I think there are videos of hot and cold water being poured and you can tell which one is which. I was pretty sceptical when I first heard about this though!
When I am running the tap to get extra cold water I do it by sound cos the sound changes when the cold gets colder, also a different musical note, and that's probably only a 5 or 10 degree difference
fun fact: since there's a viscosity difference between hot and cold water, it is theoretically possible to determine the temparature just from the sound alone
It's not theoretical, it's been studied that people can pick it out. I prove this ability in my kitchen every day when I turn the faucet on and wait for it to sound hot. Gotta learn what "theoretical" means

When I am running the tap to get extra cold water I do it by sound cos the sound changes when the cold gets colder, also a different musical note, and that's probably only a 5 or 10 degree difference

It's simply because pressure and temperature are inversely proportional so lower temperature means higher pressure and vice versa, therefore the higher the pressure is, the more molecules of water there are in the same volume and the more molecules of water in that same volume are slowing down the ball at once
