I don't understand who talks about King Diamond so badly. He is a fucking genius and he did a lot of great albums (with Mercyful fate too). He is the history of heavy metal and at least people should respect his career

Fucking love king diamond. Some people don't like this song and there are definitely some more catcher ones in the album but as an artist he is amazing. Very classic metal he's been doing this since the 80s
King Diamond kicks so much ass, but his videos do tend to be pretty hokey. His stuff isn't nearly as heavy as a lot of the extreme metal out there, but there's a classic, occult vibe to his work that is very genuine and appealing.
KD is traditional heavy metal pretty much, I'd almost group him together with Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Saxon. Straight up riffs with melodic singing and lead guitar. The musicianship has always been above average on every instrument. Andy Larocque is one of my favourite guitarists (electric guitar), I think he is one of the best metal guitarists ever.
Idk, I still think that King Diamond is much heavier than most of the other stuff ou there, maybe in a different way. Most of the Black or Death Metal bands I know are just so monotonous. Not all of them, there are definitely some awesome bands in these genres in my opinion (pretty much all of the first wave of Bllack Metal and most of pre-Cannibal Corpse Death Metal), but you know, there is so many stuff that is just gore for the sake of being gory or satan for the sake of being satanic and that gets pretty boring after some time, if you know what I mean. Also I believe that guttural vocals don't automatically sound heavier than other vocal techniques. King Diamond combines his haunting storytelling skills with some devilish melodies and his overall excentric style, instead of just yelling around like a maniac with no rhyme or reason. Doesn't mean that I can't enjoy some stupid violence just for the heck of it, but in my opinion the King is just on a whole different level. I wouldn't even say that his music is just plain Heavy Metal. I have a really hard time putting him in one specific genre, because his music has so many elements from so many different kinds of music; even outside of metal; that it almost becomes it's own genre in my opinion.
Too bad most people of today see only this of Diamond. He has been so much more than a mass media "product" in the last 20 years. Abigail, Conspiracy, The Eye..Voodoo....incredible.

"Give me your soul, give me your soul for the dead"

In a cellar down below, I see the little girl playing with a boy

In comes daddy... he's in a rage
Screaming and yelling... he's not very nice
Cold as ice, an axe in his hand
Oh no, looks like he's going insane

Pictures in red... pictures in red
The little boy is dead
"Give me your soul, give me your soul for the dead"
It must be a dream... it must be a dream from below... oh
"Give me your soul, give me your soul for the dead"
13 judges on a bench, the little boy is screaming: "no, it's a mistake"
"A suicide is what you are", the judges say "you're going down
You're going down to hell"
"Give me your soul, give me your soul for the dead"
It must be a dream... it must be a dream from below... oh
"Give me your soul, give me your soul for the dead"
I think I know that little girl, I wonder where I've seen her before
In a cellar down below, I see the little girl dressed in blood
And the blood is not her own
Looks like he's going insane again
Pictures in red... pictures in red
Daddy's hands are squeezing her neck
Pictures in red... little girl is dead
And daddy's got a hole in his head
