Thank you so much for these moments forever captured in time. You give me the gift of perspective & nostalgia. Most of all you inspire in me a renewed appreciation of the present, making me realize that these too are precious moments that are passing away. Much love and gratitude from Toronto 🇨🇦 🤗
1:04 DID YOU KNOW THAT… Alas, the camera pans away and we’ll never know what we didn’t know! How can we live so cavalier a carefree life without knowing what we don’t know in 1976? The tragedy! 😂
No one was worried about a thing then....I was there!......lots of friendly people talking and laughing together.....no barricades or massive police presence needed. No performers either.
Love all the decor and how there were a couple people and friends blowing the new years whistle laughing and this video taken in 1976 looks VERY exciting, especially at the end with a clip from theme song for the Exorcist borrowed for the New Years Eve celebration and the laser effect coupled with a fast laser like sound effect back then at this 1976 New Years Eve celebration ALL adding to the exciting energy and vibe in New York City then! I could feel this excitement just watching this! Back then, I was a 4 year old toddler living in Connecticut with a set of foster parents then. I believe it is possible that I as a toddler and the foster parents could of attended this VERY exciting celebration here. I do have a memory from back in toddler hood riding with foster parents by a large city with a river by the large city as the skyscrapers were all lit up at night seeing the reflections off the water while riding. That is a reason why I feel this memory could of been either going to this celebration or returning from celebration back to Connecticut if foster parents and I did go to this way back then. How exciting it would of been if in this video that I saw myself as a toddler with the foster parents which if this would show up and possibly could on a future, then that would prove THAT I DID go to this as opposed to just a possibility! I would then be watching myself and the foster family i was with from almost 50 years ago when I was a toddler via these videos! How AWESOME that would be! Thanks again for an AWESOME video!
Proof/Backing Claim: The "Lucky Lady" promo sign(1:21-1:25) which was freshly released on Christmas Day 1975 and it would make sense for it to be promoted around that time instead of a whole year later. Also, it was raining during the 1975-1976 New Year's transition in NY accordingly. The umbrellas help support that fact.
Got chills watching this one. Most of those people might be in their 80s and 90s by now if they’re even still alive. And the Exorcist music to go along with it 😢 Just creepy.
I remember we would watch WBNS-10TV Columbus OH (CBS affiliate) to see the ball drop, to the accompaniment of "Auld Lang Syne" as played by Guy Lombardo and his Drunken Canadians (well, that's what we called them anyway :)). Sounds like Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells intro in the background, which was partially used for The Exorcist. Love that album and the 2003 remake.
Over the decades, New York has gone from seedy, to Disney World, to "Seedy Disney World." It's a pattern that forecasts what New York will look like for many New Year's Eves to come. Speaking of which, in the series of Times Square balls, 1976-1977 was on its third ball. In 2024, we're on our fifth ball. But this is the last year for it. 2025 will be a changing year for, if nothing else, New Year's Eve.
@luckyotter623 I think it's 1975 going into 1976 because of the "Lucky Lady" promo sign(1:21-1:25) which was freshly released on Christmas Day 1975 and it would make sense for it to be promoted around that time instead of a whole year later.
@daved1535 Yeah, it makes it look like that. A lot of people always don't make it clear which year is on the New Year's Eve part and which year is on New Year's Day part. They like to mix up the two without emphasizing on it. Pretty strange when that happens.
@KingOfCharlotteNC You are correct. It is 1975 to 76. In the video, you can see everyone with umbrellas. I looked it up. On New Years 75 into 76, it was raining pretty hard, and in 76 into 77, it was just really cold
Always a good relief. Thanks for uploading all these great videos from the past. Yes! Freedom! No cell phones. Life without the internet. Anything without smart phones and social media was a better life. Seeing the former world without those things. Just the basic times.

Thank You for the Uploads! RETRO FOREVER!🤘🏻👍🏻🇺🇲
Thank you for the best memories of those past years

Exorcist music? We've been thinking about doomsday a long time apparently.
Okay you win 🏆 best comment 😊
It was a popular song that actually got radio play back then!
Lol there's no doomsday
I heard it while watching an adult movie from the 70's lol I couldn't believe it.
@@gator9339 oh man!
This was a few months before the "Son of Sam" panic gripped New York City in the Summer of 1977.

So cool and surreal to see life in a world where I didn't even exist, yet still feel familliar with
I was 4 years old during this. I don't remember this New Years, but I do remember the bi centennial 4th of July in 1976 back in Western Ny State
I was in mom's belly during this lol born June '77
I was 10
I was only 3 years old at that time. I love watching the ball drop. Cheers from northeast Ohio!
Damn I wish we would be automatically taken back to 1976 as soon as it hit midnight 2025.

1:56 That transition to the next scene though
THANK You 🫶
Wow I was just born ten days before this day 🎉
Awesome ❤
Love these old videos!
This one goes way back
Very cool
That disco music says it all. 😆💯🔥
CLARIFICATION FOR EVERYONE: This was Wednesday December 31st 1975 transitioning to Thursday January 1st 1976!
Proof/Backing Claim: The "Lucky Lady" promo sign(1:21-1:25) which was freshly released on Christmas Day 1975 and it would make sense for it to be promoted around that time instead of a whole year later.

Where do you find these historic footages?

Back before NYC got Disneyfied. I say bring back the adult theaters, lol.
🤔 I don't remember, probably because I was 2 years old 😂🎉🎇🪩🍾
I was negative 13. 😐
Year I was born ❤️
Tubular bells in Time Square

Would love to see some new years stuff back in 1999!

🎉🎉🎉🎉 Happy New Year 🎊🎊🕛
I can smell the exhaust fumes and cig smoke in this video.
Okay, child.
Better times! Sux that most of these people are gone or very old.
Meanwhile I'm 6 months old one state over. 😅
cool!
1975 going into 1976 or 1976 going into 1977?
I believe it's 1976 going into 1977
@luckyotter623 I think it's 1975 going into 1976 because of the "Lucky Lady" promo sign(1:21-1:25) which was freshly released on Christmas Day 1975 and it would make sense for it to be promoted around that time instead of a whole year later.
@KingOfCharlotteNC The title makes it look like it's 1976 going into 1977. It says "waiting for the ball to drop in 1976"
@daved1535 Yeah, it makes it look like that. A lot of people always don't make it clear which year is on the New Year's Eve part and which year is on New Year's Day part. They like to mix up the two without emphasizing on it. Pretty strange when that happens.

I was developing in my mom's belly during this!

I miss it.
@ChristopherSobieniak Here we are today where technology took everybody in.
That looks like Party City 🥳 🎉 😔 🪦
It's only 5 more months until you can watch Star Wars.
😂
Dammit you beat me to it!!!
@Anarchist86ed It was actually a year and 5 months later. This is 1975, going into 1976
Looks a lot cleaner than modern day ny
Trust me, it wasn't. I lived there at the time. It was pretty filthy! And a lot more dangerous, believe it or not.
I think it was around the time Mayor Giuliani took over in the late 90s or early 2000s when the city cleaned up a lot
😊😊😊
1:57 WTF
Carter dead today 🇺🇸🪦
Who cares .
RIP, Jimmy Carter 😢
Very ignorant of you @@bulkhungry
He made it to 100. That's amazing.😢 🕊️
He was about to get sworn in as president just days after this video was made
