We have the distinct honor and pleasure of having Sammy Copley sit in with us this week for a Sunday Morning video while in Dublin, Ireland at the end of our tour. We met Sammy at our show the other day in Dublin and we were so happy we were able to do a collaboration together before we left the country! About Reina del Cid:
Reina del Cid is a singer songwriter and leader of the eponymous folk rock band based in Minnesota. Her song-a-week video series, Sunday Mornings with Reina del Cid, has amassed a devoted and diverse following made up of everyone from jamheads to college students to white-haired intelligentsia. In 2011 she began collaborating with Toni Lindgren, who is the lead guitarist on all three of Del Cid’s albums, as well as a frequent and much beloved guest on the Sunday Morning videos. Happy Sunday morning, all! So... it's a little cheesy to do a Van Morrison cover while we're in Ireland (and even sillier because he's actually from Northern Ireland and we shot this in Dublin), but we love any excuse to do a Van song, so we took it! And we have the distinct pleasure of being joined here by our new friend Sammy Copley who we met at our show with the Other Favorites last week in Dublin. Ah...my fellow Minneapolitans (I think!) who paired up with...serendipitously, Sammy, who I "discovered" a couple months ago...what are the odds??
I never heard this song until about a year ago (2023). I give guitar lessons, and by coincidence, three of my adult students all showed an interest in this tune, so I looked into it. Wow! What a tune!!!! I can't get it out of my head, and there are tons of great covers... like this one.

Mystic and magic. I always look at the people in the background enjoying their day in the park in their own way. For some reason it makes me happy to think that even if they don't know what magic is being created just a few yards away, they are having a lovely day too. The very atmosphere is charged with beauty and good spirits.

I’m 70 years old and recently found your channel. I’ve enjoyed versions of Into The Mystic for nearly 50 years but I LOVE this version best. Today, I’ve played this video on repeat for over an hour to soak in its magical qualities. Each of you contributes a crucial part, none of you compete rather you collaborate to concoct pure gold. Reina, your velvet vocals give it the silken base upon which it is built, Sammy your part raises it to the heavens and Toni, OMG Toni, you pick how I imagine an angel would pick!
This video has touched me like virtually no other piece of music ever has! SO, I'd like you to know that I want this video to be the final piece of music at my memorial service, when I leave this earth, so that moment can be graced by your wonderful creation.

With you all the way, Albert re. the vocal dynamics of Reina and Sammy, the selfless easy collaboration, Sammy's beautiful, soaring vocals and Toni's sublime picking. I watch this frequently, too, to enjoy the small nuances of phrasing - something I love about Van the man himself. This is a truly great interpretation.

I don't know how many times I have listened to this. Any time this ol' world piles up on me and my heart gets to feeling kinda flat I just come back and let these three beautiful spirits take me into the Mystic, and I am recharged for a bit. Wanna know how my soul feels when I listen to this? Just look at the little smile that hits Sammy's face at 1:06. Yeah, it's like a lot of that... SO many thanks to the three of you.

This is probably one of my favorite acoustic covers of this song! I instantly became a fan of Reina del Cid. I've since explored more of your music and truly enjoy all of it! So disappointed I miss the show here in San Antonio.

One of my favorite shows I attended was Van back in the early 2000's. This was his final song and he just kind of wandered off the side of the stage singing the words "Into the Mystic" as the stage lights slowly faded to black.

Reina it’s never “cheesy” to play Van no matter where you are. You all (even Toni’s last chord) do honor to an incredible musician/songwriter. I always pay particular attention to my TH-cam bells on Sunday mornings. Your new friend Sammy was incredible. It’s never more true than with musicians that like-attracts-like. You and Toni seem to always find the same amazing caliber of musicianship wherever you may roam. On a personal note: please convince (not that it’s difficult mind you) Toni to learn some more John Paul Jones bass pieces on her stand-up bass. Her bass playing is so amazing when you cover Zeppelin. Perhaps “Whole lotta love”? Just please never stop playing. You are all a small piece of joy in an “ Old Rockers” heart. Ty
