The 1st Agreement - Be Impeccable With Your Word

  • The Four Agreements, was published in 1997 and has sold around 4 million copies. It advocates personal freedom from agreements and beliefs that we have made with ourselves and others that are creating limitation and unhappiness in our lives. Ultimately, it is about finding one's own integrity, self-love, and peace within this reality. The Four Agreements go very deep, but plainly stated, they are:
    1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
    2. Don't Take Anything Personally
    3. Don't Make Assumptions
    4. Always Do Your Best

      Me too. I listen to the entire book once every year since it was written.. I've given more copies of this book as presents than any other gift (followed by life after life by Dr Raymond Moody). This book is one that has to be listened to many times and each time you will find something new, in my dozen times not once did I not come away with another new epiphany that has enriched my life :)

    I can totally relate. As a child, I overheard a neighbor comment on what an "unattractive child" I was. Another commented that I was "fat" which my mother overheard but did nothing about. I've grown up with those words in the back of my mind. The power of the WORD is strong! What a horrid thing to do to a child's self esteem!

    In the 13th chapter of Matthew Jesus told a parable of a sower & his seeds. Some went on good ground, others not. I've heard it said that the good ground represents a good, receptive mind.

    • @paulshannon7303
      @paulshannon7303 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not quite! Jesus is The Word. The good ground represents people who receive Jesus' word and understand it. They produce fruit, 30, 60 and 100 fold. It's important to realise that Jesus comes into our lives to produce the effect; it's not our word. Ruiz is a humanist (I guess) so emphasises the internal/intrinsic word of individuals. This is in strong contrast to the external Word of John's Gospel (that Ruiz mentions).

    I love Don Miguel Ruiz' teachings. I studied Tibetan Buddhism for decades and feel The books by Ruiz are essentially the same, and maybe clearer. Have begun to use them in volunteer groups for #BernieSanders2016. #seethebern TH-cam seethebern

    • @jackdawcaw4514
      @jackdawcaw4514 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The nice thing about Ruiz's work and the Toltec lineage is that they don't focus solely on meditation. Actually, neither does buddhism, but it is what people tend to focus on when they learn it, and I feel it's focused on even in the teachings. But besides the everyday life also being a meditation, there are clear parallels between the noble eightfold path and these 'agreements'; 'Right view' says look at things as they are without labels. That's basically 'don't make assumptions' and 'don't take anything personally'. Then 'Right speech' is pretty much 'be impeccable with your word', and I'm sure more parallels could be drawn.

    (light perceiving light). we are the same exact light Seeing, Hearing, and Feeling everything in this Physical Reality Through Separate Bodies, It is the same with ALL living things the Interaction between living things is NOT dissimilar to Light looking at itself through a smoky mirror. the smoke distorts the lights reflection, which makes the light's Own Reflection Unfamiliar, So the light then regards it's own reflection as a separate Entity. This is why we see One Another as a separate 'Beings' and not the same thing. OUR Physical Bodies *ARE* The 'Smoke Distortion of Our own Reflection

    I understand what is being said and It hypothesizes to how the bible had said a phase that is so powerful that if I was not open to what I hear the impeccability of the word. my own word have power that I have to understand what I say and how I say it because I will be the one who has to feel whatever I put out to other because I will always be talking about myself .

    Spell a word, cast a spell. To enjoy a good drama, one must suspend it's disbelief, in the knowing that it's false. Put no store in stories. As soon as your not a character in a story any more, you don't exist. The ego story keeps going looking for happiness. Divine love itself is a release from all stories.

    Should I discard my favorite rock songs and fiction books if reciting them is equivalent to speaking negativity into the world? Can I only write songs about love and positivity?
    How do I honestly share how I'm "feeling" today or talk about myself on a first date without reinforcing old spells?
    Is it breaking the first agreement to discuss how humans were domesticated?

    • @ICON-Studios

    This is an unbelievably wordy way to say " treat people with decency" . Something you should have learned as a child. The thought provoked by this is how there could be millions of people that need to read this to know enough to not tell children they have ugly voices. How could you need to be told that being ugly towards people is bad. What if the professor was a pervert. Was that supposed to stay a secret? Is being in the target of a sexual predator something that only exists in your own perception? Was this man a teacher? Because that was a very strange choice of example. That question was the seed he just planted.

    People obviously work on very different levels of reality. To some people this simple book seems to help them and have them answers to life and comfort. To me it's just a simple book with no wisdom or clever lessons. It just states common sense. It hasn't changed my life at all lol. If this pamphlet can change lives then i suspect those lives and minds were pretty vacant to start with.

    A Sin is not 'going against yourself' as Ruiz states; it's 'going against' God! Jesus said,
    'And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire'. (Matt 18:8)

      Paul Shannon A sin against God is also a sin against yourself. God laws and standards are how we are supposed to live but by sinning we ultimately hurt ourselves more than anyone else, that’s why we get grow old, get sick and die.
      It is written “Through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin so that death spread to all men for they all sinned”
