix protein fat, and carbohydrates at the same meal. They do not digest in the same medium.
    2. Cut out all food and diet drinks containing salt or sodium nitrates. Sodium retains excess water in the tissues and subcutaneous fat.
    3. Stay away from or eliminate refined sugar.
    4. Do not drink water during workouts or with meals Water is a weight gaining substance
    5. Fats are desirable and combined with protein help emulsify body fat and provide energy
    6. Half and half cream contains almost no carbohydrates and provides much desired bodybuilding nutrition. Throw away skim milk and homogenized milk.
    7. Eggs are the best source of inexpensive protein. Use the best - fertile eggs.
    8. Carbohydrates mixed with protein turn to fat. Carbohydrates only turn to fat. Start counting grams of carbohydrates. Forget counting calories.
    9. Stress or hyperactivity will not allow you to digest food properly, destroying muscle tissue. Eat slowly and put energy into your life.
    10. Cigarette smoking will cause restriction of the capillary system you are trying to build, making muscle gains difficult.

    interesting concept but i have gotten kidney stones in the past when i limited my water intake. i drink lots of water during my workout now. i think the important thing is to listen to your body. if you need water, then have some water. if you aren't thirsty, then don't have water. another method is to have one sip of water, then wait a second. if you still want another, then have another. repeat until you no longer desire any water. then continue with whatever else you're doing until a desire for water arises again, and repeat. also, go to the bathroom when you need to.
    listening to your body for macronutrient intake requires a little more practice but it is possible, too. once you learn to listen to your body, you don't need as many plans or tips or tricks. your body tells you what to do. also you have to trust your body and not fight against it.

      aka
      way more intensity = higher gains.
      The comment was to prove a point behind the comedic "drinking water during workout is bad".

      @@aidenl7142 That's how people pass out when lifting heavy. Cut off that oxygen, strain, then it floods back in suddenly...sleepy time. Plus you're going to lift a lot less because now you're going anaerobic, can't maintain that for long.
      Less weights for less reps won't help with muscle tearing. Breathing doesn't have much to do with the load you put on your muscles...what you're lifting and for how many reps does.

    Ive been reading a lot about Vince. And the reason why he liked eggs so much was that biological value of them. Which meant that biological structure of eggs was 95% near the same make up of human muscle tissue and is easier to digest. Where as animal protein is possibly around 90%. And Vince would have his students this quantity of 3 dozen eggs or what they could stand only for a few weeks at a time. Vince had many diets. And if a certain nutrition plan didn work for some one didn't mean it wouldn't work for some one else.

      Hi guys, as a Nutritionist, I agree with not drinking water during a meal as the water dilutes the digestive juices in your stomach and takes longer to digest your food, waiting 20 min after a meal is great, your digestion will improve, however I cannot think of, even in theory, a reason to not drink water as you train??? As other readers have said staying hydrated improves performance, muscle is 75% water, any small fluctuations can result in muscle loss and weakened performance and cramping!

    • @ironguru7866
      @ironguru7866 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Vince advocated not drinking water for reducing only. If you followed his maximum definition then you would be hydrated before the workout and not drink during. He did advocate drinking water when trying to add weight and bulk up so-to-speak. People take quotes from Vince and run with them without ever knowing what he really said.

    "No.1: Never mix protein, fat and carbohydrates in the same meal. They do not digest in the same medium"
    I have heard this before. I think in a book about Taoism and health they mention this same principle.
    If fact, if you don't mix carbohydrates and animal proteins + fat your digestion will be much lighter.
    Also, No.4: "...don't drink water with meals" The same thing, it is true. Your digestion will be much better. You don't see animals eating and zipping water in between bites. They eat and after they are done eating they drink a little bit (if anything).
    No.9: "...eat slowly..." I have heard that since I was a kid and I still do. Eating fast makes you fat.

Also a strong adherent of consuming organ meats for the full nutritional profile. He was believed in the soil rich fatboy life.

      BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO BABYSIT 99% OF THE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT KNOW WHAT HARD WORK IS REALY ALL ABOUT !!!
      NOW I'VE SAID SOME VERY VALUABLE INFORMATION !!! GO AND RESUCH IT :-)
      GOOD LUCK !
      ps : Vince Geronda was right for 90% of the time but he gave his info in a somewhat strange way :-)
      it realy looks rediculous sometimes if you do not know the background of it (scientific foundation !)
      lots of scientific resurch is a double edge sword !!!
      but if you know the conditions and details ( the intentions ) behind it => then you know that half of the resurch is done in a sertain way (manipulated) to sell you more products !!!

      karel degreef Yeah man, keep using those all caps. Those will validate your points. I however will stick to what I learned while obtaining my exercise science degree, my personal training certification, my group exercise certification (both from NCCA accredited agencies), as well as my kettlebell certification. So I'll keep doing that, and you can get all your research from ImRight.com, TinFoilHat.org, and this quack of a body builder who probably wouldn't pass a blood test if his life depended on it. There's a reason why there are no confirmed peer review studies done on this bullshit. Because it's bullshit. Maybe it worked for him, and that's all well and good. But that would make him the exception, not the rule.

    He alluded to the water thing being stated out of context- and advised that we go and actually read what Gironda said. However, this other stuff is pretty decent- it's just 60 years old, so it's more practical and not broken down into macros and using language terminology we'd hear today

  • @rljtemper

    One thing to take in consideration is the size of the athletes today compared to Gironda days. He would consider the BB of today fat. It's a different concept today. Just take a look at his photos and the photos of today. Was Vince 180-190 pounds? Today there 250-300.....training and eating would be different.

    Some I believe in some I don’t . Taking plain water does not make you fat or put on weight . Yes if you take your weight then drink a big glass of water then weigh yourself you will be heavier . But this is only a brief weight gain . Also not so keen on taking half and half on a regular basis .

    My diet naturally flows like this.. I do drink water when working out but spreading meals out not mixing crab's with protein it helps with digestion and able to eat throughout the whole day. I also eat raw eggs about 4 a day on top of the 4 I eat in the morning.. I stay pretty lean and constantly getting those little gains.. I take shots of cream all the time good way to meet your macros and not overload on crab's or junk... if you are working out 6 days a week 45 minutes with controlled diet the fats healthy for you its needed..

      @ianbrown5955 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacob Vincent Where do you get "crabs" from... just kidding; you mispelled "carbs". I agree with the "fats" thing. I did the raw eggs when I was younger. Too many may not digest properly. If you start farting really gross smelling dust storms, you might be eating too many raw eggs. I boil mine now. I couldn't stand myself. Of course, I was eating 6 to 7 raw eggs a day whipped up in a gallon of high fat milk. I made gains.

    Eating 'good fats' is a great source of my energy. They allow me a slow release of energy, and satiate my appetite, helping me keep my Cals in line. Limiting water? He did say this during that 'time and place' where High School Football players were subjected to water limitations in Daily Doubles. I will drink H20 as my body tells me to. Vince Gironda was just the same as anyone else in the Fitness Industry.....he was attempting to be noticed.

    • @ironguru7866
      @ironguru7866 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To say Vince Gironda was just the same as anyone else in the fitness industry makes you look very ignorant. Vince had 50 years experience of self experimentation and getting countless bodybuilders and Hollywood stars in shape. Vince advocated against water during workouts because of the weight gaining properties. If you were trying to gain weight he advocated drinking. People confuse Vince's methods because they take a quote and never get a full understanding of what the man said. Vince Gironda was a genus and the greatest trainer that ever lived.....and until someone else can surpass the achievements he brought to bodybuilding in training and nutrition, he'll remain on the mountain alone.

      there were days when i didn't used to drink during workouts. it was fine. now i use to drink. it is fine too. but i think drinking water during workouts is important and good and superior to nondrinking. but i understand that someone who takes a lot of fats doesn't drink too much. it is one disadvantage of too much fats in diet. fats are good and importand, but too much fats is worse than too little imho. carbs are good for many reasons and practise proved it many times. steak and eggs are for materialistic dumbs which just eat, train, sleep and "dicking some bimbos". glucose is important for mental work and brain at all. same with carbs for intensive work or training. high protein is bad diet. high fat diet could work for people with moderate or low intensive physical affort such as some workers, peasants or bodybuilders like gironda which used to use moderate or lighter weights, isolated exercises and decent training volume. and i have some doubts that high protein, high fat aka steaks and eggs diet demands drinking some wine or whisky and is not sustainable without it...
