I'm pretty sure the village thing has no microtransactions connected to it. You can get more villagers by streetpassing or connecting to the internet once a day. Its pretty useful it gives the red hat guy you see in dungeons more to sell and rewards you with free items. Also its tied to upgrading your special moves.

My favorite 3DS games was Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. I would recommend it but it would destroy Cvit's hands.
I'm sorry but the 3ds is a wonderful console. The xl veesion fixed many issues I had with the original.
The true ending of this game is simultaneously the most insane and emotional thing ever. I love everything about this game so much. Glad to see it get love

I love bravely default and second, but I warn people to brace themselves for bravely defaults "second half" it makes hard for me, even a lover to replay it.

Octopath Traveler actually allowed me to discover this series and with the announcement of a new Bravely Switch title, I'll probably play both 3DS games!
Both games I consider better than Octopath. Not that Octopath is a bad game, rather the series is at the pinnacle of the genre imo.

@Samuele Zaninello I don’t agree there personally. Mainly because story and gameplay go hand in hand. Honestly I see Octopath suffering a lot more from Second’s issues, just everyone gets hung up on the repeating bosses, not realizing that they even change up those fights just to really show how flexible the game’s job and combat systems are.
@@rezahydra i didn't bash BD and second for the combat mechanics and job system, in fact they are top tier, but Octopath way of handling it is just way too good in my opinion, because of the break system, which made having a balanced party way more important (I admit my ignorance about cheese strats in Octo, except for maybe step siding merchants, but in BD that jump combo was just able to auto any boss battle, save from one in chapter 8 (vamp and sage I think))
@Samuele Zaninello BD, BS and Octo all have a ton of infinite combos lol, and yeah some are for specific things but hey. Personally though, the reason I do see Octo’s as worse isn’t because of the combat, rather to 100% the game minus bestiary is as tedious as it is in Second. Primarily because of the somewhat slightly slower movement in comparison and the shrine side quest that’s honestly worse than anything else Team Asano have done. Honestly it’s something I would’ve expected to see in FF Tactics just before they went to Default. Don’t get me wrong, all three are amazing and outstanding games, but I just see Default as better personally, and even if you don’t agree, I just hope you can see why.
One thing people forget to mention is that you can actually break the crystals and end the game prematurely.

first:the bad end is infinitly better writingwise AND is a better payoff than the true ending
second:it is not beyond chapter5, it can already be done in chapter5(chapter5 was the first one in another world, right?). the quickest way of ending the game is to actually rush to eternia and throw an elixir onto that boss with bravely second(BS removes the damagecap)
Hell Yes! This Game does not get nearly enough attention! I think the game can get repetitive during the late game. but that ending was the best! I remember the whole crew fondly.
Also, Edea Lee is my favorite of the group.

Just to give a bit of correction here, the village in BD and the moonbase in BS aren't gatcha based at all, you get villagers/workers just by being connected to the internet and updating your street pass, or by passing other people with the game on the street. My friends and I would make express use of this during school as we all had the game. Aside from that though, I love the video, and you have certainly made me want to go back and replay both games.

Glad to see people still talking about my favorite RPG of all time. It took a little while for the game to grow on me, but as I played, I absolutely fell in love with the battle system, characters, and the soundtrack. The story I would say overall for Bravely Default is average. The spoilered part you touched on was definitely a slog for me to get through, but after I realized that I could just fight the 4 main bosses right away instead of having to do the asterisk fights in addition to those made it much more bearable.

I think Halo Reach changes the way it’s menu looks as the game progresses through the story to. Though considering the fact that game goes from level to level without returning to the menu I won’t deny this feature was lost on me at first. But if you exit a mission and return to the campaign menu you’ll see that the background art actually changes to reflect the mission you that you were on.
I believe the mission of New Alexandria (the one where you fly around the skies of a ruined city) is the only one I actually seen and can remember from the top of my head but it’s really gorgeous & colorful despite the rather bleak context behind it.
Bravely Default is the best Final Fantasy game in a long time.

This game is super fun but I despise the last 4 chapters dragging out, had to grind everyone up to level 99 in the end to actually beat the game.

I get what they went for,but it was just so bad...you had very little diffrence in each "dimension" for the side characters that it hardly mattered and I just stopped caring.
I actually ended up quitting because it got super repetitive. I don't know who had the bright idea of basically beating the game 5 times, but it was too much.
Also because i'm a completionist in these types of games, i couldn't just go to the straight the crystal bosses. You get new stuff if you refight the people who give your jobs and having to fight each one individually, it just got too repetitive.

After learning the director of Steins;Gate was the one for this game, made me instantly interested . Also “game menu changes along the way” sounds like such a Steins;G which I love
Spike and Cassandra's performance in this game is stellar.
I need to finish this game; Honestly I just wanted to tackle the Class Bosses first before reactivating the Gems, but some of them are pretty tough...and the dragons for the castle...holy cow...
I get that, if you don't hold it right it can be a real pain, I like to hold it up while I lay on my back though.
And yes, the speakers can be pretty not nice, but I've never felt the need to use headphones.
overall I think the 3DS is pretty nice, I personally like the 3D alot, but most people don't seem to like it.
A switch port would probably be what would convince me to finally play this, so hopefully its a duel remaster with 1 and 2 in one game.
Bryce's most memorable role to me is as Zidane (Final Fantasy IX) in the Dissidia Final Fantasy games.
Let's all take a moment to remember how good Serpent Eating the Ground was, still one of my favorite final boss themes in gaming history, right next to God Slaying Sword from Xenoblade Chronicles.

i never got the chance on playing this game on my 3DS
I have noticed on the web some players whom gave up after Chapter 5 because of the repetitive scenario. But speaking for myself, it's definitely worth finishing it all without the false ending because Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 are full of plit twist and numerous challenges perfect for grinding and gaining huge amounts of JP and EXP, especially with the paired use of Growth Ring and JP Plus and EXP Plus Abilities.
This game was incredible. I was unsure at first but when I noticed it was using the good old turn by turn, world map and random encouter system of the earlier FF games and Golden Sun, I wouldn't let go of it until I finished it.

Dude! I'm glad this game is getting some recognition. And you hit the nail on the head about the 3rd act, that shit killed me, legitimately the only bad part about Default.
I'm currently at the point in the game where I'm very close to reawakening the fire crystal. When's the last third you speak of start?`Am I already in the spoiler zone, or ist thaat aafter where I'm currently at? Don't wanna spoil myself.
There is a Bravely Gatcha game as well I believe. I don't know if it's out in America though.

I beat the game when it was release and didn't find it very satisfying. For the first loop, I played it very conservative where I'd only brave or default if I had to. Which made enemy encounters a drag, I was treating it like any other rpg where you save the more powerful stuff like those techniques till harder encounters.
After I got over that, I found out ways to quickly level and mass level my chars, and it felt lime many boss encounters, especially the optional castle gauntlet later in the game, were based around exploiting the combat system instead of legitimately working with it. Anyone who did the Fire Magic fight during the gauntlet will know exactly what I am talking about.
Even maxed out, because I became so complacent on using underhanded and exploitative tactics to win.. I still had trouble with a few fights, specifically the final boss.
Though this could be because once again I played either too conservatively, or too old fashioned like found in older RPGs that I still hold fondly and play through regularly.

There was a glitch tho to get more villagers. Sadly they removed that from second, which was a pain in the ass, because you couldn't get the cool moves in ghe time you wanted to have them...
My absolute favorite game series
I want to play the original BD as I wait for II which I already have pre ordered but I really don't want to play it on my 2ds now that I'm extremely comfortable with it. It would be really nice if they did switch ports but it wouldn't happen yet since they're working on BDII, maybe later on if we request enough it'll happen
The keyblade war was focused on in Birth By Sleep, which was the second best KH game behind 2
Story wise meybe. I prefer Aqua over Soras as my playable main character but I enjoyed the gameplay of KH 1 a lot more.

I’ve always wanted to play this game
I can never fully pick which I prefer between Default and Second. I think Second not having the same big flaw Default had is a huge plus for it, but the chemistry between the main group isn't quite up to Defaults standard which overall has me less invested... Man I just love these games, if Third (or even HD remasters) come to the Switch I'm going to have to buy the console for them.
The reason I'm not bothered by the last 3rd of the game is all the characterization you get for the villains. All of them have alternate dialogue or different scenarios entirely, many changing for every single chapter. Those chapters are only cumbersome if you skip the side quests. The villains are fantastic in both Bravely games
i like how most jrpgs be they originals like alliance alive or the ff remasters took the battle speed option from bd.
I didn't know this game's story has a timeloop. Something that had been in Go Nagai's Devilman and Neon Genesis Evangelion. I see, why Square Enix has themes about death and rebirth underneath it it camp astethic. There was a reason why the word Enix is a short word for phoenix. Pun intended!

Bravely default has a great cast
My first playthrough took 90 hours to complete. I was going through some shit and spent a LOT of time exploring the worlds and various mini stories. If you have a health or depression issue this game is phenomenal to immerse yourself into. Second run through was 10 hrs because i was stupidly overleveled.

Both of these games are fucking amazing.
I suggest going to the doctors about your wrists. I played though all of breath of the wild with the switch in handheld mode and I played smash 4 on 3ds for months with no issue whatsoever, same with a lot of my friends and that's how we are all playing monster hunter as well. You're right about the 3ds's speaker but if you get some decent headphones that'll sort that right out
As for the game I have some mixed feeling about it. I found the story very iffy (not just the last 3rd) and predictable. The game play was also on and off for me, I love the different classes but hated the fact that they were drip feed to you throught the game one at a time. This and the fact you have to level up the jobs seperatly for each character meant that a lot of the late game jobs were useless unless you did a lot of grinding. I also didn't like how most of the bosses die when defeated, they had some really cool designs and personalities and I feel like they could have easily made a better 3rd act of the story if they kept the bosses around instead of writing themselves into a corner. Also the rebuild village thing and buyable drinks for battle could have been left out and the game wouldn't suffer for it.
All that being said I still think the game is great and a must play for any Jrpg fan. The battle system is awesome, the music is great, the artwork work are stupidly beautiful (I imported the Japanese art book years ago). If you want more of this game I would also recommend Final Fantasy The 4 Heros of Light for the Nds. It was made by the same director and has the same artistic flare to the design (the Bravely default artbook also has art from this game in it too).
I havent played bravely second yet though I know I really should.
Last thing, when you said you felt that this game started the new jrpg renaissance (can't find the exact quote), you were a lot more on the nail than I think you know. The heads at SquareEnix didnt think the game would sell at all and were shocked when it sold so well, that and what happened with FF14 made them them realise the fucked up bad with ff13 and change a lot of how they started building games and we are now seeing the fruits of that labor.

I guess I wasn't properly leveled because I barely made it pass the second loop and couldn't grind hard enough to catch up. I enjoyed the game but never finished it.
I love both BD and it's sequel. I'm not sure I'd say they are my favorite game on the system, but I do love them. Second is probably better, but I like Ringabelle better then Yue or Magnolia, so I may prefer BD just on that.

I tried twice now to finish this game, but for some reason, whenever I get to the part where there's a war going on, I just lose interest. No idea why. I love the game and it's so pretty and fun, but I just can't get through it. . .

Honestly, I LOVED the time skip section because we got SO many different character interactions between the side bosses, like Holly and Cigma, eventually leading up to that massive gauntlet at the end. I also ADORE when JRPG's have very rich and defined character classes that feel like they all are meant to work together and cover eachother's weaknesses, Kinda like how 7th dragon III did.
My 2nd favorite 3ds RPG after Radiant Historia.
