    Googled. Your video was first. Saved me so much time and round 590 dollars at shop. Did it myself. And had zero issues. Thank you so much

    Thanks for taking the time to do this and sharing your knowledge. I winced a couple of times when you hurt yourself! I wish you'd have worn some gloves but I never did when I was younger either.
    Keep it up buddy, its people like you who go far in life.

    Great explanation! Note: if no slide hammer available, install rotor inversely with all 5 lug nuts capturing at least 5 threads. Use washers if available to protect 'acorn' face of lug nut. Duplicate slide hammer motion by holding rotor and pulling sharply.Note : You have cosmetic lug nuts and they can be applied only one way. If not cosmetic, they can be applied 'flat' side to rotor ( or slide hammer) as Roosa suggested above. Well done!

    OK, I had a major confusion problem. I'm looking at a 1999 Grand Cherokee listed locally and checking videos on the difficulty or ease of doing repairs. So, the first video I saw was a guy working on a 1997 Grand Cherokee. I saw your video listed so I figured I'd see if there was anything else I might need to know. Then you hammered out your rear axle instead of removing the differential cover and taking out the "C" clips. I did some hasty research and come to find out that in 1998 Jeep switched from the ZJ to the WJ - a completely redesigned axle. Also a better Jeep from what I've read. I post this in case anyone else starts hammering on their ZJ and can't figure out why the axle isn't coming out. Or they're looking for "C" clips in a WJ.

    Use a touch of never-seize on your hub assemble to brake rotor .

    Very cool, I'm sure most of this info applies to a lot of vehicles as well.
    btw my dad always taught me to take the lug nuts off and put them on by unscrewing one side at a time instead of just going around in a circle. I think this helps evenly distribute the pressure a bit better and make it fit better. Hope it helps you.

    I'm officially confused after my youtube research. I'm trying to figure out if I have c clip retainers for the rear axle shafts of my 2000 Cherokee Laredo with a 4.0. I see that some have a circle opening in the hub/lug area for removal of the bolt on retainer/back plate that holds the shafts in place. "They" designate that as a non c clip rear end. "They" also say that if there is no circle hub opening that you do have c clips. I see you with no hole and no c clips. What shafts do I order? ...this is my first Jeep, I do know how to wrench, I just want to know if I'm taking out the pumpkin cover or not and what parts to order.

    It's important to note that you should NOT reuse the four nuts holding the shaft and seals to the axle. Even cleaning the nuts, using locktite can still allow the four nuts to vibrate loose. The nuts are inexpensive through after market like Dorman. The nuts have been discontinued according to Jeep. So for the few extra dollars it costs do NOT reuse the retainer nuts. On the new nuts and retainer bolts it's a good idea to use the locktite.

    i did this on both sides and when i got it all back together. i have a leak on the right rear axel. we are certain we did this correctly. any ideas why it would be leaking? we used new seals and the best bearings you can buy.

    • @FlyByTire
      @FlyByTire  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you used mopar seals I'm not sure why it would be leaking. I did mine the first time with seals and bearings from car quest and it leaked. Did you have the ring pressed on correctly? Did you tighten everything to spec?

    • @davidcarnahan1213
      @davidcarnahan1213 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      YouWrasse IsMine you could have a bent axle causing the bearing and seal to create angle at the race

    great video my question is do u recommend changing both sides or just 1 side my passenger rear fell off with the rotor so that's done broke off and everything. second question what's that tool called to get the axle out

    • @FlyByTire
      @FlyByTire  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend do doing them both at once, I would also recommend using mopar seals and bearings. The tool is a slide hammer.

    • @cammims7645
      @cammims7645 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If u look at my last video I just made called I bought a jeep for $400 I show what the wheel looks like but it would make more sense to pull the full axle from a junkyard rather then buying new from Autozone ? Full axle at the junkyard is $105. New Axle at Autozone is $200 not including all the stuff you need. Should I replace the rear diff too? Like pull that 1 from the Junkyard too? It is making some kind of wierd grinding noise only for a couple seconds then it stops from under the car obviously I can't find out till I get a tire on to go get it check out what cha think ? That's a pic of my messed up part that fail off with the wheel.

    • @FlyByTire
      @FlyByTire  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can get the whole rear axle/diff from the junkyard for $105 then I would just replace the whole thing. After all you have 230k miles in it. Try not to get a high mileage axle though.

    • @cammims7645

      Replace then add fluid? or let the shop do that?

    • @FlyByTire
      @FlyByTire  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to put gear oil in it before you drive it. If you have a shop change it they should add fluid, just ask if they did.

    No need removed clip inside differencial ? Jeep grand cherokee laredo 2004

    • @rustyjeep2469
      @rustyjeep2469 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Omar Vazquez The axle in these Jeeps doesn't use a c-clip, it's retained by a bearing plate with 4 nuts on the back side of the brake backing plate. At least on the V8 WJ Grand Cherokee anyway, not sure on the six cylinder but I believe those are the same.

    So is the axle one piece? Or two? Great job you look so young, to have all this talent

    • @MuddBall-yo4kf
      @MuddBall-yo4kf 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The axle shaft itself is one piece. The bearing, seal and retaining rings are pressed onto the axle shaft and held in place by a plate that bolts to the axle tube.

    • @FlyByTire
      @FlyByTire  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not all WJ Jeeps have the same rear axle. The Jeep in this video has a DANA 44 in the rear and a DANA 30 in the front.
